Churchills rip off

Marks & Spencer have biscuits, tea etc in lovely tins, some light up & others play a Christmas tune. £10 ish or less.
I get the light up houses every year if I like the contents (yes to biscuits or chocolates, no to tea) and the look and colour, and now have a little village I put across the bottom of my fireplace at Christmas. The lights are still going after 3 or 4 years of evening use over the 3 weeks they're on show. I picked up some in the sale and a couple in a charity shop (empty) for 99p!

As the guest is always banging on about the tins, maybe people should just buy them, eat all the biscuits and wrap the tin up for a gift.

They’re overpriced anyway, especially considering what you can buy elsewhere. Thankfully I haven’t been tempted at all because I haven’t eaten any biscuits for over a year and the people I buy things for wouldn’t want them either.

No biscuits for a year!! Serious willpower...or cake instead? 😉

Can't say I'd be thrilled by an empty biscuit tin for Christmas, but each to their own!

Aldi are currently selling 400g boxes of Foxes biscuits ( all choc, no plain) for £3.99. Ok, no fancy tin, just a recyclable box, but 400g of decent biccies.) I've made my choice, and it ain't QVC!!
I don't see the point in paying all that money for a fancy tin. Back in the day when the only choice for storage containers was Tupperware which could only be bought from Tupperware parties, then these tins often came in handy. My mum kept all her sewing bits and bobs in a family circle biscuit tin and she had a similar one full of spare buttons and cakes were kept fresh in an empty Quality Street tin ( They were huge back then!) Nowadays you get stuck with a tin that you have no use for so it ends up in the recycling or the bin if you're naughty. Just give me the biscuits, and let's face it the cheapos are just as good (probably made in the same factory) and if you've got guests, lay them out on a pretty plate and they'll be just as much as a treat as something offered up in a fancy tin, they all go down the same way!

I guess it must be will power because I’ve also had no cake, chocolate, crisps or sweets for nearly a year. I chose to follow a healthy diet at the end of January and those were all weaknesses of mine. With biscuits I’d take one bite and finish the packet etc.

I don’t miss any of them to be honest, but the bonus is that I’ve lost almost 4 stone in weight. I’ve spent the money that I used to spend on junk food and rubbish on buying a whole new wardrobe. The even bigger bonus is that I feel so much healthier.

wow - 4st is a significant weight loss. Well done - and all done with restraint and willpower too, eating sensibly and healthily. Maybe you could give some of the skinny minnies on QVC a few tips, because I suspect their diets come in a weekly pen that they keep in the fridge in lieu of any food.

I would never resort to using anything like injections or weight loss pills, especially as there were reports last week of people being hospitalised after relying on them to lose weight. It also meant that diabetics couldn’t get their medication because others were using it.

I’ve lost an average of 1.5lbs a week which has been slowish, steady progress since February but it means it will stay off. I’m guessing that those who have had the jabs purely for weight loss will put their weight back on if they stop the injections.

Well done you!

Well done you!
Thank you.

I feel like a new woman. 😂 I’m now a size 12/14, which I haven’t been for about 30 years and to “celebrate” I also had my long hair cut to shoulder length. (That probably accounts for losing a few pounds 😉) I still look in the mirror and don’t see any difference, but I guess there must be because the other day I bumped into someone that I hadn’t seen for a few months and her first words to me were “Good grief. I didn’t recognise you.”

I hope that was a good thing. 🤔
