Let's talk tea

OH's the same, he can't stand tea, but drinks coffee until the cows come home. I really have to fancy coffee although on work mornings I do have coffee as opposed to tea a.) to wake me up and b.) I associate a cup of tea with relaxation and I need to sit back and enjoy it. If I go out for coffee I actually always order tea, cause I find coffee shop coffee a bit strong and it can make me feel a bit nauseous. OH makes a really good cup of tea even though he doesn't drink it himself and I'm not the only one who's said that. His old work mates used to nominate him to make the tea 'cause he always made a nice one!
I have one cappuccino a day and water the rest of the time, especially first thing. I am partial to a g&t on the weekend though..🍸🍸

My
Lapsang Souchong tastes to me like hot water with a piece of smoked bacon steeped in it! Some people love it, though. I like Yorkshire Tea. I buy it from Amazon, served with a splash of full fat milk and no sugar - - definitely no lemon slice, and my cuppa has to be hot, or I can't drink it. And, I must drink it from a bone China cup and saucer. Never, never will I drink tea from a mug. It just doesn't taste right in a mug. I use boiling water, in spite of what Gail, the Ninja woman, says about the contraption she sells for heating water to different temperatures for certain hot drinks. Tepid tea is horrible. I have an early morning cup and then one or two cups in the afternoon. Drinking decent tea is an important part of my life.
Hubby likes Earl Grey tea in a china cup but he has a small china mug from an old tea service that he has green rea and peppermint tea in

Seriously though does anyone like the taste of green tea? I think I took one mouthful and spat it straight out or is it something people are prepared to choke down because of the health benefits? At least the spoonful of cod liver oil us kids had to suffer was over and done with quick!

I've only had lemon flavoured green tea which just tastes of lemon. I've been told that green tea is "an acquired taste"!

Tried green tea once. And just the once, bloomin’ horrible.
Only two of us living here, so tea only ever made in a mug.
Teabag in, stick it under the Breville one cup dispenser thingy. Leave a minute or so, good stir and squeeze teabag. A splash of skimmed milk. Job done.
To me, tea made with whole milk is undrinkable. Semi skimmed is just about acceptable.
Over Christmas, I was at my sisters house and she asked if I wanted a cup of tea, my reply was “yes please” promptly followed by “no, forget that, you’ll only have shi**y milk”.
She’s a Vegan and and frankly plant milks are the work of the devil and should be nowhere near a cup of tea.
She did reassure me that she did have semi skimmed milk as her husband is a diehard carnivore, so disaster was averted.

I’m quite partial to some fruit teas, but tend to go through phases with them. I did once hand a blackcurrant teabag to another sister, who then presented me with the resultant mess she’d made by adding milk!

Yorkshire, Tetley, or PG are the best options for me. It depends on which are on offer when it is time to buy some again. Tea bag in, water poured, leave to brew for at least 5 minutes. Squeeze the tea bag on the side of the mug before removing it, add milk and stir.

I always make tea with FRESH water, not what has been standing in the kettle.

Made in a mug, which I heat first with some of the water.

Add BOILING water, brew for 4 minutes, timed by an Alexa. But a bit longer doesn't matter.

Then add skimmed milk (I can't drink it with whole milk). No sugar.

I like most teabags except the cheap "value" ones which are tasteless.

PS I save any water that was initially in the kettle, and that used to heat my mug, to use for other things like washing up. Any HOT water goes into a flask to keep hot to use later (not for tea though).

I always had Tetleys or Scottish Blend or Yorkshire and thought it was fine. However, I was fortunate enough to travel to Sri Lanka and we went to a tea plantation where you did a tea tasting session with real tea leaves brewed and served. Wow. Orange Pekoe is just a fabulous refreshing cup of tea. We bought a couple of bags of it and still have some. You can't beat quality real tea leaves brewed in a pot.

When we were at the plantation there was a tour and when they showed us the sweepings off the floor in the drying plant the man jokingly said "Tetley". I wonder

I know someone who added milk to camomile and wondered why it tasted vile.

Funny, I came across something about tea today.

Best use filtered water and do not Boil the water. Leave in the cup and do not squeeze the tea bag.

Oh, and the stuff you get in tea bags is just basically dust compared to loose tea

Aha! So the man at the tea plantation WAS telling the truth! It actually put me right off buying Tetley and I bought the Scottish version instead.

I really only drink tea with milk when having an "afternoon tea" out somewhere posh, because even with the extra water it becomes too strong and tannin-y. When I make tea for myself, I have it weak (tea bag or infuser dangled for a count of ten) some sugar (I am trying to cut it out completely) and without milk, I love a slice of lemon, even in Darjeeling which has aroused some funny looks from traditional types, apparently lemon is only served with China tea. As far as coffee is concerned, I love it with milk and with a dash of vanilla syrup, not the four pumps they put in in coffee shops, I've even been known to ask them only to put one pump in. I don't drink coffee every day, so I have the best quality instant I can afford, one of the espresso types, so it would not be worth buying any sort of machine. However, there is a guy on facebook reels, James somebody, the Coffee Guy I think is the handle he uses and I enjoy watching him. I am neurodivergent, only diagnosed about 7 years ago, quite often I find a small amount of caffiene helps rather than hinders my sleep. Back in 2018, I think, I was reading in our local press that, since CBD products had just been made legal, an local independent coffee shop had started selling coffees made with CBD oil. I bought a cup and a (regular) brownie (£11.50 for the two items I was stunned by the cost), BUT I can remember feeling revved and calm all at once, so I took to buying the oil for myself and my very temperamental right knee started to feel like they had pumped WD40 into the cartilidge, which used to lock or give out under me. With lockdown, I kind of didn't need the extra help for my knee, but it has never been as shaky since. However, I do struggle on stairs and I've just bought some teas that are infused with it, it was on offer you could buy six packs of teabags and get a free insulated cup. I got three each of English Breakfast and Peppermint. It's lovely!
