Mossanite

I have seen it, if you love diamonds like I do, you'll be attracted to the clarity and the sparkle, but to be honest it's most definitely not worth the money, it is man made. I'd sooner get a smaller real piece, I don't like anything but the real thing............I know! I know! I'm a jewellery snob. :mysmilie_17:

I have a ring, a bargain buy from C&C themselves, so it was much cheaper than usual.

They are the only people who can manufacture it.

It is artificially grown silicon carbide, I think it is the hardest substance after diamond.

I haven't looked at mine for some years, will have to check it out. It was originally intended as a gift.

I would imagine that 'Moissanite' is almost impossible to indepently value as it's only supplied to retailers by one company.

Being man made it obviously isn't a precious or even semi precious stone but is arguably priced as such. I suppose if the buyer, or more importantly wearer, is happy with it then that's all that really matters.

But for me it's a typical Selly Telly curio, I suspect no serious jeweller would entertain it :mysmilie_59:

Even though it is man made, it may be very expensive to make.

It is possible to man make real diamonds, but they cost more than natural ones, so they don't do it.

According to the publicity, most jewellers can't distinguish it from diamond without a specialist tester.

I agree, if you buy something because you like it then surely that is all that matter. In the early days of qvc I bought a few small pieces of diamonique and have never regretted it. I know they are not diamonds but they fill in nicely if I fancy a bit of bling.

Yeah, but Eek has always been sold as Q's fake diamond equivalent; is not like they said "Well, we think this looks so much like a diamond we'll charge real high grade diamond prices for it".

It's difficult to say of its overpriced because you can't compare.Ever since I first saw this on IW years ago I puzzled over what it is exactly and if its worth the money. I was tempted but didnt buy in the end. I have a nice diamond engagement ring and it does the job.Maybe not as sparkly but OK.

That's apparently a major criticism from actual buyers; reviewers online have said is like wearing a disco ball and is really tacky and obviously fake.

I posted about this years ago when it first appeared on TV, i've seen sight of some Moissanite Jewellery.

The stone is indeed brilliant, there's no doubt about that. In fact it's so brilliant it's very, very obviously not a Diamond, also the typical size of the stones are just too big for most real life people to own for them to be Diamond.

I'm not saying that anyone would wear Moissanite to try and fool people into thinking it is Diamond, to the eye it is so glaringly not Diamond it would be hard to imagine anyone thinking that it is.

It just looks like what it is which, let's face it, is bling. But if you like bling then that's all that matters :mysmilie_59:

Do we understand you bought it for your present drawer, strato, and (gasp! horror! shock!) you left it there? For goodness sake, what DID you give to the woman behind the counter in your local Post Office last Christmas? You know what Q have told you about taking items out of your present drawer.....tut, tut

I think the fact that De Knees doesn't seem to wear the Moissanite Ring she supposedly designed (or any Moissanite jewellery for that matter) except when she's shilling it perhaps says much.

And despite claiming to own several pieces I've never noticed Genpleaseleave wearing any either :mysmilie_59:

When it was sold years ago on IW the spin was very much around how its so good people would never know its not a diamond. Clearly not true because its much more sparkly . They have toned it down more recently but I think they like to keep an air of mystery about what it actually is. I remember from ther promos it was first discovered from matter made when ateroids land and was replicated to give the stone they sell now.
