Hammy, I've just submitted an ASA complaint. I know it will be a waste of time but I feel better for it. I included evidence of YouTube video, screen grabs, and a Taiwanese currency conversion. I'm actually late having my lunch because I wanted to get it done!

Thing is it would have to have been a deliberate action.

The only way an IW employee can get the price to show in the Taiwanese Dollar is to select that currency, it's a UK site which will default to (GBP£) for anyone in the UK accessing the site.

Absolutely Hammy, that was the point I made in my complaint. They got back to me soon after asking me to clarify a couple of points. I still had the YouTube feed on my ipad, so said exactly what was said and when. I also highlighted that the screengrab was a bit blurred, which also suggests a deliberate act in order to mislead.

Of the Masons first two items, a waterproof blanket for pets, and the charcoal damp bags. Feeling very festive now, Mulled wine anyone? 🎄🦃☃️
Drat! Missed the damp bags. I was looking at those for dual use. Hang as decorations on the Xmas tree and keep the damp away at the same time!

I should work for IW me!

Regarding waterproof blankets for pets. I always store old shower curtains and although I don’t have pets these would suffice. No cost.

They are also useful for covering items in the garden when necessary or transporting stuff to the tip to protect car seats etc. Many uses

Regarding Alex: My opinion, for what it’s worth.

I have always thought that he is a bit of a smooth operator and I never took to him on IW2. Bit smarmy and made me a little uncomfortable watching him.
I think we need to reserve judgement a little as I think some people have fallen for his nicey nicey approach on this forum.

It’s not hard to appear to be a better and more ethical person than all the other presenters is it?

It may be that he comes on here as a ‘spokesman’ on behalf of IW to smooth the way for IW to continue their antics and get us ‘onside’.
Well,it doesn’t work with me.
Call me cynical. He is just ‘one of them’. All mates and trying to protect each other and their underhand selling tactics…

Whenever an organisation performs unethically they often produce a spokesperson to soften the blow and make their excuses.

Sorry to have maybe upset anyone on here about Alex. Just my opinion and let’s reserve judgement but I realise he is in an awkward position if he is being genuine/sincere.

My opinion of this awful set up and tactics remains unchanged whatever Alex may say.
Hi guys,
I realise I’m probably on a hiding to nothing posting on here but I have been part of this forum and happy to speak out / agree / disagree etc.
My job is to not sell everything but try and tell and explain products, what they are, how they work etc as honestly as I can do that.
I’m not going to be everyone’s cup of tea and I’m aware of that and I respect those opinions, whilst of course I want to put a bit of personality into what I’m doing - it’s not about me it has to be about whatever product I have.
The pillows today - for 2 of them at £17.99 it’s a good price. They aren’t the best pillows in the world and I will also say that. But for the price they were good. They aren’t what I sleep on and I’ll make that point but I have to be aware that whoever is watching and buying - there is a price point for everyone so I have to show the merits.

The drone - this is why I specifically said at the top of the show - I’m not a drone expert because I’m not! :). But it gave me an opportunity to show people how it worked and it is brilliant for that price. I did buy them for my kids.

Now you may choose to believe me or not, I can’t affect that just as I know some won’t like me or think I’m trying to con them.
But I go to work, I love this industry and am grateful for the job I have on it. And I don’t go onto it thinking I am trying to dupe people. I try to learn as much as I can about the products I am given and tell people that at home. And then I go home myself. I have some great friends in the shopping TV industry as a whole, I also have others who I might not be there type of person. Just like in any business.
I will get things wrong - I noticed I said 720 rather than 780 and I crashed the drone into the wall 😂😂. But that’s also part of live TV and not being perfect.

