Jade Troth is back

Dozy Dave is now trying to convince us that the best jadeite is gone.Handily he has some Green Serpentine which he is trying to say will rocket in value. The usual long winded story follows to flog yet another lookey likey to jade. Because that’s all he’s talking about and not the serpentine that he’s selling.

To be fair, £19.99 is about right for this. You can get similar for marginally less elsewhere but it all comes down to preferences on design etc - and, of course, it's not £19.99; it's £23.94...and, of course, Adina couldn't resist the "You must have made a mistake" BS. At least the serpentine is almost certainly 100% natural 😀.

There are some listings on Etsy where the sellers are as deluded as Chicken Little (second image attached).

I did hear DT say that they were going to keep going until it had all sold out. For a second, that scared me. Reminded me of childhood "You will sit there until you've cleared your plate" and "Ignore the bell, you are not going home until you get this right" 🤣

The best Jadeite has been almost gone for the past year.

We've had numerous 'last of the type A Jadeite" lectures too.

We've also had umpteen "last ever Nilamani" shows for the past year too.

It's complete BS.

I just saw that they’re going to be selling Herkimer Quartz later on this evening. This stuff has been around forever and is usually called Herkimer Diamond but everyone knows that it’s quartz. It’s just double terminated quartz crystals and the whiter, cleaner ones are quite pretty.I have worn a brownish Herkimer on a chain for years which I bought on eBay on a cord for about £9.00 years ago.I imagine that Troff will spend ages talking about diamonds first of course even though they are not selling them.

Adina is calling it a gemstone but surely it’s a quartz crystal which has been made into jewellery. It’s just like the double terminated Moroccan Amethyst surely in this respect only of a different type. And yes, they’re actually calling them diamonds. You can buy online very easily.

Troff yet again flogging some sickly green shade of jadeite and delivering the exact same speil as always."This is the most important Jade strand that we've ever brought our collectors" is just what he said,as he always does.Rinse and repeat. I feel sorry for anyone who thinks that they're sitting on valuable jadeite collections because they really aren't.Well, not if they bought from him.

Just thought I would drop in to Gems and see what was on. Was hoping for a bit of variety - it is the run-up to Christmas after all. But. No. First thing I saw? Jade Troth standing in front of his illuminated fish tank looking morose. Hardly an uplifting image. I clicked in - and clicked straight out.

Jade Trott always looks bored and disinterested even when he's supposedly "excited to bring this" to us. His monotone voice suggests the same too.

If that's how he looks and sounds when he's "excited", I dread to think how he'd look and sound if he was told he had 6 months left to live.

His personality is as dull as his 'dove blue' Jadeite.

Troth was flogging watermelon jadeite necklaces yesterday, assisted by the hysterical Hattie. He first showed a large slab of the jadeite, priced at £8m, & then proceeded to sell the necklaces for €299 each, supposedly the exact same quality! I noticed on the graphics that the necklaces were from 'our' David Harry jewels collection, not 'the' etc. A foot in the door already, perhaps?

Is it me or has anyone else noticed, Gemporia is made up of Primal, David Harry, Kimbie, Visage and Cavel and Co? The Gemporia items appear to be absolute tat imo. The other brands appear to be better quality! Is it now the showroom for these companies? The make no explanation as too why this is the new format..........I'm just curious....

Perhaps they've restructured the whole TGGC Group, moving away from a manufacturing profile to a marketplace type entity.

Primal, David Harry, Kimbie, Visage and Cavel and Co are all third party entities with trade agreements with TGGC. TGGC imports as a Wholesaler, from China for example, and sells those goods at a retail mark up under the brand name of 'Gemporia'. Gem Collector is just a separate part of the Group and, maybe, is the only entity that maintains/funds a much smaller team in Jaipur.

Just a complete guess, honestly.

That’s what I think has happened. I don’t think it’s a matter of Troth getting rid of too much jade bought I think it’s going to be the norm from now on. He seems to specialise in pearls shell and jade. GEMS seems to be becoming more like Amazon Or Etsy. There really is very little of their own things on now And what there is is cheap tat apart from the very occasional lorique which used to have much the same sort of stuff as Cavill & Co but much cheaper. Some of the Cavill things look good to my untrained eye but by no means all. Some seem greatly overpriced. It’s really like a completely different company now and the old Gems is gone .

If that's the case maybe that is the reason Charlie Barron left. Maybe Dave "Debbie" Harry Troth is taking over the pearl corner of Gemporia and Charlie has been moved to the side.

Looking at the main site, there's very little classic Gems/Gemporia stock now. Former collections are empty or have just one piece left, one I found from 2014, one from 2015 and the rest only about 2 years old. There are some true Loriques left but the website isn't always a reliable indicator. What does happen a lot now is that items don't survive the auction ('Product not found') for some reason.

I suspect that you are right - DT has a strong relationship in the Far East, possibly strengthened during the pandemic. Pearls, for example, farmed in huge man-made inland lakes were probably shielded more from nursing problems during COVID than Charlie's coastal, comparatively small scale operations.

I also wonder if electroplating silver to a "gold plated" standard is actually cheaper to produce than the process of polishing silver, even with modern machinery techniques.

Who can tell. Might be talking out of my behind.

Gemporia is increasingly the Dave and Toby show and I suspect they 'rent' airtime on the channel to flog their wares and impose their respective 'passions' on the long suffering audience. With no Charlie, Yianni etc. Gemporia's original vision of gem hunting, relationships with mine owners, supporting communities and so on is long gone. Nowadays looks just like a run of the mill importer of off the shelf goods from China majority being of dubious quality/ethics . Sad really ☹

Are the other brands better quality though?

Primals supplements are weaker than most on the market - but the prices are high.

Troths Jadeite is crap and his queen conch is reconstituted and way overpriced. He hyped it up as being some mega rare find - yet TJC are flogging it at the same time (for far less too!)

Most of the Kimbie products have been found by myself and others on Temu for a fraction of the price.

A family member uses Visage products - and she finds it hit and miss. She says some products are the best she's used, and others are the worst she's used.

The Cavill & Co range has looked decent from what I've seen - comparable to Lorique - but I wouldn't touch it personally because it, like all of Gemporias jewellery, it only comes with the bare minimum 6 month warranty. That to me suggests they don't stand by the quality of their jewellery. If they thought their jewellery was designed to last, they'd back it up with a reasonable warranty period - but they don't.

That's pretty much exactly how it is.

Steve WAS Gems TV / TGGC - and whilst it was never perfect under his watch, Steve wasn't afraid to listen and change things.

Then he tried to expand far too quickly by breaking into the States, and India - plus selling in stores (Selfridges?) and Virgin Atlantic flights - and then when those didn't take off, he got bored and moved on to Primal (then got bored of that too and moved onto his other new projects).

Once Steve got bored, Colin Wagstaffe (and failure everywhere he's worked) came in to run the company and comoa y shares were handed to employees, it all went downhill rapidly - to the point where, in my opinion, the business/brand is damaged beyond repair.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I don't think Gemporia will be around in 12 months time.

All valid points. Happy to say I no longer buy from them and haven't for a long while however, I do think it's a shame they are not the company they used to be!
