It’s very hard not to buy from China, as everything, even if made somewhere else probably has components which originate from there. I had to do jury service a last month, and we were asked to do regular Covid tests. Went along to local chemist to pick up a couple of test kits. Guess where they were made?

I don’t really like “blingy“ things but I have got a couple of JM items, both of which were at a reduced price. I bought a set of 2 rectangular glass tea light holders (for 3 tea lights) and a set of two of the small trinket boxes. Both items are in black and only the trinket boxes have any crystals on them. I use one of the trinket boxes for my car and house keys but the second one is still in its plastic bag because I’m not yet sure what to use it for. 🤔 I will say that both the tea light holders and the trinket boxes are really well made.

I know but I do my absolute best to keep it to things like jeans where the fastenings come from that evil regime but the rest of them are made elsewhere. Don't get me started on all the stuff used during the pandemic, the irony of the place where the virus originated benefitting from the plastic products made to deal with it - could be my specialist subject

China and Russia have now openly recognised the Taliban Govt which is no surprise seeing as the human rights in all 3 Countries are a joke. China also accounts for something like 25% of the World`s greenhouse gases and show no sign of wanting to improve. To be fair the USA lags behind too, they seem to talk a lot but do little about it.
Yet the Chinese economy thrives, they have practically conquered the World when it comes to exports and I agree it`s almost impossible to find anything which isn`t either totally made in China or partially made there.
I`m as guilty as the next person for owning too many clothes and too much stuff but as my granddaughters grow older and more aware of the issues surrounding global warming, landfill and the use of plastic etc I dread to think what the World will have come to when they reach my age and long after I`ve gone.
My oldest granddaughter was 15 a couple of weeks ago and when I asked her what she was going to buy with her birthday money she said " Gran I`m going to buy a pair of Doc martens because I`ve worn out several pairs of cheaper imitations which have now been thrown away and I know the Docs will last me many years so my boots will no longer end up in landfill ".
It`s good to see younger generations taking things seriously when it comes to buying stuff and yet us older generations (myself included) rarely ever do. For her sake I`m now trying my best !

Oh! I'm addicted too. Bought the swans for my neighbour's Christmas present...fantastic quality👍 I will be buying the stars soon with my overtime👌

Hmmm, I have a feeling that was the plan all along. That's just me though and I do take covid seriously.

Vienna, you've recommended many items that are animal & planet friendly. Having worked with teenagers for decades I always stick up for them & many are concerned about what's happening in the world. A couple of days ago I was people watching while waiting for my Mr T; I didn't see one elderly person wearing a washable mask - all dratted plastic, the same when it came to them buying fruit & veg - everything put in plastic bags & what's more several of them dropped litter.

I was thinking just the other day how impressed I’ve been to see a good number of young people (20’s, 30’s) wearing masks in shops. Locally because I’ve not ventured beyond our town for months.

on the other hand I get annoyed in M&S food hall with elderly people stopped in the middle of an aisle for a chat with someone, or to debate which sausages to buy. Makes it difficult to pass without almost touching them. Perhaps I’m alone in still wanting to keep a distance from others ?

The large mirror I bought this week really is heavy. If ever my review is posted, you'll be able to see the mirror in situ. I propped it against a wall. If you're going down the hanging route, you'll have to be sure you're drilling into the studs if your wall is plasterboard. A stone wall will obviously take the weight easily.
You can buy special wall fixings for a plasterboard wall. I have extremely heavy mirrors on my walls, my husband is a joiner.

You are not alone

M&S seem to attract these people, and I am in the same age group but they are totally unaware of anyone around them.Stand with the trolly blocking the aisle, usually a couple pulling the sleeves off ready made meals to see what they look like, putting them back, trying another! For a while I did not shop there to avoid the frustration, although M&S were good at controlling the numbers entering the shop, cleaning trolleys etc.

Like the woman in lockdown in our local Post Office chatting to the counter assistant for twenty minutes one wet morning while a huge queue snaked round the street outside. Nobody challenged her till I reminded her that this was a public service she was holding up. I got the expected load of abuse about how lonely she was (so were some people in the queue most likely) and how she needed to chat, but she moved on so more people were served and back home away from the covid environment. Sad that she's so lonely but a very selfish way of dealing with it to the detriment of everyone else, which is the same attitude as the M&S people. It's all about me and my needs and sod everyone else.
