Before I had a problem, I never really understood the mechanics of hair growth... for anyone that secretly has an issue but doesn't want to mention it, this site is a God send:

http://www.heralopecia.com/interact/forum.php?

For me, I spent literally thousands on treatments, experts etc and, if things hadn't slowly improved, I was even considering a transplant (which doesn't have a high success rate for women).

The advice that most dermatologists and tricologists agreed on was taking slow release iron / L-lycine / B12 and eating major amounts of protein... that helps your body make the most of what it has... but won't address the underlying health issue which, for me, was (and is) an autoimmune problem.

Sorry, but it becomes an obsession after a while...

Thanks Tiddly, I'm sure the link will help anyone who is suffering with hair loss & thinning. I had no idea that transplant success has a different % for men & women! That's so sad for women with an acute problem. Just read a thread from your link & ladies say that after all that money & time needed for the proceedure it can still fall out depending on the reason for hair loss.

Perhaps you could start a thread with the link included in your accompanying post in "What ever you want" on here. I'm sure someone who is deeply distressed & suffering in silence would get a lot of support & info from it.

I really hope your hair growth stabilizes again very soon T x.

I've lost hair 24+years also because of autoimnune disease (ME) and low thyroid. Thinning and shedding all over. I would braid my hair and not comb it for a week as it was so very heartbreaking to see how much hair I lost. I thought when I go bald, I shall have it tattooed. Used a wide-tooth comb never a brush. Now, I have found the supplements that finally work for me - I take Solgar VitBComplex '100' Capsules (hate the size/aroma of tablets) and MSM1000mg. Last 2 months, have added Boots SkinHairNails (3for2) and nails are grrreat [thanks, Tinkerbelle]. And I sleep on silk pillowcases to reduce the tugging on the hair. I saw a reduction in hair loss about 3 weeks after starting the MSM/VitB. I still have fine hair and am envious of ClareSutton! but am thrilled for what I now have. (((hugs))) if this helps anyone. GratefulSnarly
