I was under the impression that the very little remaining special gold was reserved for Royal and other very special pieces now but Chuntley has just said that that is the reason for the higher price point

I like a few of the rings but nothing else is to my taste as for those prices I would like something much more individual in design. I suppose one persons timeless is another's old fashioned.

I think it is a very small amount Don't think they could call it Clogau otherwise. Can't watch a any more CH,s gushing is doing my head in.

Just googled and there have been a number of discussions on here about Clogau...they closed the Welsh production and the Gold was/is shipped to China and mixed with ore from places like SA. Discussions were 28.8.2011, 13.4.2012.

OH bought me a ring from a local jewellers years ago, before it was more commonly seen in H Samuel's and even retail stores...they used to have a Welsh Day and a representative would be there with trays of Clogau Jewellery and free Welsh cakes.

The ring was 18ct with 5 small Diamonds in and very weighty. I thought it was brilliant to have a little bit of Wales on my finger, land of my father and all that.

We called in the same jewellers a few months back and saw the same guy who sold it to us and when we mentioned Clogau and the quality of the ring etc, he rolled his eyes and said it's wasn't what it used to be.

They won't stipulate how much welsh gold is in their pieces I seem to remember reading somewhere on their site that this was to ensure they could alter the amount depending on how much welsh gold they had in their reserves. They now say that every piece has "a touch of rare Welsh Gold"

I have an ingot which needed the shank building back up. I emailed Clogau with a basic query, I wasn't asking them anything unusual, just to confirm my memory was correct and it was a satin finish. Despite numerous emails I gave up and had a satin finish applied. It had to go to Birmingham to be done because of the intricate pattern.
I learned a couple of things from that.....clogau customer service was non existent and intricate patterns can cause problems when it comes to maintaining a piece of jewelry which adds to the cost.

Although I am Welsh, I won't buy any more Clogau, you are paying for hype
