Aaaargh. The resident beauty expert and Abi Cleever are on live. TV off immediately, I’m not a masochist

Git, had to take a look to see what you meant.

Now I am concerned that even having a computer will age me. Think I best just live in a dark damp hovel with no windows and never venture outside.

Thank you, Donna. Asthma runs in our family and I remember being woken up several times when I was a child because one or other of us had to be rushed to hospital, so I know I took a risk but so far it has paid off for me.
My nan had asthma and sulphur was a trigger, she couldn't eat eggs or even be in the same room if there was a boiled egg there.
I get asthma with sulphur but not eggs ,diesel,I can sniff red diesel users, hubby says VAT inspectors should employ me.😁

There’s a documentary on Channel 4 on 4th March. “Skinny jab scandal”.
Starring all the presenters on QVC perhaps? I saw Katie Pemberton today and she's another one that looks like she's lost a pile of weight. I know people could have lost it by dieting and exercise, but everyone?

I saw Sharon Osborne on TV very recently and she didn't look at all well. That should put anyone off heading down that route. I felt really sorry for her and I hope she's OK. Yes she's very slim but she has aged by years in her face.

When this drug first came to the market as a new panacea for weight loss, I knew it would quickly be used by people for vanity. Yes, maybe it helps the dangerously obese, but it's quickly been picked up by people who don't clinically need it.

I think "celebs" are all using this jab now. I saw a pic of Ariana Grande recently, and at the best of times, she looked kind of anorexic, and the pic I saw, she looked skeletal. And yes, same with Sharon Osborne. I read that Sharon has now come out and said she regrets ever having it.

The thought occurred to me that people with eating disorders are now using (abusing) this drug. In the US, especially the Hollywood crowd, if you find the right doctor and pay enough, the will over-ride ethics and prescribe what you want. Scary.

I also saw Ariana Grande and was shocked by how thin she is, she was tiny before but now......i'm surprised no one has stepped in with her. Sharon said she regrets using it, but why keep on using it? It definitely done her no favours! There are so many out there now using and over using these drugs it's like a pandemic.

I think Funkinheel has got it spot on that people (especially young people) who have or may be susceptible to eating disorders will get their hands on this drug with disastrous results. Young girls especially will see all these film stars/pop stars/celebs and want to be like them. Imagine what it's like working with a group of women who are all taking this stuff and are now super thin and you're not. Even if you're a normal weight you're going to feel big. The whole thing needs better regulated or eventually someone will become hospitalised or worse.

Suddenly reminded of the novel by Jacqueline Susann, The Valley of the Dolls…
Nothing really changes…?

there were some pictures of the SAG awards and comments about the ridiculously thin actresses with the overuse of the drug.

We watch 24 hours in A&E and a young girl was there
as she was anorexic and they got her help and a counsellor and she point blank refused the help. Her mother was upset with her and begged her to eat the food the dietician brought her but she refused and threw it away. They were talking about getting Mental health services involved and she said she wouldn't go even if they made her an appointment.

For chronic health conditions such as we understand Ali Y has (and Simon and Julia) I can't imagine how they keep tabs on any significant changes in the condition or conditions they have.
It seems to me the NHS is a victim of massive scope creep. No wonder so many health care trusts are permanently teetering on the brink of financial crisis.
There has been a wilful neglect of fundamentals: ensuring a steady stream of new GPs, as the doctors recruited from around the Commonwealth all joined at a similar time so have reached retirement at broadly the same time... similarly there is a problem with pharmacists at a time when one of the tactics to relieve pressure on the NHS is to turn more and more to pharmacists.
Pharmacy staff are increasingly under attack in a similar way to staff in the paramedic, ambulance and A&E services.
More and more new treatments become available each year, often at huge cost.
At some point they need to reassess what is within the "free at the point of delivery" offer, and how the remainder will be funded.
I'd hate to see a full-scale collapse of the NHS, but if successive governments continue to shirk the difficult decisions, I fear that's what's ahead of us. That could open the door for the corporate profiteering which makes US healthcare so horrifying and heartless.
Throwing money at it clearly isn't the simple solution as Tony Blair and Gordon Brown pumped incredible amounts of money into it and didn't turn it around.
As much as we all can, we need to advocate for ourselves. We need to be terrier-like in pursuing tests to get the correct diagnosis and treatment.
And get that treatment before we develop the dreaded co-morbidities that ramp up the cost of treating patients.
Prevention and early intervention could slash the costs, yet nothing is invested in either area.
Absolutely spot-on. I’ve kept a copy, hope you don’t mind.

Diabetic, if I recall correctly.
Type 1 diabetic. Nasty.

My take on the NHS is that it will struggle without changes and extra funds pumped into it where actually needed. As a country we need to discuss and agree how it is to be funded going forwards.

The issues as I see it are -
1) We are living longer generally, so even if fairly healthy we will need more support
2) Treatments/drugs are growing in scope and cost
3) The range of illnesses that we can diagnose and treat is growing
4) The population is growing, though the precentage of those working and paying tax is reducing

Think there needs to be shift towards educating ourselves too, for those illnesses affected by our choices in life.

Years ago some mild illnesses were dealt with at home using common sense plus home remedies or over the counter remedies. Seems to me that many of the younger generation assume that the NHS is there for them or their kids everytime they get a sniffle or an upset stomach.
Absolutely agree. When we were kids in the 1960’s Mum had a big first aid box and she treated all the usual family ailments. I honestly cannot remember anyone having to go to A&E (casualty) and rarely to the gp.

Shocking and desperately sad that a young woman with a serious mental illness does not realise she has a problem and so refuses help. It sounds like the next step would be sectioning. I hope she can be helped.

Unfortunately untreated eating disorders are always high risk for a tragic outcome.

I think modern life and especially social media have been catastrophic for younger generations' mental health. The slimming drugs, in the hands of conscienceless providers, offer even worse outcomes.

Whenever there are new "wonder drugs", the media hype them up like crazy. Then you get a surge in demand... often from people who definitely do not need them... then you get the sharks, vultures and cockroaches coming along to exploit the demand (with apologies to the three named critters).

If I remember rightly she was 14

Looked dreadful as does her daughter who also been taking it - I think it is scary how many people who are not diabetic or have medical issues are taking it and what happens when they stop or cannot afford it - you have to change the mindset re weight loss as if you don't get that right things will never change - I see a lot of trouble ahead for so many people. Karen Brady from The Apprentice looks like she has been taking it too!
