Yankee Candles TSV 15/5/14

I really wish I could burn these - they do have wonderful scents - but they, and other non-soy wax cause an allergic reaction for me. I have to be content with digging out wax from the limited soy candles I can get my hands and putting them in silicone or foil cases in my electric burner (I don't trust myself with candles - I'm BOUND to burn the house down!)

I'm looked at in amazement whenever I admit this. I also get scoffed at by some members of my family when I refuse to mow the lawn or paint the house (I honestly cannot even breathe if I drive past a verge that's recently been mowed). I taped Watchdog last night as it had a woman on who is allergic to some make-up and paint - I felt so sorry for her, but a result for me sort of. I don't react like she did (well, I do, but we can't pin down what's causing it), I just can't breathe. Plus I have rhinitis, but not hay fever.

Anyone else here have an allergy to candles/air fresheners/some cleaning products/skin creams? Or am I just strange?

Gosh AE you have a hard time of it. I thought I was bad but nothing like poor you.

One of the many things which can spark me off is changing rooms (not all the time) so I wondered if it was the "dressing" they out on fabrics, you know how once they are washed they are not quite so crisp. I could scratch the skin off, from top to toe sometimes after a day in and out of changing rooms. Maybe Q should add this to their list of anti DHS spiel.

I am even allergic to anti allergy tablets!

Your definitely not strange but I know what it's like the way some people react to others that have allergies sometimes thinking the person is making it all up or that it's not important and you should just suck it up and get on! I have had many reactions to air fresheners and I have to be very careful with cleaning products, a couple of years ago I was cleaning my bathroom it was just before Xmas and I was on my own and started to have a very bad asthma attack as I had used a little too much cleaning product, I only just got to my inhaler in the next room I really didn't think I'd make it but I luckily did, I then had to get a taxi and go to my Dr's practice for treatment as there was no way I could drive myself, my Dr was a little annoyed at me as she wanted me to go to hospital but I really didn't want to. I have to be careful of certain flowers and perfumes, I also have food allergies, it is strange but it seems people who have allergies tend to have a few and when others don't suffer with any they just can't understand! I have a dairy (not lactose) allergy since birth but my mum will still dish up something like mash potato loaded with butter after more than 40 years! Your not alone!

Thank you, Both.

It is awful when your nearest and dearest don't believe how ill you are/feel. I'm afraid to keep going to the doc as if family think I'm making it up, what will they think? Though I have been referred to an immunologist - but only because I did physically react (it's been getting more frequent over the last two years, but I managed to make it to the dr in time to show her this time). The reactions that others can't see are the worst.

I'm so fed up with being called a lazy slacker as I won't mow lawn/paint house/use chemical cleaners (thank God for microfibre cloths and disposable wipes - even though I feel guilty using the latter. At least they don't get into my mouth, throat and lungs like liquids and creams). Even using the vacuum causes problems, though the G-Tech and Dyson handheld are great - as long as I don't have to empty them. It must be a dust thing...

What treatment have you each been offered, do you mind me asking?

ETA: sorry for the hijack!

As these new shape melts do appear to be easier to remove, with the addition of the teflon, why would Yankee continue to make 'normal' melts? Surely, if the jar shaped melts are more efficient and practical, they will make all of the melts in the same way, or we will feel we are getting an inferior product? Why has it taken them so long to realise that, by adding teflon, we get an improved product? My guess would be that they will still be churning out the old style melts for quite a while yet, as 1. a backlog of stock to get rid of, and 2. customer reaction to new shape/product.

I took from what was said on the launch that they were still in a trial stage as they are only in USA at the mo and are special for Q (yer right lol!), my guess would be that they are possibly seeing if they are as good as they think and testing public opinion in the USA before changing to them, reading a bit between the lines, I'm sure Rosa said something to this effect that they're are still in the testing process it may be she was asked not you repeat it as I didn't hear it on other hours and you be honest didn't come over to well 'they are still in the testing phase' lol!

Pretty unimpressive by CS then! Q should have dates and fragrances showing on their system. Obviously information relevant to your order is not something they consider important!

It seems I'll get the same fragrances, the UK ones, but it starts when I ordered so 90 days from May, I've already received the first set :mysmilie_14: next will be August which means they will fall out of season but I understand Q would struggle to sort their system as all their systems seem very inflexible and hard to change. Lol I get the Xmas ones in February!! Let's hope they don't mess up and run out!

Glad you got the information from them.

Sounds to me like the perfect excuse to buy an extra set of Xmas candles in December!!!
