They know exactly how much each product's gonna sell for, and that includes the perfumes. There are some slight variations, but it's always going to be between x and y pounds, so why they have to try and act surprised/cross or a mixture of the two, beats me. In fact it beats me why they bother with all the pretence in the first place. It's no longer an auction channel. For the well known branded prodcuts they start with a price which is usually the highest retail price an item has ever sold for on the high street, give us the patter, then squawk, squawk, and a few quid comes off the price,a bit more patter until another couple of squawks come along and the price goes down to just above the price they've decided it's going for, a bit more patter, and along come the last squawks. At this stage, through the presenter's earpieces a person in the gallery is reminding them to act and look surprised/cross/ or a mixture of the two.(roll around the floor even, if that's what floats your boat!) If the product doesn't appear to be "flying out of the door" tell 'em we're putting a clock on, so we can hurry on to the next piece of tat! With unbranded items, see above only with the start price...pluck any amount out of the air!
I love the way they get all excited when there's a non stop drop, we're not going to finish this auction until either all the stock has gone, or the price has dropped to a pound, they act as though this is some wonderful thing, in the old days, this is how the channel ran all the time! Shouldn't moan too much though,as things seem to be getting a lot better than they were!
