Do NOT use the chosen date option if you do not want to pay as soon as your order is placed. I'm trying to sort things with my Bank at the moment, but an order I made this morning for delivery on 10th June was charged immediately and has now made a mess of my account. I have so far spent an hour between Gems and Bank as my scooter is being held to ransom as the bill has bounced.

I'll let you know what happens, but just be very careful in the meantime if you don't want to be charged IMMEDIATELY.

Argey

Sorry to hear you are having problems Argey, thought gemstv kept on promoting that 'we don't charge you card until order is ready to be dispatched' this must of changed with there new delivery service, don't mention that do they!
Thanks for letting us know though Argey

Did you succumb to that hypnotising Moissanite after all, Argey?

Hope you get your account sorted and your wheels are released out of embargo soon.

It woz the flippin' new Victoria stuff that got me Huggles. As for the saga so far Gems 0/10, Gems Bank 1/10, my Bank (Co-op) 10/10, Mobility Centre 5/10. I would mention though that normal service at Gems customer service seems to have resumed.

My warning still stands as this is a problem whereby Gems just don't seem to have thought it through. They are currently looking into it with them upstairs, but in the meanwhile my account cannot be returned to normal until possibly Wednesday (three working days). So, if you can't afford to be charged immediately don't order until you can, if your card uses Verisign (at least Visa Debit or Credit and Mastercard).

Don't bother to read the rest if you're not interested in the details and personal stuff.

Gems are blaming the new Verisign security banking system and cannot do anything about it at the moment, and the manager I spoke to is doing whatever they do (emails or telephone calls, etc) to the powers that be to sort this out. I have spoken to Sainsburys (yes Sainsburys) with whom I have a permanent running order, as I use them for my shopping and place orders as soon as I start a list and keep it running for possibly 2-3 weeks. They were very helpful and told me (in brief) that they deal with card verification by asking for £1, which of course doesn't get charged and is therefore released after 2/3 days and you don't even notice anything's happened as it costs you nothing and doesn't show on your statement. They tell me this is normal practice for anything where immediate payment is not required, simply verification of the card.

In the meantime, due to my circumstances, my Bank (hurray for the Co-op) are releasing £100 out of my long-term savings account without notice and NO PENALTY. However this won't reach my current account until Monday.

I HAVE MY SCOOTER BACK. As they have already had £400 last week and £100 this afty (Gems didn't manage to totally wipe me out), they have generously(?) returned my scooter and will accept the remaining payment of £100 on Monday. (I knew I should've bought a car, I'm too old for the wind in me hair!)

"Named Weekday Delivery £9.95

We all lead busy lives, and sometimes it is difficult to rearrange your schedule in order to be home for your delivery. It is also useful for those times when you don’t want to miss out on a piece, but need to manage your budget. By delaying delivery for a couple of weeks, you get the jewellery you want but a time when you can afford it. The new named weekday service allows you to choose any weekday in the next three weeks on which you can have your order delivered."

I'm really shocked, though not at all surprised, to see that they are still making this claim this evening, despite now knowing (for at least 24 hours) that there are problems. I think this may be a job for Trading Standards if they don't pull it or sort it soon. xx

goodness what a palaver for you Argey. Am sorry you've been put to such hassle.

Am glad you're getting things sorted but yes that statement is misleading if they know there are problems and it is not actually the case.

Argey here is a way around the verisign card charge

Hi Argey... Thought I would give you a way around this problem from happening in the future it happened to me too..:11: so I found a way around it.......

Simply make a phone call to get your order going with 1st item even if you dont really want it as you can delete it after you add what you really want, then then simply add to it on the web, this stops the verisign action that happens when making the order wih 1st item the web... I hope you know what im getting at.

Thanks for that Mira, that's what CS said minus the bit about deletion of course - lol. I just think that a) they should provide what they are advertising; b) don't make your customers jump through hoops to buy from you; and c) don't go off at half-cock when you have a new idea, make sure it works first. It's a pain that Visa is a debit card as well as credit, but I don't do credit (I can't be trusted - lol), but plenty of other companies have been managing to deal with this from the start of Verisign, so I don't understand why Gems find it so tough.

I really don't know why I keep coming back to Gems (better the devil you know I suppose) but this really could be the death knell for me, having literally disrupted my life.

Thanks again.

Love

Oh Argey sorry to read of your troubles but if you want I can push you in the Wheelbarrow I bought from Snoopy.

Oh yes Yas, I'd forgotten you had that. Who bought me wheelie I can't remember? <a href="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fwww.smileycentral.com%252F%253Fpartner%253DZSzeb008%255FZNxpt484YYGB%2526i%253D23%252F23%255F33%255F20%2526feat%253Dprof/page.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/23/23_33_20.gif" alt="SmileyCentral.com" border="0"><img border="0" src="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fimgfarm%252Ecom%252Fimages%252Fnocache%252Ftr%252Ffw%252Fsmiley%252Fsocial%252Egif%253Fi%253D23%252F23_33_20%2526uiv%253D3.0/image.gif"></a> xx

Well - credit where it's due. My bank account is back in order, and Gems have made a small gesture by removing the p&p of £9.95. I only noticed this latter when I went in to remind myself of what all the hoo-ha had been about. This gesture, although small, is appreciated simply for the fact that no-one mentioned it, as is so often the case with many companies. If a goodwill gesture is made most companies usually like to make a big song and dance about it, expecting you to prostrate yourself in gratitude. Quietly given like this makes it much more acceptable.

I've had some moans lately, so thought some redress was in order.
