I love clothes, look after mine & have always thought that we should dress appropriately for every occasion. I totally agree with a venue having a dress code & can't identify when the British became so scruffy.

Totally agree. Even on the Continent, the young may dress in a casual manner, but it always looks expensively done. We just look like a load of cheap slobs against them. The funeral I mentioned was attended predominantly by the 'aged' friends and relatives, who in the main wore the respectful black, but one or two of them looked like they were off to Tesco afterwards !

As for weddings, I think that's become a minefield for dressing, regardless of what QVC throw at us. It used to be simple - (and still is for me), suits for the men and pretty dresses for the ladies. Now the young girls try to outdo each other for the title of Best Dressed Hooker at an Event ! and the blokes all want to look like those acting in Peaky Blinders with those idiot haircuts !

I find if I put a dress on to meet up for a coffee, I get told I 'look nice' - hell ! that's what happens when you peel off the leggings and jeggings !!!

If like me you spend 50 years dressing appropriately for the occasion it is very difficult to break the habit.

I agree about European females of all ages being able to dress with a certain flair no matter what they wear. I often think it probably helps that they don't spend 11.5 months of every year battling grungy weather when keeping dry is more important than looking like a fashion plate

However nothing excuses clothes which don’t fit, are dirty or any of the umpteen sins we see every day, none more so than at the Q.

I’ve started to wonder about the no trainers rule in places. I only wear trousers when out, not jeans or leggings, but since my accident have replaced all my shoes with lace ups for support. They come under the category of trainers in retail but aren’t the sort of sporty efforts, hi-tops or whatever. More a sneaker vibe or a suede lace up I suppose. I hope I’m not chucked out for being improperly dressed, come the day when I finally go somewhere other than a quick trip to the shops! 😱 I shall have to make sure I always take a walking stick with me, no matter how well my walking is going, 😆.

Mazz, buy a couple of cheap hair bows - , and then attach them to the front of your lace-ups ! no-one will know what category of footwear you have on, and have pretty shoes into the bargain ! I've shushzzed up old shoes like these lots of times - including putting clip on earrings on the front :)
