I don't know why but yesterday I suddenly remembered the trend back in the day of having a name on your house or bungalow as well as the number. "Bella Vista" was a very popular one round my way. We didn't have one but I remember "Windrush" was opposite, "Corner ways" was the first house in the street, there was "sleepy hollow" and bizarrely "Willemhome" which we found out was a mash up of the home owner's names and my best friend's house was called "Witzend" and there was quite a few that had rather exotic sounding names probably picked up whilst on holiday somewhere. Definitely this trend has died and I don't even know what made me think of it, but it did make me giggle, especially when I remembered how Jack and Vera in Corrie stone clad their house and called it the old rectory! Did you live in a house with a name? I know that it's still a thing in posh villages, but I was in a bungalowed suburban estate where the trend now is all about loft extensions and turning over the front garden car parking space - The gnomes and names have all but gone!
