Worrying sign?

Toby has just said that he will not be on the rest of the week because he has nothing to show. Given that we are on the run up to Christmas, isn't this a worrying sign that not all is well at Gemporia?
How Gemporia have hung on so long is a mystery to me. I honestly did not think they'd see this year out.

I've seen nothing that shows that they're improving or rapidly gaining more customers though - so I suspect they're just 'treading water' each year.

I wonder how much longer that can continue? It'll be interesting to see if they survive next year once the rise to minimum wage kicks in plus the increase in employers NI contributions that the government announced in the budget.

The minimum wage increase is likely to affect the cost of paying the warehouse and call centre staff - and the NI increase will increase the cost of every PAYE employee they have too.

In addition to that, they've taken in new presenters - whilst also having to pay Jess Foley maternity pay.

What baffles me most is that viewers are still tuning in - or are they?
I can't understand how anyone can watch now.
I check in occasionally, out of curiosity, just to see if anything has changed. All I ever see is Dave T., droning on and on continuously, and as boring and repetitive as ever. When is this going to stop? They can't call it a 'show' because it clearly isn't one! You'd lose the will to live, watching that drivel day after day!
Surely someone in management can see how awful it is, that's if there is any management left! It must be embarrassing, from the point of view of the staff, having to be there and endure that endless self-promoting claptrap every day. 'Gemporia' it is not, there is absolutely no resemblance to it. If they can't do better than this then please do the decent thing and call it a day.

They will probably cut staffing levels. That will mean worse service, no doubt. You'll still be waiting for your "rare" piece of jade to arrive next Christmas.

They had a show on the other day where c.s. Said they had an item I was interested in scheduled so I tuned in. As it turned out they didn’t show it and it was DT as usual. Has anyone noticed the fawning adoring messages sent in to the studio by his fans. One said “ Thank you for your education your commitment and your making things available to us that we wouldn’t get otherwise” He was showing larimar which I bought on TJC at least a decade ago ago. Cringeworthy.

Wonder if Professor Troth will be invited to host the Royal Institution Christmas Lectures next year?
Isn't that aimed at kids? Actually, I'm decrepit, but that sort of learning is good for me. Like reading the headline and first paragraph. Gives you an idea without being rambley. Soooo, I don't think it's a good idea for DT to do that. The kids need to gain adulthood. He'd bore the lot to death before their time. :p

That'd make it even rarer. Coz by then, you'd have forgotten you bought it and by then it'd be an antique. And you know they are rare ;)

If he carries on the way he does, the only fan he'll have is the one under the desk to keep him from overheating when he's on a roll. If not that one, himself.

I remember Larimar being the in-thing back in the day. And it's so rare they keep finding it decades later.

Viewers don't make them their money though - paying customers do. I still have it on in the background when I'm doing things, just to watch the car crash it has become. I don't buy from them any more though - and I have no intention of buying either.

As for management - well, the management is Jake - and he's been a big part of the problem for many years.

I don't think Gemporia will ever regain credibility or improve as a channel without a buy-out. Steve doesn't seem interested these days - and the rest that are running it seem to be consistently making it worse rather than better. I think they've ran out of ideas and cannot see the wood for the trees.

It needs new eyes that can come in, see the problems, and turn it around.

Jake isn't that guy.

There's tons of larimar for sale in the Caribbean. It's not my cup of tea so I never bought any but it's as cheap as chips over there.

I used to have it on in the background but it's so bad I have news channels instead. I only ever flick across channels during ads late at night and it's always a repeat of Droning Troth...of all the recordings they coukd use! I mean, as if it wasn't bad enough the first time they actually repeat his monotonous lectures. Maybe it's their way of giving back, helping all the insomniacs out there.

Why do you need the news on? Dave Troth always has BREAKING NEWS.

Yes it is aimed at kids. But I love watching them and I’m 74!
I was being a trifle sarcastic suggesting Prof Trough. The kids would think him rubbish and throw rotten fruit at him🤣

And what do you hear on the channel? You can get it 'where it comes from', but it's a lot more expensive that buying it from us (paraphrase).

I don't watch the late night shows. Latest 'ever' was midnight 30. But, this just came to mind. Instead of mr monotone, during the night hours, they could show runs of the old DVD documentaries that they show snippits of on shows. That way, they might get people interested in the channel again: learning and showing how it used to be.
