Whilst I am fully cognisant of the fact, that archtephiles are not limited to the female of the species, I feel utterly embarrassed for Miceal in this hour. As soon as I saw he was doing the hour, I stopped watching. But what I did catch, his weak attempt at portraying himself as being totally enamoured with the bears, makes him look like what he is, a complete fake. Somehow, Charlie Brook seems able to pull this gig off. Miceal is trying too hard to appear convincing, he just looks stupid. It doesn't help that I can't abide the guy anyway! And he keeps referring to Will as "daddy bear"! Saints preserve us! Save us from this madness!

Thankfully I missed this but I think it is a tough gig for a chap, and they all look a bit wet when purring and sighing over these bears.

OMG, I didn't miss it! Just logged off and sat in front of Tv and there he is. I nearly threw up it was so cringing! Have now decided to read until Fargo starts, lol.

i suppose hes making the best of it. i am happy that the owner of charlie bears is wearing a shirt that fits

I cant stand the Charlie Bears shows ( sorry), The forced excitement and amazement from the presenters is cringe worthy, The bears looked no better than the ones you win at the amusements.

However i am glad that Charlie is on the mend :)

It is reassuring, Autumn, to know that I am not the only one who regards the bears as being of a dubious quality. Usually, all the comments are favourable. commending Charlie and Will on the workmanship, as if they sit there stitching each one by hand!

I've got a few bears (not planning on buying hundreds like those overly excitable callers!) and find them really good quality personally. I've never had any other "premium" or whatever the right word is brands of bear before so can't judge against Steiff or whatnot, but I think CB are much, much better in terms of build quality and attention to detail than what you'd get on the high street/theme parks. I agree the shows are a bit daft and the presenters act really oddly though, it's pretty cringe to watch. I'm more likely to just browse the website and watch the odd video with the sound down than watch an actual show. I don't really mind Charlie and Will themselves so much, it's more the presenters themselves who are bizarre and puerile.

CB shows spook me. To see grown men with their hands up a bear`s back ( side ? ) and pretending the bear is waving or even talking to us, just isn`t normal behaviour IMO. It goes to show no measures are too desperate when it comes to telly sales and if you were to see similar behaviour in a bricks and mortar shop or in someone`s home , then you`d give a wide swerve and administer their prescribed drugs.

While I don't watch the shows and I don't collect bears myself, I have to contradict you on this. Being an animal person I was given their Gumboots Fox and I've bought a number of bears as gifts for various people, and the quality is absolutely excellent. They are beautifully made and the recipients of the bears I've bought have been thrilled with them - genuinely, not just being polite, because they themselves have then bought CB as gifts for others. I certainly wouldn't give them as gifts if they were of questionable quality. They may be a bit of an odd couple and the shows may be a bit nauseating, but you really can't fault the quality of their bears.

I do collect steiff, hermann and deans bears, amongst other premium ranges. I can categorically assure you the quality of CB is, comparitively, poor. That is to be expected. considering the price differential. If you want a collectable bear, you will but from a collectable range. If you just want it for decoration - I have my two CB on my bed - and the loose joints with arms flailing doesn't matter, then go for an economy range. You get what you pay for and, with CB, this is an inferior bear. But even they are starting to charge more for the bears, impelled undoubtedly by the fact that so many people become addicted to these cuddly toys, and buy into the spiel given my both Will and Charlie and the presenters. They are probably more suited, price wise, to being given as a gift, than a steiff; how many people will pay between £150 - £200 for a present? So, imo, they have their market but, as my collection comprises only limited edition, rare, one of a kind and antique bears (19thC), it is not me.

When CB first appeared on QVC didn't they promote them as a teddy bear affordable to parents because they wanted to sell bears to play with - or words to that effect?

I used to collect teddy bears as a child and think the Charlie bears would be cute for children but def wouldn't buy one as an adult.
The CB shows I've seen have always creeped me out - and I find the whole thing a bit fake - but I think it's sexist to complain about Miceal or another chap presenting the shows any more than one of the women doing it. I tend to find both genders talking to soft toys the way they so a bit odd!

My sister and I call the CB shows the 'Misery Shows'. There is always someone phoning in with a really sad story and how their collection of 90 CB,s has helped them through it. Please don't think I am knocking this, I just find it rather uncomfortable, like CB are preying on people's misfortunes and loneliness. However on the other hand part of me thinks what does it matter if it helps someone through a difficult time. I don't know, it really tears my opinions in half. I never falter however on the fact that I find the actual bears very creepy, not cuddly and friendly at all. They are not for me and I do love cuddly toys.
