Wedding Ahoy

My youngest son who`se 37 has recently got engaged to his partner and they`ve booked their wedding in Cyprus for June next year. Of course I`ve been to many weddings over the years but this will be my first destination wedding and we`ve been told to wear whatever we like.
My son is very laid back in his choice of clothes, he doesn`t actually possess a suit and says he has no intention of buying one and his future wife doesn`t follow fashion either. Both of them tend to live in jeans or trackies, T shirts, hoodies and the like. She`s a nurse so spends most of her life in hospital clothes.
His wife to be is adamant she`s buying her wedding dress from a charity shop and will tweak it to her own taste, something along the lines of making it into a separate wrap around long skirt with a cropped top and a pair of matching shorts underneath the skirt for chill time in the evening after the meal etc.
I`m at a loss what to wear. I don`t want to look too formal but then again I don`t want to look as if I`ve just returned from the supermarket or a trip to the Doctor. I want to look nice but not overdressed and like a Mother of the Groom but not Hyacinth Bucket in a hot sweat.
Any suggestions for suitable websites or ideas will be welcomed.

How lovely Vienna! I suspect it will be hot in Cyprus in June so a nice summer dress might be in order. No need for hats and you could wear sandals. I'm sure some others will have website links. I'm really excited for you

Wedding shopping done and dusted in the sales. I had some gift cards and money I was given for Christmas so I put them to good use. All items arrived quickly, have been tried on and fit perfectly so I`m good to go. Yes I`ve shopped early but gift cards only have a certain time period to be used and I would probably have spent my money on something else so it`s job done as they say. Here`s some pics of what I`ve bought and will wear on the day just in case anybody`s interested.

Thank you. The dress is a brand I`ve never bought before and it`s really good quality. It`s by Jolie Moi but bought via Debenhams and the shoes and bag are by Paradox London. I was lucky to get everything in the sale. I feel comfortable in them which will be important to me.

Your dress is lovely. A beautiful colour and style. Elegant but comfortable, and I suspect it will be a staple in your summer wardrobe for years to come. Lets just hope it's not unbearably hot, but hey it's sleeveless and not too long and of course I can't judge everybody on me who just cannot "do" heat. Yes I can`t say I`m a fan of really really hot weather and you`d think I`d be used to it after going abroad at least twice yearly for the past 20 years but I still search out the shade and really only come to life after dark when things are much cooler.
Having said that, on this occasion being a wedding I looked at the numerous cotton, linen, mixed fabric, viscose dresses I already have and decided none of them are really suitable for a wedding. Linen creases and cotton or mixed fabric often look more casual or not worth the money when you see them in the flesh.
Nearer the time my son and his partner will speak to the hotel wedding organiser to iron out more details such as what time of the day they want to marry, do they want the wedding outside or inside, do they want the wedding meal outside or inside etc and all the timings and extras such as flowers, cake and hairdresser.
Seeing as my son is red haired and fair skinned I suspect they`ll opt for the latest time slot they can have. There`ll be around 16 of us altogether and we`re all staying at the same hotel so information can travel fast as it were. The bride and groom have to be in the Country for a certain number of days before they can marry and they also have to submit the relevant paperwork in good time too but that`s where the hotel wedding planner comes in. She`ll advise them and sort whatever is needed.
The bride`s Mum was widowed last year so obviously the bride`s dad can`t give her away and the Mum hasn`t been abroad ever, so Mr V and myself who are old hands at travelling abroad will take her under our wings. It will be a poignant time for her.
The bride is very chilled, she`s almost 40 and was married for 3 years at 21 to a man who badly abused her, she had to flee to another town to get away from him and even then, he still stalked her. He was still stalking her when she met my son 7 years ago but thankfully with my son`s support and lots of help from various others, she is now happy, content, looking forward to their wedding especially as it`s something she said she`d never do again but has realised for every terrible man out there, there are equally as many good ones.

Wow stockton how exciting and I hope your wedding is everything you wish for and more besides. I remarried in my late 50`s after being widowed several years beforehand and took a casual laid back approach to it all and a stress free time. Here`s hoping you enjoy all the prep and have the best day ever. Congratulations !
