Seemed excessive to me too. Wondered if it was someone who had just lost confidence in the hype and wanted to return them all but I suppose she’d have to produce proof before they’d entertain the idea. There was no response from them.

And going by her comments, she's definitely in a financial position to buy from anywhere she wants which makes it all the more baffling really.

Be interesting to see what happens with this. Can't see Gemporia wanting to refund this lady for her full jadeite collection. They're definitely going to tell her she's out of time where applicable.

Very naughty if Dave's been mis-selling Type B jadeite as Type A. Would explain how he managed to buy so much of it, and the rush to get it all sold

You mean Gemporia's "non-stop drops" where the price falls at a regular amount and speed until it gets closer to the price Gemporia wants to flog it at? At which point the drops slow down and the price decreases get smaller.

Yep. The one they've had a warning for from the ASA in the past - but still continue to do it.

The ASA are useless.

I've reported numerous things over the years - but they only ever seem to give out a "You must not do this again in this format" warning - and that seems to be as far as it goes.

Also, I've noticed that if the same person reports a channel to the ASA on two or three occasions, quite close together, for totally different things, they simply ignore your complaint. It's as if they see multiple complaints against one channel as a vendetta against them.

No, it means that the channels have done something morally questionable that needs investigating.

I alleged that I had reported them to the ASA - and I said 'watch this space' because I knew that the ASA had made a decision - but I wasn't allowed to post it until Gemporia had been informed.

I created a post on here, on the date that the ASA gave the all clear to post it after Gemporia had been notified - and I posted the two warnings that Gemporia had been given.

I never insinuated that anything other than being given warnings had been taken against the Company because, the ASA never seem to take any further action other than endless 'warnings'. I'd only insinuated that I knew they'd been warned - but to 'watch this space' until I could conform what they were (which I did).

The thing is, I actually believe Gemporia with this one. Why? Simple.

Gemporia's Type A Jadeite is AWFUL for colour. It's so wishy-washy and pale.

If it was in fact type B Jadeite, it would stand out a mile because dyed Jade looks a hideous shade of unnatural green.

So in my opinion, it's easy to tell that Gemporia's type A Jadeite is genuine simply because of how crap it is!

I watched his show last night and he said simply that his Company can’t buy pearls to sell at the prices Gemporia customers can afford. Again there have been environmental issues and the Chinese market is buying everything at phenomenal prices. The pearls he had on last night were sold as a favour to Jake. There are no shows scheduled for 2024, but possibly they will try and do something in 2025.

I'd be my left testicle that he will be on next year - or at least his range of pearls will be. How many times have we heard the 'never to be seen again' line from Gemporia?

We were never going to see Csarite again because the mine had supposedly closed - but then, within a matter of a year or so, not only was the mine already open again - but they'd already had some DELIVERED and set into jewellery!

Remember when we were told there would be 'no more Sleeping Beauty Turquoise - GRAB IT WHILE YOU CAN' because the mine had closed. Well, they've been flogging truck loads of the stuff for the past three or four years.

Remember when we were told to get Anahi Ametrine because 'the Bolivian government has banned exporting of the rough'. Guess what they've never actually stopped selling - and still continue to flog to this day? Ametrine. From Anahi!

How many 'last chance Nilamani' shows have we had? It's been the 'last ever show' almost every time its been brought to air for the past 9 months or so.

How many 'last chance Type A Jadeite' shows have we had - with the threat of Type B and Type C being the only shows in the future? They've been trotting that line out all year.

You can bet your life that these 'environmental issues' will have been miraculously rectified in the near future.

IF, IF, it's Charlie Barron's last ever show, then it certainly won't be the last of pearls on Gemporia. They've been flogging jewellery from China with pearls in recently - so I suspect if there's any reason why Charlie Barron is going, it's probably more likely to be because Gemporia have rattled him by buying pearls in from China instead of him - and he's thrown his toys out of the pram over it.

If pearls are so hard / impossible to get hold of now due to supposed 'environmental issues', then why is it not all over the news, social media, specialist gem websites, etc? If Pearls and Diamonds suddenly became hard or impossible to find, it would be HUGE news. Pearls and Diamonds are arguably two of the most commonly sought after gemstones for people of all ages and budgets - so the media would make a big thing about it!

That's really concerning. The Type A isn't cheap, and you'd think Gemporia would be testing their hauls independently before certifying them as Type A. The reviewer there spent a lot of money to find out it's not Type A. I'd be mortified to own a lot of Type B if I spent a bucket on Type A, so called....

Probably right on the Charlie front. The volume of Chinese factory farmed pearls at Gemporia has jumped considerably, very recently. I have some Charlie pearls and they're lovely. Those days are gone. Gem Collector had an hour titled "Designer Pearls" last night. That was a shocker and £50 was the average price for a below average pearl.

(I see that piece they described as "naturally white" when it was bleached had its description changed PDQ!)

I still buy from Gemporia because I trust their authenticity certs and respect that, in my experience, any treatments are there in their blurb if you know to check.

The problem is, sometimes those certificates are incorrect.

I bought a Padparadsha Sapphire from them once that they claimed was untreated - but it was heat treated.
I've bought an 'untreated' Blue Zircon that was actually heat treated too.
I bought an Amblygonite that they hyped up for being 'untreated' - but it was actually irradiated.

And I've been telling them for years that the certificates of authenticity that they send out for loose Andesine stones are blatantly wrong because they put a (D) for treatment (which represents 'dyed') - but they're diffused (so the treatment should say 'U').

The same applies to Jewellery Maker - they're constantly putting the treatment for irradiated stones as (I) - but that code is for waxed/impregnated gemstones. The treatment code for irradiation is (IR).

I've been telling them for at least 4 years - and I just get the standard stock response of "Thanks for letting us know. We'll pass it on to the team" - and then they just carry on regardless.

I don't believe it is deliberate though - it's simply incompetence. However, it shouldn't be happening. At all.

Shopping telly isn't properly regulated. If it was, then "errors" (be they deliberate or the results of simple incompetence) would decrease. And the channels wouldn't be able to just ignore customers' alerting them about problems.

So I can't see how it's the viewers' fault if the only information they have is that provided by the selly telly channels themselves. And how are they going to know if this information isn't correct unless once they get the items home and arrange for an expert to examine them at their own expense?

In fact, they show the gold weights, only when it suits them! Getting back to Gemporia however, in the early days Steve Bennett endeavoured to be ethical & transparent, sourcing gems at the mines & providing information and disclosure on treatments, whenever possible. He succeeded in building up a good, well respected jewellery business, which was both financially successful and entertaining to watch.
However, since the current 'Dastardly Duo' of the two Jades - Troth & Thompson - ook over the reins, all that effort and hard work has gone by the wayside. They have destroyed the company's good name, built up over the years, & reduced it to the dire mess it is today.

Probably very few. It depends when you bought them. Gemporia was relatively trustworthy in the earlier years. Don't worry!

I don't disagree with you. Which is why I referred to selly telly channels rather than just Gemporia.

Actually, I have stopped buying from TJC because I bought a pair of amber earrings from them, in good faith, then got a letter saying they had tests done on their amber and some of the tests said it was amber but others - they did not say how many - said it was not. I could have a refund or a whole 25 per cent discount if I kept them. Now forgive me but 25 per cent off because they might be plastic - or god knows what - when they had a tiny bit of silver was hardly generous. I returned them but now I cannot trust them. Why did they not test them first? I tried to mention this on trust pilot and, despite me having the letter, TJC said it was not true and tried to pull the review down. Really shifty behaviour, not buying from them any more.
