I don't know why but yesterday I suddenly remembered the trend back in the day of having a name on your house or bungalow as well as the number. "Bella Vista" was a very popular one round my way. We didn't have one but I remember "Windrush" was opposite, "Corner ways" was the first house in the street, there was "sleepy hollow" and bizarrely "Willemhome" which we found out was a mash up of the home owner's names and my best friend's house was called "Witzend" and there was quite a few that had rather exotic sounding names probably picked up whilst on holiday somewhere. Definitely this trend has died and I don't even know what made me think of it, but it did make me giggle, especially when I remembered how Jack and Vera in Corrie stone clad their house and called it the old rectory! Did you live in a house with a name? I know that it's still a thing in posh villages, but I was in a bungalowed suburban estate where the trend now is all about loft extensions and turning over the front garden car parking space - The gnomes and names have all but gone!

There is a estate opposite mine called Bueno Vista (nice view).

This was true as it overlooked rolling fields and distant countryside views.

Then they built my house and 1000s of others on those fields, so the name is now meaningless.

And soon they will build another 2000 houses surrounding where I live, they are currently doing the preparatory access roads :(

It is Buena Vista, not Buano. All the roads are variations on the theme eg Buena Vista Drive, Buena Vista Close, Gardens, etc.

My parents first and only bought home was called very imaginatively Rose Cottage. Prior to that they lived in a council house (strictly utilitarian numbers) they then moved into the "drill hall" which was owned by the Territorial Army (army reserves?) that enabled them to save up to buy Rose Cottage, which was very large as cottages go, initially four up four and a lean to downstairs. I live in a housing association flat, so no names just numbers!
