I bought the Plakwaway Sonic Toothbrush earlier in the year. It stopped performing a couple of months ago and stopped working last week (blew a capacitor and started leaking).

Have you had similar experience? Could I ask QVC for replacement or refund?

Many thanks xx

I don't know what the Plakwaway sonic toothbrush is like, but we have the sonic toothbrush (used to cost £120) 3 of our family have had them for around 5 years now. They are great, we love them. Our dentist loves them - and I haven't been to the hygenist for years, so in my book that speaks volumes! maybe you were just unlucky!

oops sorry got so excited about my toothbrush sisn't reply to your question. If its under a year they replace or refund the faulty item!

Watersiren I've just had a similar experience with the same toothbrush.

I had it for about a month and I had to charge it up but it wouldn't hold its charge and simply stopped working or it would work for a few seconds and then stop. I emailed CS and they sent me a pre-paid envelope to return it and I got a full refund including the postage so I'd certainly give it a go.

Thank you, Catkins. I've just emailed them.

Diane, would you mind telling me which one you are using please? Thank you.

I bought this one(three heads), when a TSV last November. Mine is still going strong(fingers crossed).

Think electric items are guaranteed for a 1 year, so you should have no problem getting a replacement or your money back.

This is really odd. Exactly the same thing happened to mine in every detail. I got mine as an early Christmas present last December. CS sent me a prepaid label & I sent it back. In fact the new one turned up yesterday. I do like it but will be interested to see what happenes with this one. If the same thing happens in a few months I shall contact QVC again.

My Plakaway lasted 5 months and then packed in overnight. I got a pre-paid label for return, and a replacement only 3 days ago.

i had one and it was brill. i only ditched it becuase the replacement heads became hard to get hold of at tesco.com and Q were charging silly money. never had a problem with the actual brush.

I had one of their other sonic toothbrushes - can't remember the name. It was out of guarantee but QVC gave me the number of the supplier and they replaced it for me!!!

I never fancied the Plakaway, but I did love my Soncare, I just couldn't get the heads at a reasonable price, so gave up on it. Now I have a fancy Oral B, but can never remember to charge it up, so it sits there until I can be bothered. In the meantime I use sonic battery powered toothbrushes from Waitrose!

Hope you get yours sorted though, WS!

I bought the same one as you Watersiren, when it was a TSV last November. Mine has been fine thus far, but I have always felt that QVC's technology products (if this toothbrush comes under that category?!) are more apt to break down simply because they sell in such volumes that there is a greater chance that things are not going to be fabulously made. Or maybe I've just been unlucky as every bit of kit I've bought from them - other than the toothbrush - has ceased to work pretty quickly :dull: If you've had the product for less than a year they should replace it without question, but my understanding is that legally a consumer has the right to a reasonable life of use from a product. What constitutes a reasonable lifespan in this context is open to debate of course, but I do know of cases where people have had, for instance, a washing machine replaced a year or two outside of the initial one year guarantee that is offered with most electrical goods as they have successfully argued that such a product should be expected to perform for longer than twelve months. Obviously that's a bigger item, easier to argue that it's not the kind of thing one expects to re-purchase annually, but still...in my experience although some of QVC products have been a bit wonky CS have always replaced/refunded with very little argument.

Thank you, ArtDeco. You are absolutely right and the 'reasonable life' of a product may extend even beyond the manufacturer's guarantee.

I have emailed them and requested a refund. They replied to say that they have sent out a prepaid envelope so that I can return the faulty product.

P.S. I also agree about the quality and value-for-money re electronic products sold by QVC.

Many thanks, everyone! xxx
