i like fray bentos, pukka pies, sainsburys do some nice ones and tescos. i had some lime tree panty pies when i went to a hampton court flower show and they were gorgous cant think why qvc use real pie company.

Oooh-err!

I think Hampton Court Flower Show may be where my friend first came across them ( Lime Tree Pantry, that is ).

I've also seen one of the other QVC pie brands at a stand at Hampton Court Flower Show... think it was Simple Simon.

Honestly, though, if you make your own pies, you know exactly what is in there and make sure it's to your taste.

I have happy memories of my mum's pies. She made the most fantastic short pastry from scratch... always with lard, and never sweetened for dessert fillings. I used to take slices to school for my packed lunch after the weekend, and always had friends agog for a taste. I've never found anyone else who can make pastry like she did, and I regret that my own horror of getting stuff stuck under my fingernails deterred me from learning her knack.

i can make practically anything from scratch...i love cooking/baking in paticular. but the more i cook the more i eat lol

Just had a look at these prices... really. I don't think so. Also, they have a 'set' of 2 pork pies for £32. How long have pies come in a set???? are they going to introduce further 'sets' and maybe a display case :). Might they suggest these pie 'sets' will become a heirloom in the future????

Were Lime Tree the pies that were on Ideal World and then QVC for a short time.....until the man presenting them was involved in a bit of a to-do with the authorities???

i think they get different people to make them the quality seems very variable. and they take too long to come a couple of weeks. and small tiny little pies with no filling. i cant tell you how bad mine were. i was in shock

Am due to have a hip op in a few weeks, so am 'organising stuff' before hand at home, so I don't need to do much when convalescing. I always make my own pies, but wont be in a position to do so, therefore I've ordered the tsv to keep in the feezer. There are mixed reviews on the QVC site, and now after reading on here some of the disasters received, I'm wary. But if I do get any gristle then I'll by-pass QVC and go straight to the Pie Co and complain.

Charlie Brooke will be in his element! Still, at least he eats, doesn't just nibble on a lettuce leaf, like a certain presenter. Trouble is I can't watch him when he starts cramming his mouth so full he can't speak - he makes me feel quite queasy when he does that and I keep thinking he's going to choke himself.

These pies are "crammed to the crust" for demonstration purpose only, you can tell because those two guests presenters can't get enough of them, stuffing their gobs every time they're on, anyone would think its the first time they've ever had a pie from their "Unreal Pie Company"

Hope all goes according to plan when you go in for your op, brissles - and get fit again really soon. No watching Pope Pete or Howard the Poo during your convalescence, or you'll have a relapse! (Just buy it....). Wishing you well, Hon.

Best of luck with the op, brissles. I hope all goes well and you make a speedy recovery. If the pies are OK it is a pretty good price IMHO, and anything which lightens the load after an op is always a good idea.

Thank you for the good wishes. I only wish I could 'hip op' ; I'm putting all this down to the years of tap dancing I did tbh. You spend your youth being told to exercise and keep fit - which I did and have; but no-one ever tells you the repercussions all this has in your 60's !!!! when hips wear out (through wear 'n' tear), knees start clicking and feet problems due to running !! Look at all the ex-sports people who are now suffering with arthritis in old age, and many an old footballer is suffering with dementia which has been claimed is due to heading the old style football. All you youngsters beware, you have been warned !

Yes, best of luck with the op, brissles. Know what you mean about the irony of a healthy / active lifestyle wearing out your joints, but at least the fact that you've always kept fit should aid your healing / recovery time. You'll have to give us your verdict on the pies!
