I would ask you to take a photograph of the full and unopened packet to post on here but you probably bought more than one so it would mean nothing! You bought "a packet" .... yeah, right....

Don't know how to post a photograph... and really it is only one packet. I'm going to buy some from different places. Tesco is only the start...

Asda mince pies with brandy are the best ones, no need to pay Q ridiculous prices for them.

Can I ask a silly question? I don't/can't bake....remember Angel cake? 3 sponge layers divided by cream. One normal colour sponge, one pink sponge, and one white sponge.

The pink layer is obviously food colouring, but how do they get the white coloured sponge? Oh dear, what a stupid question to ask, but I want to know :mysmilie_46:

Actually a very good question. Sorry I don't know the answer. I did once try to find out how to make pure white buttercream as I was making cupcakes with a "snow" theme and found out it's practically impossible (the longer you beat the buttercream, the paler it goes but I still had to liberally dust them with icing sugar at the end).

I couldn't swear to it, but I would think you need to make your own butter from cream to get it pale enough.

Diversifying from the mince pies... Godminster Triple Tipple. £17 + £4.95 for 15cl of vodka-based drinks. On Godminster website £15.95... P&P not specified.

I've not "fact checked" every festive food & drink item they are selling, but it's not rocket science.

Where's the great discount for customers to shop with QVC?

use lurpack and sugarflair sell a whitener in small tubs to beat in the buttercream. also i tiny hint of purple food dye takes the yellow out and makes the buttercream look whiter

China Girl, Angel Food cake doesn't have any fat in it but lots of egg white and that's why it's so pale - I'm a GBBO addict me ;)

Beat egg whites until they form stiff peaks, and then add cream of tartar, vanilla extract, and almond extract. Sift together flour, sugar, and salt. Repeat five times. Gently combine the egg whites with the dry ingredients, and then pour into an ungreased 10 inch tube pan.

Presumably it only browns on the outside when you bake it?

Must confess I only made it once but it did indeed lightly brown on the outside - note, it has to be eaten quickly cos of the lack of fat, it's a hard life!!!!!

I always thought Marzipan had the curse of Marmite - in fact, most people I know seem to hate it. Which means all the more for me when it's available!

Think you're right. I detest marzipan and don't know of anyone in my circle of friends and family who do like it.

That cheese and biscuits package is a terrible rip off . I work as a cheese specialist and I know that the entire contents of that "hamper" if bought separately would come to less than £15...I would probably reckon on about £13 If I'm honest. Factor in the extortionate p&p and you're paying more than £6 per item! That amount of our best stilton would cost around £2.80. The same cheddar, under £2! This offer would be slightly more palatable if they included the cheese board and the knife - but it doesn't!

I just LOVE Marmite.....and I like marzipan (sorry!). Not both at the same time, I hasten to say. Marmite on toast...yum!!

I too love both but funnily don't like Marmite on toast, just plain bread with plenty of butter made into a sort of paste.

Mr L hates the smell of it so I have to eat it in a separate room.
