I posted a while ago about wanting a Demantoid Garnet ring and one I was considering. Well, I didn’t go for that one in the end but bought this instead:

It is absolutely stunning and I love it to bits. It’s a one carat stone and it’s true what they say, it does rival a diamond for the fire factor.
However, I now have another dilemma! I am lusting after a bigger one! I have in my basket a Namibian Demantoid Garnet ring with diamonds. The garnet is 7mm round and 1.39 carats. The diamonds are only tiny (6 x 0.194 carats and 6 x 0.044 carats). It’s set in 2.92g of 18k white gold. But it’s priced at £1,150.
I understand that the bigger the carat weight of a demantoid garnet, the rarer it is so it will command a higher price, but is this a fair price for this ring? Is it right that a 1.39 carat should be a thousand pounds more than a 0.5 carat?
