I love my Dysn Animal but I've had it for many years now and the brush bar bristles have worn down and is rubbish at sweeping on low pile carpet. I went to buy a new one as I'm a strong advocate of replacing the parts rather than giving up on the appliance but was horrified to discover the only way I can do that with the Animal version is to replace the clutch, to replace the clutch means taking it to a specialist and I dread to think how much that would cost. It looks so complicated, it might need more than just replacing a few parts. This is disheartened me completey with Dyson, when I replace it I really might not buy another.

Hardly surprising really, given QVCs record with things like this (GHD, Bobbi Brown etc). Suppose it might be handy for some if they do easy pays, but it's a bit of a joke really to imagine people will be gullible enough not to investigate prices elswhere.

I can't bear Dysons. We had one and it was noisy and broke twice.

We have a lovely Henry now (well a pink Hetty!) and it's the best vacuum ever.

I have just bought 'HETTY' and shes that good on my carpet it nearly kills my arms to move it over it. Has anyone bought the lighter tubes for her? Do they make her lighter to move? Tia

I have Henry and the turbo brush makes things easy but it is not cheap.

I have an 8 year old Dyson, the hose has just split, and it's very heavy. Also, a lot of the plastic tool retainer clips have split or cracked. I will not be getting another - it's Henry for me next time. I have a James already, which lives upstairs and I have used a Henry at work, so I know how good they are.

I bought a Hoover Junior (vintage late 60's - early 70's) from Ebay earlier this year - it still works and is a peach to change the belts on. You can still buy a stack of spares for it !

Replacing the brush bars is dead easy on a Dyson, not sure who told you to replace the clutch, dont see why it would involve that ?

Your post made me look again on how its done, I stand corrected, the literature I read said something along the lines of what I said in my post, just shows never believe everything you read on the net. I have found a link on Youtube showing how it's done, it's not easy, as the animal IS different to other models but yes it can be done. Going to have a go but it's very complicated.

Are you changing the head in the handheld unit or the main vacumn ?

What model is it ?
