If I'm on my own in a restaurant I listen to the radio on earpieces from a pocket DAB radio.
I'll talk to anyone as hubby will testify to.If I’m sitting on my own anywhere, I people watch.
I'm a member of several cruise groups on FB having been on the P&O Iona to Norway in May. Both the boat and food were amazing and Norwegian fjords even better! Covid was present then on the ship and people were isolated on board in designated cabins. This got worse throughout June and July with more cases on board and people testing positive on their return home. Some restaurants (mainly specialist ones) have also had to close due to staff shortages due to Covid. This was on most cruiselines but there are fewer reports now. In June testing before boarding was still required but I think several cruise lines stopped this in July. The problem is that people can still test negative when they're positive and also of course can pick it up in between testing and boarding as well as when out and about on excursions.V, I think if there was even the slightest hint of Covid being aboard any of the current cruise liners (all have undergone thorough deep cleaning as is the case if Novovirus gets aboard), then I'm sure the media would have been all over it.
For my November cruise I have never had so much paperwork to fill in. All pertaining to Covid testing beforehand, and having the necessary vaccine certificates, as well as having written travel insurance to produce. So short of us all wearing hazmat suits on board then its now down to the passengers to be 'sensible'. I certainly wont be whispering in anyone's ear or getting up close and personal with strangers - I don't anyway, but personal space will be my priority.
Now it's relying on people being truthful when self testing as is the case now with P&O.I'm a member of several cruise groups on FB having been on the P&O Iona to Norway in May. That is me also.I must have one of those faces but if I’m in a queue the person next to me always starts up a conversation and it unbelievable how much personal stuff they tell you in the short time you are with them.
I've even got a little fold up stand for my Kindle and tons of great books on it, once I get engrossed I don't notice the rest of the world unless I want to people watch.Ah yes, the good old book/newspaper/iPad - anything to use as a distraction for the single woman waiting on her own. I know what you mean Mutty, as probably thousands of other women do. I generally take a whole batch of mags with me, so even if I sit alone at the buffet I don't have to sit gazing around when I'm eating. Bit different in the waiter restaurant (I normally book the table with the greatest number of people) as there is always someone to talk to.
