In the heady days of "cheap" gold jewellery on QVC - Tanzanite was the must have stone and graded accordingly. The higher grades had eye watering prices on equal terms with diamonds.

On the show tonight was a 9ct 3 stone triple AAA grade Tanzanite ring for £798. So has the bottom fallen out of the gem market ? This ring all those twenty odd years ago in 14ct (American grade) would be nearer £2000.

I doubt we'll see the likes of Kunzite, Russian Deopside, blueberry quartz; aquamarine, fire opals, pink sapphires, again. In fact when did we last even see amethyst, peridot, garnet jewellery ?

within the past few months we have had all those on Q

Blueberry Quartz didn't seem to last long. I have a ring I got on clearance way back. It is a heated treated form of amethyst. But there was also a created stone with the same name, I remember at the time people saying but it's a fake stone and really cheap on eBay.

Last year I bought a bubble style 9ct gold ring which was aquamarine and pink sapphire with diamonds. There was £100 off it as they only had a few sizes.

I doubt they would sell Russian Diopside because of the situation with Russia. Gemporia only sale Chrome Diopside no mention of Russia Also I remember QVC saying they could only get the Russian version a few months a year as the ground was frozen.

Going back over 20 years now I used to be a sucker for rings. From Q I have in 14 carat gold a ruby cluster, Tanzania cluster, opal cluster, alexandrite cluster, aquamarine cluster, citrine solitaire, and a sapphire and diamond eternity ring. Not one cost over £80. Those were the days. Sadly I don't really go anywhere to wear them and I don't buy jewellery any more.

I am out the door with brooches, that fella from Leeds, I forget his name, bought loads. Seahorse, dragon, cats, owl, frog, lovely they are and not half the price of Butler and Wilson. Those were the days.
