Christ no! It's a morganite lol. It's 4 carats (I think ... it might be 4.5). Either way its not a diamond.

I know a lot about jewellery ... styles, cuts etc ... but I'm not that hot on valuations but that has to be worth way more than you paid for it.

Thanks Sacha. It is very different to the ones I've bought from Gems or QVC. It was expensive though and I was gutted when I first saw the prices on the shopping channels but when I saw the actual stones even I can see I'm not comparing like with like.

Yes I think I should he he. I had a wonderfull generations 1912 one a huge marquise cut in rose gold and I sold it

Gemcherub my eldest is 5 and a half. I had acute hyperemesis in both pregnancies so I had to wait till my son was at school before I could contemplate doing it all again, that's why there's such a big gap. In some ways I'd love more but I couldn't face being pregnant again. My son was completely natural but daughter was c-section three weeks early (and still 9lb!) as I was so poorly and I'm not sue I'd fancy going under the surgeons knife again either! Plus I'm 38 this year and both were conceived through fertility treatment, not the easiest process. So we feel the signs are all pointing to quitting at 2! We're incredibly lucky to have what we have.

Back to the bling! I might think about selling my ring on here, good idea. It came from a very good jeweller in Glasgow Argyle Arcade, still in lovely original box. I'd be bankrupt if I lived in Bham! A good friend who lives near me now is from Wolverhampton originally and one day a few years ago we left babies with partners and took a train to the Jewellery Quarter for the day. I'd never been, I loved it! Been several times since, bought my diamond studs from Cirrus if you know it? They were cheaper like-for-like even than Blue Nile, and accomodated my fussiness, I wanted G VS2 in six claw platinum setting, they were the only jeweller I found who would make them for a sensible price. My friend was there at Xmas getting a ring to mark the arrival of her second son. She sent me a text - it just said "I love this place"!!

I'm not really a fan of big stones, the biggest I have is .82. My eye is naturally drawn to around .30 I think, that's what the stones in my original engagement ring are, and in one of my Deco rings and my earrings. I'm definitely more into design than the stones. When we bought my engagement ring the budget would have bought us a good 1-1.3ct of top quality single stone, but I wanted a trilogy of .30-ers! So I got my eternity ring 5 weeks later with the money left over! My fave cut is the trillion. I'm a bit obsessed with triangles generally! I have two trillions in one of my rings. Far prefer old cut to modern brilliant too. I often say if someone came in the night and replaced the stones in my modern rings I wouldn't be able to tell the difference. I'd know instantly if that happened with my old cuts, they are so unique.

I would love a second baby but I hated being pregnant. I didn't have it so bad just the normal sickness, aches and pains, although I suffer with my digestive system and it all but stopped working for a few weeks which meant every time I ate my food wasn't digesting correctly and built up until I was in agony. I'm 36 so times not on my side either.

Do I know Cirrus? YES I love Cirrus/Diamond dealer direct. Marie the manager is a star and always accommodates me at the most amazing unbeatable prices, its the only shop I would buy from in the jewellery quarter.

When the kids are a bit older I think I should take another train to Bham and we should meet up in Hockley and talk diamonds and babies (not necessarily in that order!) Yes Cirrus trade online as Diamond Dealer Direct I think? I met a chap called Raj, seemed lovely. They got specific stones in for me, loose as after talking to them I was confident they knew their stuff and I reckon I still have a good enough eye to know what I'm happy with. Sure I recommended them to someone on here a while ago and they were v happy to. There are no working jewellers local to me who work with platinum, I asked in my local jewellers and they all said they'd send my piece to Bham - and charge me £60 a time. Stuff that I thought - it'll cost me less than that on the train if I book in advance! So I did just that, went to Bham for the day, Cirrus re-sized my ring in a matter of a couple of hours for around half the price locally quoted and I had a nice day looking round Hockley!

Good luck if you decide to go for number two btw!

I would only ever use Outwork for any job. Darren is wonderful and well priced. I had a stone changed in a platinum ring, 4 new claws and re-sized and it was so reasonable, can't remember now the price but I was shocked.

I think my sapphire ring is my fave piece of jewellery. Got it to mark my completed family. I had the Tova Eek one that was virtually identical in design and always said if circumstances allowed I'd love to own a real one. Seen a couple in the Burlington Arcade and actually saw one in John Lewis Oxford Street a few years ago in that little section they have of really top-notch pre-owned jewellery.

Tinks I've found brooches to be the best bargains. I think it's cos they're not as fashionable these days so don't sell so well as other things. I'm not a necklace girl - only have one strand of beautiful pearls that I wear regularly - but love brooches. Part of my desire to be some kind of super stylish flapper (when really I'm a suburban slummy mummy!)

PS: hope my cheeky references to purloining gems from forumites isn't troubling anyone who has actually been burgled, would never wish to offend x

Another jewellery nut here. My recommended Ebay seller is Armando who is Italian and sells some fabulous jewellery here http://stores.ebay.co.uk/hawks-best-fine-antique-jewellery?_rdc=1 If you are looking for that special piece and have fairly deep pockets he is the best imo and a really nice man to boot. I have purchased some lovely jewels from him over the years and one, a beautiful emerald and diamond ring I actually sold on here. In fact my favourite piece of jewellery is a vintage double cluster ring which contains two pear shaped IF diamonds which I bought from him about 10 years ago.

Have you got a picture of it Sue? Love to see it. i Still think about the beautiful double heart pink sapphire antique ring you have. YUMMY!

This is the most beautiful "brooch" I own. It's a cape pin that would have been used at the throat to keep yer cape on a la batman! When I inherited it, it was in the bottom of a box and looking a bit grubby. I cleaned it up enough to see the platinum hallmark and out down the tomato sauce quick smart! I took it to be professionally cleaned and it was confirmed that it is all platinum and diamonds. When I realised what it was and saw it in its pristine condition it was so beautiful it almost made me want to weep. It's difficult to wear though as the "pin" itself is thick and made to wear on a heavy coat. It makes a hell of a hole in fine fabrics.



Then this brooch is another I inherited but I've had that remodelled into a solitaire ring. It didn't cost much at all as there was plenty of gold there and the jeweller used the bar on the brooch as the band. Very clever. Initially I thought it was a ruby but it turned out to be a garnet but its a beautiful colour and a very easy piece to wear. The colour and quality of it was so good that the jeweller had to test the stone to be sure.

It was in amongst a fair amount of fluff it has to be said. I suppose I've never thought about as a find but actually that's what it is. I was a bit blown away by just how much there was.
