Funny you should mention this again Tinkerbelle. The girl across the road today said my cat looks like
hers and then she said "is she pregnant", and i said no just fat. So now Hopey is on a diet, and its
been confirmed by an unsuspecting neighbour. I thought she was just cuddly, but no fat. So no more
dreamies for her. He he. And good news for you and Alf

Oh no! Poor Hopey. I can't imagine its going to be easy to trim Hopey down. Am so glad I don't have to trim Alf any. It would be a nightmare. He loves his food. Although he's not one to beg for treats fortunately.

I also got her to put on his flea treatment. Finding skin on the back of the neck on that cat is a two woman job.

She's got a tiny face, and then a collar round her neck, so i think that doesn't help. And she only eats
blooming dried food. But she does like a bit of butter, and has recently discovered Dreamies, so no
more. Tough love it is. he he. Trouble is she doesn't go out very much, and isn't active, and its worse
in the winter, like us all she likes the heat. At least Alf isn't fat. (2 woman job made me LOL)

Alf isn't very active either. He prefers warming his backside to charging round the garden. I try to get him to chase ping ping balls but honestly I get more exercise than he does as I'm the one going to pick up the balls whilst he watches the whizz past his nose.

It doesn't help Alf much that his brother is quite lean. And very active.

He has. I think I've said it here before. He is the cat love of my life. I've had cats all my life and usually two or more at a time and I've loved them all but he is just something else. I can't resist him.

First day of Hopey's diet. Only small tip of butter (favourite) and she's looking at me longinly when i
was eating my pancake, so thats when i gave her small bit of butter. No dreamies today matesy, and
i was out putting the lights outside, so she had a bit of a run around, not much, but better than
nothing. LOL

How's Hopey's diet going?? Alf has been eating for England since the vet said he wasn't fat. I think he understood every word she said. He heard that he could easily be 9 - 11kg given his breed so he's going for it ... lol. But it doesn't matter as he's unlikely to need to get weighed again any time soon.

Oh i feel so mean, she sits at her dish waiting for her food, and i measure a small amount and put into her dish,
all that damm dried food, which looks so awful. Did give her some dreamies, as its christmas and i'm off my
diet already LOL. Must get my son to show me how to put photos up when he's down christmas day, so you
can all see sausage roll hopey. I think she's cute anyway.I'm glad Alf *the love of your life* doesn't have to
diet, it is hard. You do feel mean LOL

awwwww barbs, let her be tubby  it's so hard when they don't understand

You wouldn't say that if you were with her. She's got cat flu (it came with her) and i'm forever chasing her to
clean her nose, so she runs when she sees me. Its so funny, and she scratches if she doesn;t want stroking
. Knows her own mind , like me LOL

My son has a British Blue/Cream...she is huge,(and a bit on the porky side cause she is so dam lazy) but I feel that any big breed of cat looks fat to many vets, they seem to compair them all to a standard domestic..he bought a ~Catit Sensis Food Maze~ on Amazon black friday, she now has to work for her food and it is certainly helping to gradually make her slimmer, of course the Siamese has worked out you can just eat the food from the top, not that she needs slimming, she's as skinny as a rake !

By the way love the cat pictures.x

I do agree that having a vet that knows the breed is the key. And a bit like doctors vet do seem to worry about weight more than they used to.

Oh Barbs ... will that be a permanent problem? The runny nose I mean?? Not much fun for Hopey. I've had some cold/flu/tonsillitis for a week now and I am so bored of wiping/blowing my nose.

Alf had calicivirus, which is why he has had problems with his teeth. That starts with flu like symptoms but is gone within a few days leaving the underlying virus causing problems. Or not if the cat is lucky.

tink - we'll never really know but i think it was the calici virus that precipitated louis' pancreatitis. he had it 6 weeks to the day before he became ill. made a complete recovery within a few days but seems a bit coincidental to me as calici virus has been linked with pancreatitis.

****** calicivirus is such a difficult thing to pin down. Alf (avatar) has it and was really poorly. It's caused his problems with his teeth. Periodontal resorption or some such. Basically it causes raging gum disease that then starts destroying the jaw bone. Left alone the cat's teeth will simply drop out. Alf was miserable with it. Always in pain, blood on his teeth all the time and just unhappy. Harvey (camera shy brother) has probably got calicivirus but has never been tested. He has teeth problems too but never seemed in any pain. His case was much worse than Alf. He had actually had one tooth fall out because the bone was so weak! But I had no idea.

Other cats have calicivirus and it doesn't cause them any problems at all.

Poor Louis. I'm hoping that my boys only have the teeth problem as a result of calicivirus but its luck of the draw I'm afraid.

Poor janie and louis, i really feel for them, and hope things settle when he gets the darn tube out, and stops taking all the
medicines, hopefully things will have settle then janie. Hopey will always have cat flu, she was a rescue kitten, and when we
got her didn't know anything about it, but she wasn't well and the vet said cat flu and anitbiotics. So she'll always have a
blocked / runny nose, she hates getting it cleaned, and can outrun me, when i try to clean it. Its so funny, but boy can she
sneeze and when she does, we run for cover, its natures way of cleaning her nose i think LOL . Poor Tink i hope your cold/flu is better, i had an
upper respiratory infection for a month, and made my way through 2 big boxes of man size tissues blowing my nose, etc, and
it was horrible, off work for a month, and had to get pnemonia injection now. Old age is bad LOL

when louis had calici, he had flu like symptoms - high temperature, runny eyes and flayed out not interested in anything. we actually had a vet's appointment that day for his program injection but he was clearly very unwell. he had the usual anti-inflammatory ad antibiotic jabs and perked up in a few days. he wasn't tested for the virus but it was the vet's diagnosis. then 6 weeks later, all this started.

interestingly, louis didn't eat for about a month with the pancreatitis but when he did have a few days of eating tiny amounts, he made a real big deal of it, throwing his head around to the extent that he's throw the food out of his mouth. all the vets who saw it or listened to my description thought he had dental pain but none of the said it could be associated with calici. then when the specialist vet did the biopsies, he did a full dental exam while louis was under anaesthetic but the only thing he found was a cracked fang. he then decided it was probably a central (brain) issue and suggested an mri on his head. i refused because in my opinion, louis had been through enough and i wasn't prepared to subject him to that. if he had problems with his brain, i would assess him and decide what to do without that. i'm very happy to report that louis dumbfounded everyone by starting to eat in a competely normal fashion the day i brought him home - and he still is :)
