How spoiled are we QVC UK viewers? We are so fortunate these ever so talented presenters, find time away from their other jobs - how many more are going to become authors? - to slum it at QVC towers, for a pittance, just to enable us to have the products demonstrated by true professionals? Seriously, though, QVC does seem to be a mere 'filler', or second job for most of the guys. To be fair to them, I am sure they realise just how lucky they are to get paid, for working so few hours. I am certain many of us forumites work long hours, for minimum pay.

Personally, I wish them all good luck with the various ventures they get involved in... BUT I don't want to hear about it on air (constantly) when they are paid to work for QVC selling the brands they are presenting. Jackie K has announced her book has a publication date. As long as it's on her blog, and nowhere else, it's fine by me.

It never ceased to amaze me that these glorified shop assistants actually believe that we might be interested in their lives, especially when it comes to flogging anything of benefit to themselves. Hardly any of them are on their 'uppers' - Julia owned a fabulous detached villa in Spain, Dale's wife has her own business, as does Simon's wife, Jill F's husband had his own Communications company, Debbie Greenwood's hubby Paul Coia also has his own communications business - (PR and corporate work are nice little earners for any part time media workers). Add the novels and training videos, plus all the freebies and tester/try outs that seem to abound in every QVC presenter's household, its clear they ain't on the breadline !!!

Glorified?........ They wish!

I dont really understand the point of this post as you were the one that was desperate to Join BTY ( where DF constantly promotes her books and jumble sale) even though Df's BFF blocked you from the page.

I think Jackie Kabler, when she first started, seemed almost embarrassed to be on Q. It'll be interesting to see how long she stays, particularly if a "real" TV job offer comes along that fits in with her home life. Maybe if she gets further book deals she'll leave to write full-time. Then at the other end of the scale there are those presenters who can't believe their luck that they work for QVC; Catherine Huntley seems to love everything about Q, and it's funded her house-build and Lulu G handbags. No doubt they're better paid than most sales staff but I think working for Q is a little like getting in bed with the devil; they own a part of their presenters, requiring them to blog and tweet and generally share a bit of their home lives with the viewers.
I've found myself posting a couple of times recently that the presenters are annoying me less these days but I've just realised that I'm watching far fewer whole shows, just dipping in and out when I don't have time to watch a real channel, or whilst flicking during the ad breaks. The style of bad-habit presenting that I don't enjoy watching have frequently been mentioned on this forum - too much tweeting or in jokes or inane twaddle at the expense of giving out useful info about the product for sale.

I have never been desperate to join any group but, even if I was, it is in no way connected to this post. I did join the BTY group and, if I was some kind of celeb stalker, I would not have posted on here, that the BTY page contained posts which were rather "fawning." This is what got me blocked. I took exception to the fact, that voicing my opinion was frowned upon.

Well you posted several times about not being able to access BTY page and that you had been blocked by SH. And as that page is full of self promotion by the flint i think its relevant to this thread dont you?

I took it to be an more general topic than the Flint rehash; but I found your post at #5 impolite.

Posts have been removed from this thread, please keep it "on topic"

The presenters are all self employed, and they often mention divvying up holiday and sickness cover.
So their hours are fluid, irregular, and judging by the way Debbie Greenwood and Jules disappeared from our screens, they have precious little security.

I certainly don't begrudge them other sources of income - I just wish they wouldn't self promote on screen. I read a lot, but it will never be softporn/romance or the autobio of a tv sales person...

I don't really understand this post.

Millions of people have more than one job, or several sources of income, if they want to supplement their income from QVC then why the hell not? Just because you earn a decent wage it doesn't mean you can't do any more work trying to earn some more money.

I don't see anything wrong with this either. I also don't understand the relevance of what their partners do, if their other half has a job or a business surely that doesn't meant that they shouldn't work. However I do agree that I don't want to hear them plugging books etc. whilst on air.

I don`t care how many jobs they have nor how much they earn but I DO care when I want to hear about a product and all they talk about are their books, fb groups, their Mum, their private life or the price of eggs, tweets and so on. Every on screen presentation should put the product first and foremost, afterall that`s what they`re supposed to be selling and I really can`t understand why Q allows them to detract away from this as much as they do because it`s the product and not the presenters books etc which puts money into Q`s coffers.
Granted we don`t want presenters sitting like robots and just regurgitating facts and stats but too many of them go too far the other way and spend 1% of time talking about the product and 99% of the time talking about other things such as their books or fb groups, there should be a balance and very often there simply isn`t. Tell us the facts and stats first, talk about the product, allow the guest to follow suit and then and only then, use little snippets of other things and I mean LITTLE snippets as fillers but only if related to whatever you`re selling, such as how you use it or have bought it etc and keep returning to facts and stats. The number of people who complain about not knowing clothes sizes or shoe fittings or colours or options and a multitude of other things, is growing by the day according to Q`s own facebook page. Many a time someone complains that by the time the presenter has read out the sizes, the customers option has sold out. Do Q`s powers that be, never watch their own TV channel I wonder ?

Well said Vienna - you succinctly put the arguments for this thread. Its not a case of grumbling that presenters have second jobs - perfectly entitled to have 20 jobs if they wish, but using their on-air occupation to promote their other interests.

I'm don't subscribe to Facebook, but am pleased to hear that there are complaints about the lengthy delays in giving out sizes etc.

For those of us lesser mortals, please stop using abbreviations, I have no idea what BTY is, and I'd imagine some others don't either.

As for the presenters, there isn't a single one of them whose 'book' about their lives would interest me in the slightest, and I think they are really UP themselves, to think we would be interested.

If any of them were good writers technically, then they will have had novels of good quality, published by a real publisher of note, and not a vanity publisher, many years ago! It so irks me that with the lower forms of 'celebrity' these days, suddenly they are able to become authors overnight, without even having presentable knowledge of the written word, or good English - utter tosh, here endeth my contributions to this topic.

Jackie Kabler was offered a book deal by three different publishers so I guess her books have some merit and I would definitely give them a go. I do think your point is valid regarding some of the other so called authors though.

Well coming from a journalist background she will definitely have writing skills. I think it's a crime/thriller novel she is writing and l would consider reading it because that's my personal favourite genre of book. I don't fancy DBF's books or Julia's but l very rarely go for that sort of chick lit as its just not my cup of tea!

:mysmilie_471: I'll admit I frequently check abbreviations on Google, or ask my kids! A couple that are used on here that you'll often see are BTY = Back to You (Debbie Flint's facebook group) and DHS = Dreaded High Street and I think DBF = Del Boy Flint. That's about the extent of my knowledge! :mysmilie_852:

I don't care how many jobs they have outside QVC, but like Vienna I do object to them self-advertising live on QVC - in air time which we the customers are paying for with profits from our purchases. I don't care whether they have permission to do it or not, it's your and my money ultimately that's paying for their self-promotion.
