Where has Anne Dawson gone ?

Someone asked about her the other month. Anne had an operation on her leg(I believe it was that?), came back too soon and now off again on rest.

It annoys me how they don't explain such absences when they're always making out they're a real big community of presenters. Alison Young even references them as part of her sales pitch on the beauty shows. And yet they can disappear from our screens without an explanation - it just shows how utterly phoney and manipulative they are!

I'm not sure that's entirely fair. If I'd been a QVC presenter and I was sacked, I don't think I'd appreciate the company or its employees still using my name on air, no matter how well I got on with them personally. Especially if it's in the context of trying to flog stuff, eg "Mike, one of our former presenters, used this pile cushion all the time and he swears by it"

I hope Anne is recovering and will soon be back on our screens. She's one of the few presenters who still manages to be tolerable for me.

If she has left, it's a pity, and I would expect that at some point on some sort of social media platform there will be a mention of her departure. It certainly won't be trumpeted from the rooftops as it doesn't really chime with the phony QVC "family of friends" image... plus that's really not what happens at most companies. You generally mark the departure with your fellow employees, not your customers, unless your work means that you are socialising as well as working with your clients. But to judge QVC by the normal yardstick of, say, a department store. You won't be told at the beauty counter that so and so has left, if you'd even bothered to learn so and so's name in the first place. It might be annoying or frustrating not to know anything definite, but that's what happens.

It could be a similar situation to when Debbie Greenwood and Julian Ballantyne left - it started with rumours that weren't confirmed for quite a while, as they and their agents must still have been negotiating with QVC until they reached the end of the line and called it quits.

The only on-air mention of a departure I am aware of was the really lovely tribute paid to Lenny Feinstein of Nina Leonard several months after his death... and it had already been announced much earlier on their QVC Community section of their website and on social media.

I can't think she has left, otherwise they would surely have taken down her blog and eradicated all trace of her!

Somebody asked on Facebook and QVC said she has not left.

I've just checked and the reply was "Anne is still presenting at QVC".

Can't be easy when QVC presenters are encouraged to share everything, I respect her keeping things private.

Financially, Anne doesn't need the Q job for her survival, but I'm sure she's on sick leave, possibly with some annual leave too, as I'd imagine all of the presenters are in fact, self-employed. I think she's recovering.

But, on the other points mentioned, I too feel frustrated when they don't explain things to their very very wide customer base.

You've missed the point entirely: it's not about people being sacked; it's about presenters with unexplained absences. I'm not saying it should be flagged up regularly on air and a note on their website, saying that they hope to be back soon would suffice.

In terms of illness Q is probably correct to leave it up to the individual. They can comment on their blogs if they want, as Alison and Julia did. Anne has chosen not to give a running commentary.
If Anne leaves I would expect an announcement then ,but knowing Q it may not happen .People disappearing without a word is irritating.

No, I'm afraid it's you who've missed my point. I agree that unexplained absences are frustrating. I was objecting to your line that "it just shows how phoney and manipulative [QVC] are." It doesn't show that. We can speculate about the circumstances surrounding someone's disappearance but we don't know. Whether sacked or on sickness leave, the person in question or their agents might have requested that no reference be made on air - it could be that they want to deal with a very personal matter in their own way and on their own terms without well-meaning questions from concerned viewers.

I like Ann so hope she recovers from her fall soon. Talking if presenters totally sick of a certain other arrogant female presenter ranting on about how long she has worked on QVC. Really outstayed her welcome, rude presenter who looks down on others so lets hope the nice presenters get well soon and QVC retire off out stayed lresenters- time for change QVC.

I think if presenters are on sick leave or are leaving the company it's no ones business but their own. Surely people have a right to privacy in these matters. Obviously some of them talk about every little deatail of their lives openly on air. I couldn't care less who is on sick leave or absent for some other reason as they mean nothing to me.

I agree, I think the real question is who on earth cares? I wouldn't go round Sainsbury's and ask why the woman on the till from last week isn't in today, because like QVC presenters, there's no vested interest as I don't know them and they're not in my life, friends or family. That's not to say I don't care if someone is ill or bereaved, I just don't think it's my place to ask. And there lies the difference, QVC want their customers to be vested in them, they want their presenters to make customers feel like they're their friends, hopefully they'll buy more then, so I suppose it's a case of swings and roundabouts. Saying that though, the presenters never drew me in, but I suspect the lonely and vulnerable are easily took advantage of.

I remember Kara Tritton leaving years ago to write children's books. Her favourite stone was apatite which Q sold a lot of then in 9ct gold and they gave her a three or four stone ring as a going away present on air. Such grandiose gestures don't happen now, for whatever reason. Haven't seen any guests receiving anniversary cakes for a long time either.

The only one who made a big deal was Debbie Greenwood, she vented her opinions on twitter. At the end of the day it was all down to money, nothing else. She did not get the contract she wanted and and QVC let her go. The presenters negotiate their salary and terms with QVC, if not happy then that is it bye bye. I cannot see QVC announcing has left because they didn't like the money we offered. :mysmilie_17: Said fan clubs would be non stop please give them the money.

The only one I have ever heard mention his new contract was MeCharlie, who did so in passing in a diamonique show of all places.

Others have left having a change and doing something else Anthony Heywood, Kara as mentioned,Sara G who is now back as a guest presenter.

Spot on! Not only QVC want the customers vested in them, the presenters want the customers vested in them to prop up their enormous but fragile egos (some a lot more than others).
