Your Notion of the QVC Makeup First Division

Flamenco, most of the brands you mention are in SpaceNK. That is where I go test and play with the testers, so much better than going by QVC's descriptions. I have four of the Hourglass Ambient powders.:mysmilie_17: But since I got a sample of By Terry loose powder have not really been using.

Not having time or inclination to do "real" shopping for make up, I have tended to buy QVC brands for years now. I think I started buying the make up in 2006/7. I started off buying Smashbox. I loved the TSV sets they did. One of them was worn on my wedding day, with some estee Lauder and Bobbi Brown mixed in. I wore Bobbi Brown for a couple of years, the foundation sticks and lipsticks, cream eyeshadow pots and the pot rouge. I bought it on QVC but the stocks were very limited so I also bought in John Lewis. I got bored with the brand fairly quickly though, and then found Laura Geller, which always disappointed me but I never seemed to learn. Balance and Brighten was never the creamy texture they made out it was, the colour was never right and it was very drying. I did like the concealer and lipsticks though. Usually the eyeshadow were too pink so I always ended up giving them away or selling them. I have just bought a nude eyeshadow Pallet from Laura Geller with no pink whatsoever, it's lovely.

Then I tried Mally and was absolutely hooked! The colours are really amazing when worn, even though you may think they are far too bright, they look youthful and natural on the skin. I don't rate the foundations and have got bored with face defender, but I love her primers, cream blush tubes and lipsticks and glosses. However it is eye products where Mally really excels. The Taupe eyeshadow sticks are my favourite, I am now on my 5th one. The powder e yeshadows blend really nicely and last all day worn over the shadow base- again wear this daily. I go for Taupes, creams and neutrals. They starlight e yeliners are brilliant too, really do stay put and glide on like "butter" (lol). The espresso shade and the Taupes are my favourites. The mascara is one of the best ever, but Tarte rivals it.

Doll10 is great for foundation and concealer. I am on my second bottle of foundation drops.

Tarte is a recent brand for me, it's been a bit hit and miss with the palattes-only because of the insistence on pinks and purples. I have now found a couple of sets that I have kept-Taupes, creams and Brown's again! Tarte chunky lip crayons are also lovely, great colours on me and feel lovely on.

Bare Minerals original foundation is also something I always come back to, but I have had to go down a shade recently.

Finally-Joan Collins lipsticks are the best I have ever tried. I like Marylin and Sadie for me. I bought Katrina for my mum and she loves it-it is now her favourite.

I used to use high end products but now I'm trying out a few qvc brands and so far I'm impressed!
I used Sisley foundation, YSL eyeshadow and lipstick. I tried MAC Matt lipstick and is the worst lipstick I've ever tried! So drying and little staying power. All these things where so expensive!
Then I changed over to Liz Earle makeup, but they started discontinuing lots of stuff and I got a bit bored by it.

Now I'm having a bit of fun changing it up and trying new brands. So far I love tarte eye shadows, bareminerals primer and bareskin foundation, and benefit (I love the quirky benefit products, so fun!)

I've started watching Wayne Goss makeup tutorials and recognise some of the names other posters gave mentioned, like Charlotte tilbury, Kevin aucoin etc :)

I never buy make up,from QVC I only buy cheap in Boots/Tesco/ASDA etc. I often wonder where these 'High End' products are made as they all look similar to me and are obviously so cheap to buy at wholesale otherwise they wouldn't be selling it on Q as its all about profit as it is in any retail store.

Yes, it was early 90s, the old round shape eyeshadows and blushers, Bobbi did not believe in shimmer or metallic at all back then. A friend used to send stuff from the US, I sent her money and said what I would like. I did not try the foundation until it hit the UK, I went to an event in Glasgow and was colour matched. Powder products do not go off, actually I never really use much now, her lipsticks used to develop a weird smell pretty quickly and I threw out. Now the shades all seem to be very similar to each new
release.

In the 90s upwards they was a mad buying spree by the big three Estee Laude, L'Oreal and LVMH to buy up cosmetic companies, it was all about profit.

Estee Lauder bought out Stila which was a lovely niche brand, tried to turn them into MAC by releasing new collections every 2 -3 months. The quality dived, you put a brush in an eyeshadow and the pan was hit nearly first go. Stila used to come in lovely little cardboard packaging with little sayings inside. Then they sold the brand as it didn't really make money for them. Since then Stila has been sold 2 or 3 times. The one you see now is a mere shadow of the quality texture and colours of old. Look what they did to Aveda.

L'Oreal seem to take more care of their brands YSL,Lancome. LVMH destroyed Guerlain,Dior and Givenchy perfumes. They are known as the anti christ on many perfume boards.[/QUOTE

Ojon is another brand that has completely lost the plot since it was sold. I can't remember the name of the guy who used to own it but he has now started a new haircare brand called Tweak-d and sells it on the HSN shopping network in the US. I wonder if he'll bring it to QVC UK?

i hope he does the origional oil in the tub. best hair product ever and qvc sold it at a good price

I think his name was Dennis.

I love Stila and have their original products mostly eye shadows that I'm saving 'for later', I found this brand when they were repackaging and I bought everything I have at discounted prices at around under £5 per piece and free delivery mostly on cheapsmells back then.

