Alison Young - Is she ill?

I think Ali is just the same as we are, she has good days and bad days. Her main problem seem to be her lack of fashion sense, she don't seem to know what colour suit her and what to avoid. I have never bought into her beauty tips, I take more notice of what the FM's say. I do like Ali and love her wicked sense of humour... but as beauty expert...nah.

Its all very well for AY to bang on about her many years as a beauty therapist in the beauty industry and 25 years as an 'expert' (?) - HOWEVER, no matter how 'expert' you are in life about anything, you need to refresh yourself with courses, seminars and conferences etc to update yourself thoroughly on the latest techniques and products. I wonder if Alison does this, because I doubt very much whether a half an hour briefing session before going on air (for the past 15 years (?) ) gives her the credentials to call herself an expert anymore.

She has been with QVC for 20 of those 25 years hasn't she? Or am I getting confused with JR? Regardless, she had been with Q a long time. I very much doubt she has been moonlighting as a therapist in between shows. I think she should introduce a younger model for cosmetic shows, and keep her hand in with the skincare - she seems to be more knowledgeable on this front.

I watched Alan Carr Chatty Man the other night and he was interviewing Naomi Campbell who`se now going into acting. Carr said "oh well there isn`t much difference between modelling and acting, I have a friend who works for QVC and says she spends hours rubbing in face cream and acting the part". I wonder who he meant ?

These are precisely my thoughts. She may well have done all her training in her youth - a long time ago, but realistically is now doing the easy stuff of being a promotions girl in front of the camera.

Come on now and let us be honest here. Its the Buying Team who decide which brands are coming to QVC, not Alison Young. I remember long ago she mentioned a brand which appeared on air, she said she had been at Buying Team to get this brand on QVC and as last they had. So she was asking them to get this brand, it might have been Prescriptives??? But it was them made the final decision and finally negotiated the brand coming to air. Oh and that is when we found out she had been using their serum for years, so all the she only uses products appearing on QVC is rubbish.

The Head Beauty Buyer is the one dealing with the companies and products, Alison is just a sales woman flogging the products to us on air rarely on her own but with a brand guest. The sales pitch seems to consist of which magazine the brand has been in and which celebs is suppose to use it.

Don't you just hate it when people keep referring to achievements from decades ago as if they had just happened yesterday.

Would you want a hairdresser who hadn't lifted a pair of scissors for 20 years giving you the latest hairstyle and colour and looking to charge you Nicky Clarke prices.

Once I contacted them to discuss a booking and they wouldn't even call me back, so I can't say I'm particularly impressed with my experience so far.

And that's the thing you wouldn't be financing anything, a rich lover would be seeing to the tab, just to be in the presence of your charming wit. Think of all those luxurious treatments and fine wining and dining.
