All these kitchen gadgets

Hmmm, when I read that Minim opens custard packs and sachets, I thought, "that sounds like MissMeg and her SweetTooth and NibblesPouches." Then her next post talked of nibbling 'round fairy cakes. I think OurMin is out shopping and MissMeg is AtTheKeyboard! =^.^=

How did you know!?

I am quite realistic when it comes to kitchen 'gadgets'. I do have a magic bullet from years back, and the Hulk Hogan meal machine. I really don't use either, and haven't bought anything surplus to requirements in years for the kitchen. I'm of the opinion if you've got good knives, you're sorted.

I was very tempted by the Ninja when it was on this morning. Bought a mandolin from QVC a few years ago , thought it looked a good idea. OH sliced his finger end off on first use and that was cleaning it so it's in the back of a cupboard somewhere. Got a large slow cooker that's been in my Mums loft for the past 25 years. Finally got it out and used it last year but it's back up there now , it's too big to store in my kitchen cupboards. OH would like a bread maker but we've no room. Storage is a big problem. Perhaps if I hadn't ordered so much crap from QVC in the past I would have more room to put these things.
I was going to buy this when it was a recent tsv, but I would only have been using it for preparing my salad, and that can be done easily enough with knives. And less washing up.

How did I know?

Mamas of FurryHearts always know!!! Love-love-love the picture! And the names for the telly shows are Ace!

"minim-al cookery with minim" love that lol!

I love to cook, especially for friends so I have lots of utensils and pans. But I'm conservative when it comes to large gadgets as they take up too much workspace, and if they're out of sight they're out mind for me unless for a specific purpose.

My Ninja (other liquidisers are available), stick blender and a mini processor are in use a lot.

I make lots of soup, bread now and again, but without gadgets. I would love a KitchenAid or Kenwood mixer but I don't bake often enough to warrant it sitting there, although I might be tempted if they made a smaller version.

I suppose the rule is to only buy what you know you will actually use, but we all fail that test at times!

I agree about the need for a microwave and large freezer, but for my own cooking - mostly!

I would like an anti-microwave, like a microwave but that cools things down as quickly as a microwave heats things up.

I would call it an evaworcim

I make a curry in my slow cooker once a week. I love my electric tin opener. I have a cooks essentials flat hotplate which cooks loads of things very quickly and my best ever buy was a £20 mini oven from Lidl. I used it every day and it was brilliant but eventually it gave up the ghost, from overuse probably. Thanks for the Bamix comment from someone - I kind of wanted one but I guess any old stick blender will do. Very tempted by the Ninja on QVC today but haven't really got the money, especially when I know a knife chops my onions just as well. Least used? Jamie Oliver cheese knife set. Really lovely but who the hell uses cheese knives? Not me lol.

My juicer is my least used gadget, only used it a few times, soon got fed up with all the time it takes to clean (10 seconds to drink the juice, 30 minutes to clean it).

I have a large pressure cooker, but very rarely use it.

I have a Cooks Essential pan which is very good, called a saucier. It is like a flat bottomed wok, with curved sides, so is useful for all sorts of things. The top locks onto it, with small and large draining holes. I think it was a TSV.

My Kenwood Chef was used once, but I use the liquidiser for smoothies now and again. My food processor is in the back of a cupboard.

I fell for the IW hype and after about 100 demos bought the vastly overpriced Bamix Swissline. It is not as good as the demos make out.

I have scores of other gadgets eg for cutting spiral cucumbers, for slicing veg's, for getting juice out of lemons, so many that I can't even remember them, that never get used.

My most used gadget is a tin opener, but I've never found a good one that works properly for more than a few months, inc the QVC ones and electric ones.
How about a spot of ebaying - you might get enough to buy some more ton openers and perhaps some torches.

I used to have the old Prestige type pressure cooker, I used to worry every time I used it, thinking it would explode in the kitchen! I like the look of the new TSV though. :mysmilie_480:

I probably do have too many, and some of them never get used, I have a rice cooker that was a waste of money, and I have two slow cookers - one I've had for twenty years and love and another one that I thought was a step up that I never fell in love with so I don't use it!, but I genuinely do use my bread maker the most of anything in my kitchen. I make all my own bread using it, we never have shop bought bread, haven't done for about three years. It gets used at least once a day.

Ooooh could you suggest some bread recipes. I only use bread mixes and make banana bread

I have an oven from Lidl, bought it mainly for the grill to do cheese on toast, but it is so weak it takes "hours" to do toast, by which time the bread has dried up. Very disappointed with it, I had a different one before that I used every day until it broke (from QVC actually).

The oven works OK, but I only bought it for the grill, to save firing up the large one in my main oven.

Magic bullet advice needed - - - I bought one at a knock down price from Woolworths before they closed.

I used it a lot for making smoothies, but then I started to get a leak around the rotating shaft, so that the motor base always had gunge on it after each use.

Has anyone else had this problem?

As my lovely CraftTelly.com friend, Vamps, has made an appearance on this thread and 'cos she knows my secret, I guess I had better come completely clean and confess that I also own a Cricut Cake Machine. Now this confession will no doubt completely horrify those whose kitchen gadgetry goes no further than a set of knives, a chopping board, and perhaps, a set of wooden spoons!

For those of you who don't know what I'm on about regarding a Cricut Cake (quite a few, I suspect) - it's a machine that just cuts icing :) Yes, I know, that's mad - but I bought it for a bargain price on Ebay and it cost less than 2 sets of specialist cutters (that's if I don't count the money I then spent on extra cartridges for the machine). However - I don't count this as kitchen gadgetry, this is part of my crafting gadgetry and that's a whole different matter!

And with regards to the Magic Bullet, I haven't had any leakage, but I mainly use mine for dry ingredients such as spices, parmesan cheese or breadcrumbs. I love it, hope it doesn't ever go bang!

I have a small halogen oven bought on a whim, only made toast in it. Also, a Remoska, which I bought after my kitchen fire. I did use it a lot till my kitchen was sorted but it has lived in the cupboard at least a couple of years. The Actifry I bought on another whim and used about 6 times- gave it to my son. Breadmaker went to my daughter. I do have a Philips Airfryer bought from Ideal World, which I use a lot. I'm in the process of sorting my kitchen cupboards again. I dread to think what gadgets are lurking there.

I can honestly say that, fortunately, I have never experienced a leaky rotating shaft.
