Jewellery Day - so boring.....

I have not bought any jewellery from Q for a while (eek circle pendant I think). I have bought a vintage large smoky quartz cocktail ring in solid 9 ct gold _ no hollowing out- from eBay. From 1970's I think. QVC are selling silver or plated versions for around the same and sometimes much more money than I paid. If you don't mind second hand you can get loads more for your money.

The one thing that did become clear on jewellery day is what a bloody waste of time the new graphics are. They do look smarter and more streamlined, but having the item name, then colours, then sizes all rotating in the same box takes forever. The box isn't even big enough to fit all the different colours or sizes sometimes so it takes 4 or 5 changes to get to the information you need and by then the size or colour you would've liked has sold out!

I agree Ellaaa, I found yesterday really frustrating and you can see that even the presenters are struggling at times to read the information out while the graphics are scrolled round. Obviously they didn't think it through well enough before the change over, that coupled with having to go back to the item on the website to check what the options were to find the colour options and photos on there were muddled up made for lost orders in my case. At least my credit card is better for it !

I was dismayed with the Lola Rose offers yesterday I didn't watch every minute but it just seemed to be one tiny bead bracelet after another & quite a few with more rope than beads.Where were the necklaces & more statement pieces? Now tell me I missed them! I hope the LR range is not going in the same direction as Kipling (IMO of course!) when you have several pieces there is very little new to tempt & keep the customer interested and still wanting to spend.

The trouble is, when these vendors start to become a 'regular' ie Kipling and Lola Rose, then the amount of new items available will diminish. Better to be on air 2 or 3 times a year, then it would be worth waiting for, rather than every other month with all the same old same old.

As a real jewellery addict I watched very little (and even that was on mute) partly because I couldn't stand the presenters and partly because it was soooooo boring.

I tried twice to put something in the basket to have a bit of a think about but neither attempts would go through so fired off an email to Q closed the website and spent my money on DHS today!

I'm waiting for the Viva Las Vegas show.Surely there must be something different and snazzy in that.!
I used to love Viva Las Vegas in the early days when they used to bring coloured sapphires in quality pieces and sometimes unusual designs, but was disappointed with what was shown in the show. Another brand that is cutting corners judging by some reviews I've read since they returned and even bringing an OTO in silver. I hope this isn't a sign of how the brand is changing for Q. I know that the price of gold has rocketed but I'm sure there must be some customers who would still like to see more gold items.

I too have several early VLV items in designs we won't see again.

Sadly I have a white gold ring with light blue sapphires in a pave setting, and on its 3rd wearing ( after owning it for over 6 months) I noticed one of the stones was missing. I contacted CS but there was nothing they could do as it was so long after the mbg. I can't expect a local jewellery to match it up, so I'm stuck with a ring that looks as though it has a tooth missing and is unwearable. This was about 10 years ago and the ring still sits in its box.

Brissles that's sad about your ring, you never know it might be worth trying a couple of local jewellers to see if they could do anything about it. I was so upset after my mom died to find her 3 stone engagement ring languishing in a jewellery box. It had a diamond missing and I had never seen her wear it and had assumed that she had never had one. It took me a while to find a local jeweller who would get it repaired with a good match but they did manage it. It is very delicate so I only wear it occasionally. It's made me think that I ought to get a couple of gold rings re-sized as I doubt I could afford to replace them with how prices are going up now.

Brissles if you have a local jeweller who does repairs and re-sizing then they will probably have contacts who they use for more specialised jobs such as a stone-setter. When I wanted a sapphire replaced in my grandmothers engagement ring, he got his stone setter to source a good match...he found 3 and I had to choose the one I wanted. The same guy sourced a tiny ruby for my mum as one had gone missing in one of her rings. I think there are stone setters from Birmingham's jewellery quarter who do this kind of thing for independent family- run jewellers all over the country. Maybe worth a try?

Thanks for the suggestions ladies, I may well give the local jewellers a go. I haven't bothered before, because a pave setting has stones that are so minute I assumed it would be a shaking of the head in the store, and a wasted journey. It is a shame, because I cant even 'gift' the ring to anyone, and the gold content I guess would be peanuts if I went down the 'cash for gold' route.

If you have a local bench jeweller then he or she would be your best bet. They do all their own repairs and some also make jewellery. They`d advise you if the stone could be matched and how much it would cost. I don`t know how small or large the stones in your ring are but I had a 1960`s style cluster ring which belonged to my Mum. I didn`t like it, the ring kept plucking my clothes and the cluster was too big for my taste, the stones in it weren`t particularly big so I took it to a local bench jeweller who removed the stones, I weighed in the gold setting and he then set the stones into a flat silver torgue bangle he made for me. It might be worth considering doing something similar with your ring.
