Who's seen Les Miserables?

I always wanted to go and see Les Mis when I was a student in London but the ticket prices were way too much for my pocket.

About 10 or 15 years ago my neighbour had an emergency and gave me her tickets and I was thrilled.

By half an hour in I'm whispering to my OH "What are they singing about? What's going on?". Honestly I didn't have a scooby. Couldn't hear the words properly to understand what they were singing (I'm not old and hard of hearing btw!) and my backside was numb from the awfully hard seats up in the Gods, so I gave it another 15 minutes, looked at him and whispered "shall we go?" and snuck out!

We asked in the foyer what time it finished so we could calculate what sort of time we should get home so as not to alert the neighbour and went to the pub!

Such a letdown! And yet the drama series a few years ago was brilliant.

I agree. My eyes have been known to leak a few times throughout. Try listening to the concept album: it's in French. I don't really understand it, but it too, it good ;)
Thanks, I will do. My French has deteriorated rapidly since school (to put it mildly), but I'm sure I'll still enjoy it - just love the songs. :)

Trying to follow the plot is probably not helped by the fact that every word is sung.

I saw the original London cast a loooooong time ago. I really enjoyed it, but don’t feel the need to go again. I don’t fancy the film version at all.
Back in my student days I used to see loads of west end musicals. Bring Him Home is a killer song. It just about rips your heart out. Always need a hankie when I hear it.

Saw it in London a long time ago.
The music is the best thing for me.

If you don't want to do theatre, ticket prices, travel, then I'd recommend the anniversary show Sky Arts broadcast occasionally for free. Probably find it on YouTube etc somewhere too.

Best song from a musical recently must be This Is Me, from the Greatest Showman.