So I’m not posting this because I want people to like me or because I’m trying to win favour and I’m not a spokesperson of IW. I’m a member of this forum and happen to work on IW and previously Shop on TV and other channels.
But I don’t try and dupe anyone. That’s key to me. I don’t go to work to try and con people. I work in a shop that is televised and my job when I’m on is to focus on telling people the features and benefits of what that product is.
And that is me. as a member of this forum.
Some will find me boring or smarmy or cocky and I read that and If it’s mentioned by a number of people, I do try and address it because obviously that’s not how I want to come across. So I’m Not trying to make friends or have people like me because otherwise I could just read the comments, or ignore the comments or not engage at all.
I might do a video (of course I will need permission) of what I do in a day, how it works etc as I have always said before - this forum / community is important because you watch everyday.
But like me / don’t like me - I try to do the best job I can in explaining the products I’m given and I do not try and rip anyone off. Hope you guys are well and good.

Pedro probably uses the same for his nocturnal visits to Hampstead Heath. (He goes stargazing, before Muttley and Hammy post shocked emojis). 😜😜🤣🤣

Why don't you ever reply or give your opinion on the not direct price comparison's which you happily go along with & you know are an absolute load of ******** too frightened to bite the hand that feeds you ?

Now with the clearer image you can see their price comparison the price is in TAIWANESE DOLLARS, which is equivalent to approx £110.

I'm telling, they are devious ******* shysters.

Holy…

That routine from Sal there doesn't just take the proverbial biscuit, it takes the entire frickin' McVities factory!

They show glaring contempt for viewers on the daily, but masquerading prices like that, just saying "dollars" and knowing people will think "US"… I mean… Not that I'd expect anything less from sally "bog roll bonanza" Jaxx, but that really is a new low.

So the channel gives price comparisons on products and they are either a direct comparison or if there isn’t a direct one they will stipulate it is a non direct comparison. for me - the fact you can always send a item back if you aren’t satisfied with it is the most important message. And I do think that point is made clearly.
I try and tread a careful line on here because I have joined as a member of the forum and not a spokesperson for IW. and as a member who also works in this industry all I can tell you is there is not an agenda to dupe people or mislead them. There isn’t that ‘culture’ in any of the shopping channels I have worked for.

So I can’t speak for IW as I’m not their spokesperson and it’s wrong for me to comment. But if I’m being asked on here about me trying to deliberately mislead people I will try and answer. If you disagree with me, or my responses anger people then it may be best I step away from the forum. But if I do the key thing for me is I am not ever trying to mislead people, ever.

Eh.

I'm not sure "I can make sh*t up as long as I go 'wink-wink I don't know what I'm talking about'" at the start is much of a cop out, mate.

Probably good enough for the ASA though, eh 👍

I write for a living and have to cover complex things I know little about, at short notice, and make sure that I am accurate – if I'm not, a retraction or correction has to be issued, which never looks good.

Do you know what I do when I don't know what I'm writing about? I find out. I research. I look into it. I ask people who know the subject for their opinions. I ask the 'enthusiast community' for theirs. I don't have to parrot their opinion, but I can learn from and lean on it - both sides and all that.

"People who are into drones say this…", "The manufacture lists the specs as …" when answering questions would arguably be more honest "cover" for you personally not knowing something than simply making it up on the spot to sound like you do.

I appreciate you have to do that because IW drafts you in as [insert field] expert for that show. You're a freelancer, you enjoy being on TV, and this is a gig. But even so, you don't have to indulge the …cretinism.

Rob Lamar would come on screen selling the same cheap China-sourced crap and be totally above board. Often telling the gallery to take a price comparison off screen because "I don't believe that for a second".

It is nice see someone SANE on screen, not into theatrics and hysterics.

IW only get away with it all because the ASA is deficient. You know it; we know; they know it. I've made complaints which have been upheld… only to then be told when complaining that you're STILL DOING IT, that I have a vendetta and so all further complaints won't be accepted.

And they do that not because you're in the right, but because it saves them having to do their actual job.

Which, to loop this back, is sort of what you're doing when you come on spouting inaccurate info and giving credence to claims you know are selective at best, flat out untrue at worse 🤪

Props on IW having those drones for £30 – not an awful price given they're £15 a pop on Temu – and shows how overpriced Richard Mire's are given his drone's have the same specs and come from the same factory yet cost £169.99…
