I agree. She's got a lovely face and lovely hair but somehow the two don't compliment each other IYKWIM.

It looked loads better last night, much less like she's time travelling and off to Glastonbury in the 1970s. I bet the hairdresser who styled it for her last night was itching to get the scissors out.

I really do not get why some women stick like hell to the long hair look they have had since they were 12
my sister in law is the same, and she is now 56! I so wish she would have her hair cut too, and I agree, JH would look so much better

hmmm, i think possibly because a lot of women do look better with long hair. you can't go suddenly short to long like you can long to short so the difference isn't so immediately apparent. jmho

She has quite thin, straight hair and a wide face. I don't think it would good if it was shorter than shoulder length but that would probably be an improvement
I think older women look witchified with long hair and J.R. is a prime example. I had hair like Jilly in my teens in the late fifties and early sixties but justbefore I got married (at 20) I had it chopped off and I mean that literally as I worked as a sewing machinist at the time and I just said to the girl sitting behind me will you cut my hair and she leaned over and with pair of huge scissors she cut my pony tail off. Needless to say at lunch time she trimmed and styles it into a bob and I never regretted it.

Most of the women I work with who are over 40 think its the law to have a short back and sides at that age and that make up is the devils own work! Ive got just past shoulder lenght hair in good condition and said I was off for a trim one day to which one of these snorted "not getting it all cut off then?" Err no I dont want to look like a middle aged man thanks.Jilly has such fine hair that barr getting it cut to her shoulders I cant imagine what she could do with it. She could curl it or up-do it more often I suppose.

I'm over 40 (well over) with fine hair but I don't have my hair in a masculine style. I think a nice feminine layered cut which frames the face with some highlights to give the illusion of body and texture, can takes years off a woman. There's nothing worse than the lank 'curtains' look on a more mature woman (imho of course).

Agree Bensmum its up to the individual to do as they see fit. I just think short hair can be as ageing as long with some styles being either just a functional crop or over styled, coiffured old fashioned "dos" which certaainly do not knock the years off.

Jilly's hair looked really nice,agree that too long hair doesn't suit everyone,but neither does too short hair.Cordelia the qvc model has an awful hairstyle, playmobile.

Totally agree. I have always had shoulder length hair throughout my life, and yes it can exaggerate a haggard and witchy look to the face - but you can look haggard in your 30's. The choice is mine, I wear it up, down and even in bunches !!!!! which DOES take years off me.
On the reverse point of view, I always smile when I go to crafting events and fairs, and its an eye opener to see midde aged ladies (younger than me) with all the same or similar short haircut, generally wearing glasses and mostly on the plump side. My friend couldn't believe it when I pointed this phenomenon out, that the majority of 'crafting women' look the same - very mumsy. So to buck the trend and have longer hair is quite courageous.
I think Gilly and her very round face would look like Ann Dawson did a few years ago with short straight hair, ****** awful, and I thought the curls were sensational on her.

Oh yes I couldn't agree more Bauble. Too short is too severe for anyone over the age of about 25 and a shampoo and set style is very old fashioned. There is a hairdresser in the village near where I live and everyone comes out of there with exactly the same style, like her own hairstyle. She has the old hair dryers that you sit with your head inside with curlers in. I must add that I don't go there to have mine done!!
My mother-in-law & her cronies always looked like the Queen lol.
My sister-in-law (the brown rice & sandals one) wears curtains & always has. When she was in her 20s it was lush, bouncy, vibrant ..... alive.
Now, with it's wider centre parting, it looks what it is, old hair.

A lot of her identity is her long hair, that's her remarkable feature, for a long time. She and model, Goody could make more of an effort to have more variety eg: EnglishBraid, DutchBraid, FrenchBraid, HerringbonePlait, pulled to one side, updo, curly, half-up/half-down. In Goody's case, her hair PullToTheFront&FlickToTheBack&Again! is distracting/annoying. Then again, another supplier of wigs would be nice. She could model them.
