Beauty TSV’s Generally

I was just reading on the L’Occitane TSV thread.

The main concern - amongst all the beauty TSV’s recently has been the price first and foremost; followed up closely behind by uninspiring collections.

Brissles and Eric’s Mum are correct when they mentioned that not so long back a TSV would be around the £39.00 point now it’s another £20.00 on top of that. With Elemis it’s hitting just under the £80.00 mark. These are just crazy prices.

I know operating costs have increased, but the fact is these prices cannot be considered TSV’s when you can get comparable and even better offers in their stand alone stores and online.

I have also noticed that these TSV’s are not the sell outs of previous years.

It’s not the same I know but there was the Kitchenaid TSV on the mixer - it was just a nonsense to call it a TSV £30.00 off the retail store price. Not so long back it was £100.00.

If QVC want to know why sales and profits are down then they have to accept that the landscape has changed. We can buy cheaper and often better elsewhere!

I guess one of the main reasons for increase in beauty TSV prices is the increase of the individual items.

For example pro collagen marine cream was £79 for 50ml in 2013, it is now £95.

In TSV’s PCMC is usually at 30ml. I cannot recall when they they did a 50ml one - tends to be those OTO offers for 50ml. Then there is the ongoing gripe about old stock - which I am not going to go into!

QVC and companies know because of easy pay, QVC customers will buy. Hell, they manage to sell Dyson hair stylers at £400 because no doubt of easy pay.

Unfortunately, prices in beauty products have gone up as Sazza has said and the deals we used to get back in the day are no more.

Molton Brown shower gels have gone up £3 since 2020. Every brand is more expensive just like everything in supermarket has risen.

They did 50ml plus 50ml of night cream and a supersize cleansing balm last year…. Or year before that was what started the old stock saga…one of the supersize balms had been limited stock two years before, but we were still being told we could stockpile.

I used to buy loads of TSV'S from Q but hardly do anymore. Lot's of great offers from other websites but you have to shop around and be ready when the deals come up.
I bought OH a shaving balm from Amazon a year ago and he asked to to get him another and it has doubled in price so it's happening everywhere.

Paying £60 for body products, as with the L'Occitane TSV, is not something I would consider unless I knew I could gift it all to people who know and love the brand. It doesn't make sense if the brand is unknown to the recipient.

Again, what's the point if you intend to gift it to someone who hasn't a clue about the brand?
Nowadays it is so easy to get effective and affordable skincare.. much of it with the leaping bunny too.
At a time when we all need to make hard decisions on where we allocate our money, beauty TSVs are no longer affordable luxury, imo.

Completely agree. I'm horrified at the prices of some of these "beauty products".

Elemis do the 30mls PCMC in sets they themselves sell, and when we had the Elemis counter in Boots they sold them on their own.

Ah, I remember the days when we on here were like locusts buying beauty TSV stocking piling. Aveda, yes I am getting the camomile and the blue Malva, others cherry and Shampure we could have run a saloon. The skincare and bath/shower set on TSVs we bought everyone again stockpiling. Of course, most of it was easy pay, and the prices so much lower.

I have sensitive skin and mild rosacea, my skin throws hissy fits, so I have found I just cannot use the cheap own brands from Superdrug and Boots. I end up giving them to friends when I get an outbreak, which means using the prescription cream. Not happy and feel it's unfair I cannot use cheaper brands. I always need a sample before I can decide if I can use a brand. The ladies in my local SpaceNK used to make me up samples in little pots to try before I buy. I hated bringing something back because I broke out, still look and read the ingredient lists on products. The brand I have been starting to use is Biossance not cheaper but cheaper than Elemis. The online retailers will have offers on it 20% off etc and I buy then.

I’ve only bought one beauty TSV this year I generally now just buy what I need from Amazon, EBay or other online beauty websites. Most QVC offers are padded out with products I don’t need or end up giving away to friends, so they’re no longer great value for me.

And then I'm not sure whether anyone actually wants that particular brand, that particular product, even though they say politely they love it. I'm done with beauty TSVs because my skincare regime is cheap and tailored to me and I agree, the extra padded-out products are a waste if you don't need them.

I stopped buying beauty TSVs ages ago because I’d not use 75% of the items in them. If I’m interested in a product in the TSV then I buy that single item elsewhere which ends up being a lot cheaper than buying the TSV and not using the other products.

I used to get sucked in. Then when I take a hard look at my stash, there are products I don't think I will ever use and couldn't gift.
Fine if you're an ebay or vinted fiend, but I don't have the time or inclination to make back what I spend. The cheapest option is to just.not.buy.
Donna, I feel your pain on not being able to go for the cheapest skincare because so many of them still stick unnecessary cr@p in them like fragrance or cheaper carriers... and you have to be so careful with rosacea and other reactive skin conditions.
