Is Alison Young ill?

She has had the thyroid problem for a good few years. People have been saying for the last 3 years perhaps she cannot get it under control. I have an overactive one and my GP had my off to the specialist in the hospital pretty quick. So no way could AY not get sorted after such a long period, yes it can go haywire from time to time. But you are suppose to go get your blood work done every 3-6 months to catch any difference. Its not as if she is working non stop from the early hours to late at night 7 days a week. She can get to her GP and or nurse for blood tests.

She looks the same to me as I said, its just she is getting older wears too much black eyeliner, shimmerbrick and bright colours for her complexion. A warmer shade of blond dye, softer make up and more pale shades in the clothes she would look so much better. She really needs what is called a Make Under.

I'm not suggesting this is remotely a normal experience or acceptable in any way, but it took nearly a decade for me to get an accurate diagnosis and treatment for my severe thyroid problem, and I'm still struggling to get it under control after a year of of messing with dosage. Apparently it's in a terrible state since it went untreated for so long, well done former GP. Anyway, the point is who knows what's going on with Alison's or why it seems to have taken a long time to control it, thyroids are tricky buggers.

All this talk of Ali being ill might just be conjecture. She might just be a late middle aged woman who doesn`t always look her best ( like so many of us but we aint on TV !) and she`s someone who has lousy taste in clothes, shoes, makeup and presentation styles. In other word she`s some people`s cup of tea but not for others. She seems well enough to work and shriek at people and ride her horses, live her life and generally do very well out of Q and her fans adoration. Most people at some point in life suffer a health issue and perhaps suffer from it til the day they die but that wouldn`t affect their taste in shimmerbrick, gaudy coloured frocks and shoes which they can`t walk in.

Sometimes she looks nice. Thinking when Mally does her make up and when she wears peach or the grey dress she wore a couple od BPOTM ago. In other words sans gaudy dresses and shimmer brick.

Puffy eyes are a symptom of an underactive thyroid even on meds. My T4 stopped being effective thanks to the good old menopause and am now on a combination of T4 and T3. I knew my meds weren't working properly this year as my puffiness came back with dosage adjustments and a referral to an endocrine doctor is sorting me out. The cost of T3 is Hellish and can only be prescribed by a hospital doc as they are not standard pharmacy stock. With underactive thyroid probs, whilst on treatment, you can look good one day and utterly crap the next. Tiredness is deathly and whilst functioning for work you then collapse onto the couch as soon as you get in. Having to tend to her horses is a requirement no matter how she feels, she has the dagger in her back driving her on when maybe she needs to rest. Synthetic thyroxine never can replicate what the body should naturally produce, there will always be a deficit. Good luck to her.

But AY has under eye bags and has for ages. Its just a sign of aging, people keeping saying puffy(my eyes got very puffy when my thyroid went haywire), but AY has bags which is normal for a middle aged woman.

Its time we just admitted it. She is a middle aged woman no doubt going through the menapause, has eye bags getting jowly that is what happens unless you go for the fillers, botox etc.

I hate to disagree but I don't think puffy eyes come with middle age as I have never suffered from them and neither have most of my friends and we are all well past middle age. I think it's just that some people have puffy eys and others don't whatever their age. JR always has them as well. I thought AY suffered with asthma and perhaps she needs steroids as part of her treatment and of course they can cause 'moon face' and possibly puffiness around the eyes.

If she had asthma(never heard it mentioned in connection with AY), steroids it would be inhalers not tablets which are only given as a short term. The inhalers go straight into the lungs to help breathing. So no moon face. I have asthma actually bronchial and take inhalers, also sinus problems hence my very dark circles. I had a really bad bronchial infection since January until a late February and was on two courses of steroid tablets. Trust me doctors do not keep you on the tablets for longer than 8 days at a time and refuse to give a course straight after another course unless it really necessary.

I freaked out at the idea of using asthma inhalers(over 15 years ago), but was assured by the doctor they only go into the lungs and none of the side effects of the injections or tablets. If someone has to take steroid tablets long term they have to get a special blue card. AY has never sounded wheezy.

I do not have puffy eyes normally, just sometimes in the morning and they go down pretty quickly on their own. As I said she has eye bags.

Wow, this sounds pretty much like me and this post made me to reach out for my recent blood test results. Although the test says no action on Thyroid part I can see that the figures are pretty low but still within the "normal range". And I've had eye bags like forever. Thank you Loveinamist, your post is most gratefully received, at last I know now what the matter is with me.
I did see a food supplement recently that may be able to help, if anyone is interested I can post on here.

To help thyroid function you mean? I'd be interested in that.

Yes, it's called Iosol, type of Iodine that can be used internally, see the reviews

Perhaps I'm mistaken about the asthma it's a long time since I heard it. I am well aware of inhalers, steroids etc as I have COPD and have had to use all of the treatments you mention.

Please do not take iodine or seaweed supplements for thyroid function or weight loss without medical advice first.
But if I try it and feel better this would mean that it's the missing link. And if I feel unwell I'll stop.

I would not rely on Sea Kelp to protect myself from radiation. In the event of a radiation leak we would have Iodine tablets delivered to the door for those living nearest the source of the leak.

Radioactive Iodine is what they use to kill the thyroid if you have an overactive one.

Its funny well I thought it was, you cannot use a public toilet or sit beside someone using public transport for a certain period as you are radioactive. Oh yes, you have radioactive pee!!!!

Oh going back to the puffy eyes, its my eyelids which are sometimes puffy not my under eyes.

It wasn't just that she was pale, she also looked bloated and for a so-called skincare expert who apparently uses just about everything she looks absolutely dreadful and waay older than 50 in my opinion. I really hope she is ok though, but ironically, if she IS healthy then goodness, I will be taking everything she says with a large dose of salt from now on!!! She has had access to the best skincare out there, but crikey........... :(

Let's see a photo of you then? Maybe we can compare.

I don't think Alison looks older than 50 at all, I'd put her at about 45 really.

I think it's hard to say how old she looks without seeing her in real life. I suppose, knowing she has access to seemingly every beauty product on the market, people have higher expectations of how she should look than they would for other mere mortals.