I'm going off Laura Geller now, I went mad on her TSVs and it was my best find in make up but recently it wasn't as good. I really liked the latest Doll 10 TSV (when the previous one I didn't like at all) as the foundation is a perfect match for me (the shade matches the neck! and it seems to be non-transferable) and I'm looking forward to trying the next Tarte TSV.

I watched some videos on Tarte foundations and think that they are all too yellow so I will be watching the next TSV closely and see if they have my shade. The Tarte guest puts me off buying as she is so over made up and foundation not a good match for her skin shade imo.

Denis Simeone, I think. I remember the pictures of him venturing up the Amazon... Taya is the same kind of origins (South American hair care secrets)... even though it's more about volume.

I know! I'm a fully fledged Space NK rewards card holder! Whenever I'm in London I pop in to the nearest one to have a play. I am yet to make it out of a Space NK store without a purchase.

John Lewis is pretty good too - I do a lot of click and collect to my local Waitrose.

I don't really have a particular brand that I purchase everything from and the amount of items that I buy from QVC is dwindling. Here's a list of my HG/face make up items: Benefit Lemon Aid (QVC never stock this and if they did it would probably not be competitively priced), LG BnB (QVC purchase), Bare Minerals Prime Time Primer (new convert to this from LG Spackle), LG, Benefit and NARS blushers, Urban Decay eyeliners, Smashbox lipglosses, Tarte and Marc Jacobs lipsticks and OPI nail colours (TSVs are still brilliant value for this brand). The only make up item that I have not found my HG in is eyeshadow. The only brand that I have bought from QVC is LG but the colours I have had from TSVs have not been neutral enough for me. I've tried a Bobbi Brown one in the past and it was nice. Am keen to try Urban Decay though and will treat myself to a Naked palette at some point (am using a MUA copy at the moment).

Sorry if I'm being dumb - HG? I'm probably going to have a "d'oh!" moment when someone fills me in :mysmilie_12:

Make up revolution is worth a try as a Naked dupe too.

a new brand over here i am interested in is Nyx
it is a make up artist pro brand, like Smashbox
just launched at Boots, feel unique but only online
only display i know of is at Selfridges
but i am interested in a number of their products (they look very well priced too)

oh, i hear Tom Ford is really valued in quality
and Burberry is Tom Ford quality but at a mid price
i haven't tried any of these,
but peeps who know way more about make up then me rate them

I used to really like Mally and LG but have gone right off them. The former just don't do products that really interest me more and the latter's quality has plummeted. The only make up brand on Q now that I particularly rate is Becca, their stuff really is stunning quality.
I really like the idea of Tarte and everyone seems to love them, but the couple of bits I've tried have been pretty disappointing. I might try something again in future but I've really expected better given the hype. Ditto Doll10 actually.
I like No7 because they are literally the only brand I can find an exact foundation match in. I've tried hundreds of brands and no one else does any that are quite right. I can and do wear other foundations if I like the formulation, I can make the shades work with the right blending and tinkering, but only they make the exact colour of my skin.
I'm not that keen on the brand in general but I do really like Superdrug B's matte lipsticks. They're a soft matte and not horribly drying like a lot of mattes, they're fragrance free, reasonably priced and cruelty free. There aren't many shades but there are some very nice ones. They're usually £7.99 but on offer for £4.99 at the moment.
I'm a Nars fan; their blushers, lipsticks, foundations, concealers, bronzers and powders are really good. Not keen on the eyeshadows though, they have stunning colours but most of the formulations are crap.
I like quite a lot of Bareminerals, especially the mascaras. The ready shadows and blushers are great, the latter go on softly and not too strongly pigmented but they last well. Very flattering. I tend to only go for matte blushers but theirs have quite a soft shimmer that don't emphasise pores. I like the formulation of the matte foundation but the colours really are terrible. I have light olive skin and the lightest colour is totally orangey yellow on me, I've tried I don't know how many of the shades and they're all ridiculous on me.
I really like Gosh at Superdrug for liquid complexion products, although their powder products are a bit rubbish and crack like nothing on earth.
Used to like Benefit a lot but they'll never see another penny of my money after what they did to me last year.
Bobbi Brown used to be really good but their quality plummeted too.
I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with Urban Decay. Love the branding, packaging, ethos and so on and some of the products are stunning, but a lot are meh and overrated. The ubiquitous Naked palettes are absolutely crap in my experience. The lipsticks are so, so pigmented, they probably have the best pigmentation I've ever seen, but comfort wise all but the newer matte ones are ghastly. Drying, sticky, feathery… yuck. Mascaras are meh, most of the complexion products are nothing to write home about although I do quite like the liquid foundation. The pencil eyeliners are fantastic as are aforementioned matte lipsticks, the highlighter is good as a very blingy new year's eve decolletage type one.
I tried a Tom Ford lipstick once, apart from the stunning packaging I wasn't impressed.

Tom Ford eyeshadows quads always have a sparkle one, Burberry never have sparkle soft matt also with the singles better colour pay off. Their cream eyeshadows are amazing, you can actually layer.
Tom Ford blushers are gorgeous, but I actually think Burberry are better. The latter has a gorgeous old style makeup smell, also their are only two shades in Tom I can get away with. All Burberry are soft wearable colours.

Lipsticks Tom has a richer texture almost balm like in feel.

Never tried his mascara but Burberry Bold is lovely.

Foundation Tom is more glowy big time.
