Forcing myself to watch DT, until I get a headache, but he just said, and I paraphrase, 'investment' but I don't want to influence you' (talking about a high end company that seems to deal in investment pieces. Yellow Tanzanite, which I think should be called Yellow Zoisite FROM Tanzania. But that's an aside. I got the thought come into my head. Court Cases. 'So and so' mentions something and the jury are told to disregard the comment. Once it's been placed in your mind, you can't forget or disregard it. You are influenced, even if it's subconsciously. Sooo, when the sellers mention we are not supposed to imply a value regarding investments (side note, I've had to put him on mute ;) ) people have that idea implanted and 'probably' are more inclined to buy for 'that worth' they are not supposed to mention.

Somewhat of a ramble, but I hope you can glean some sense of what was going through my mind when I wrote it ;)

if I see something I might like to buy, I put a price on for what I’d be prepared to pay. If it’s DT selling I get plenty of time to look online elsewhere and get an idea of the real cost. Not his silly 1000s of £s nowhere near comparisons. I put him on hold/mute whilst I check, make a cup of tea and go to the loo. He may have actually got to the price by the time I come back.

Not all at the same time, I hope ;) The only way you'd get an immediate price off DT is record the presentation and fast forward it ;)

No🤣🤣. Quite agree about DT. He’s so booooring. I would imagine he could he could be the cure all for insomnia. There’s a missed sale’s opportunity there, he sell recordings of his lectures to a insomniacs.

I'm not saying Dave Troth is depressing, but if I was stuck on a desert island with him and the only means of escape is by swimming through shark-infested waters, I'd choose to swim through the shark-infested waters.

Just noticed my wording is all over the place. Try again Batty.

You could drop one of his prized Jades into the water, or say, when you were paddling, you spotted a queen conch. He'd be in there like a shot, et voila, peace ;)

And another thing, sharks, from what I understand don't go on the attack unless they get wind of an injury, so you'd probably be quite safe swimming through them.

I’ve said it before on this forum, but I am someone that struggles to sleep and I do actually put Gemporia on in the night sometimes to help me sleep. I’m so pleased when Dave is on- I’m asleep in no time. I am always worried his 30 second clocks may haunt my dreams though

Madam Angeline Davies, (she of the two-second insincere smile) has been on all morning flogging gold jewellery. Breathlessly telling viewers that the breaking news is gold is now £123 a gram. She says viewers are likely buying items that the price is under a gold price of £123 a gram, so they are getting a good deal and less than the price of the gold. However, she does not mention that anyone trying to flog their gemporia gold will likely get scrap value which is very much left. It's worded carefully but still really misleading. Given that Gems have a massive loan to pay back to Santander - they would not be selling product for less than they could get for scrap. The woman thinks everyone is stupid.

Might be me, not being into the world of precious metal dealing but whence does Madam Davies get £123? Once I Caught A Fish Alive?

If I Google "Gold bullion spot prices per gram" right now, I get this...

When people on air, like Madam, sniff & sneer at grumbling about cheese wire ring settings, out of which stones drop like rain in a hurricane, they always fall back on "yes, luv, but it's all about the gemstone."

Can't have it both ways, Madam.

So, gemporia should quote the hatton garden prices. Which implies you could get a gold band for around £30 to £50? And a gold ring with gemstone nearer the £30 mark?

No, no-one is suggesting that or is that naiiive.

However, Gemporia should not try and compare their prices to a "gold price" that is literally incredible or not source-quoted/verifiable and suggest that, shopping with them by buying their (sub)standard of finished jewellery, someone is making a saving when compared to that gold price.

A few years ago I bought a Lorique red zircon in 18k gold ring for about 600 quid from Gemporia. Today, they were selling their red zircon Loriques for 3k (the ring) and 5k (the pendant). Is this a massive rip off?

Was that at full price though or clearance? I've never seen Lorique's sell for as low as £600. If you paid that, that was a genuine bargain.

The Lorique's used to be their finest stones with generous gold weights. Their prices of around £2000 to £3000 were fair. However, the Lorique's I've seen recently have had fairly ordinary stones (Assembled Opals, Smoked Ethiopian Opals) with lower gram weights of gold.
