Argey .... I've just seen "your" ring go for £99 and the matching pendant went for £89.

Oh bum missed it! At least now I'm glad I didn't get it - aren't they just shockers. With the falling auctions it was easy to accept price differences because it was pretty much down to us if we came in too early, but now they have total control I think it's very naughty. Just for info peeps, just seen Scott selling a Tahitian pearl and categorically said that Gems do not dye their Tahitian pearls, he said they leave that to nature. Think someone must have read this thread.

Wouldn't it be nice then if they stated they were natural on their enhancement page?????? If something is natural they put an N by it and state it's natural. As you can see from the copied extract of their enhancements guide they're quite clear that all of their pearls are treated in some way!!! Now, if they WERE natural, don't you think they'd be shouting it from the rooftops AND be very clear on the enhancements page? Sorry but this is just another indication of how bad GemsTV have become.

just seen a lovely tahitian pearl pendant, at £99. are they not worth getting? also, does anyone know how they wear? will the pearl get marks on it easily etc, never owned one before.

Are they worth getting? Yes absolutely. They're beautiful. Many people on this forum have bought them over the years.

Do they get dirty? No more than any other item of jewellery AND show the dirt probably a little less.

I have today seen Scott, yet again, swearing up and down that their TPs are not dyed. However, that is a very specific word and very different to not treated. I think Scott is very slippery, he might be watchable but I'm very wary of what he says. He does seem to have a knack for saying one thing and suggesting something else.

I'm sure Meeshoo will be along to further clarify, but I think if, as has been the case lately, you are getting something like a 9mm TP and 3-4 grams 9ct gold, then it's a fair deal.

Pearls are fairly fragile, mainly due to their organic nature, but a pendant should be safe enough. Just don't let it come into contact with wet perfume or any other chemical.

Look at their enhancement page - NOWHERE does it say that their pearls are natural and untreated.

According to the enhancement page ALL VARIETIES of the pearls they sell are either dyed, irradiated, coated or bleached.

So, if their TP's are not dyed (and this is the "normal" process to achieve a black pearl if it is not a naturally occuring TP) then they're irradiated or coated. IF they are natural Tahitian Pearls without any enhancement, why doesn't it categorically say this? Does this mean that the enhancement page is incorrect then? If so, how can we rely on it for anything?????

p.s. Argey - I wouldn't have a TP bangle for everyday wear as the pearls are glued on to a stem so repeated knocks may dislodge the pearl. For occasional wear it would be fine though.

thanks guys, I find Scott quite watchable, i must admit, i have tended to believe what the presenters say, as i assumed they had to tell the truth etc. Its not good if they are implying something thats not true! So glad i found this site as i am rather clueless about this stuff, i imagine alot of people are like me and don't know better and listen to the presenters, it is really bad form if they are not being truthful.

Hi, i emailed gems tv regarding their tahitian pearls, and i recieved a reply today. The said:

"I can confirm that Gems TV cultured Tahitian pearls are naturally black in colour and not dyed. Dyed black pearls are quite common in the gemstone market but these are also much lower in price comparison. "

Hope this helps anyone looking at the tahitian pearls, i must admit i wasn't expecting to get a reply! Please that i did though

Rod on 2 last night was saying that they'd had a lot of enquiries about the TPs and he said they were not dyed and completely natural. Yeah right! Each presenter tells it slightly differently and I'm sure a lot of the time it's ignorance of the product, and it seems that actually none of the presenters have a clue about anything their selling or what the word "truth" means. Not dyed is not the same as untreated and to keep playing games with their customers' heads is unforgiveable. If a presenter makes a genuine error, it should be immediately corrected. Are these people no longer regulated?

When buying now, I'm taking more interest in the gold than anything else where value for money is concerned, and the "gems" I'm thinking of as good costume jewellery. Fortunately in my price bracket this works fine for me.

I reckon these days, the only way to be as sure as is possible if you are looking for something upmarket, is to get it from a specialist dealer with a good reputation.

Thans meeshoo, i personally am not overly bothered about them being irradiated, just don't want them dyed. I wouldn't pay a fortune for one though! have one in my basket at the mo at £84 for a 9.5mm pearl. So with the 10% off code, its not overly expensive.

Funnily enough, even if these are irradiated or dyed, for the price it wouldn't bother me. Obviously I'd rather know what treatments had occurred but ............ the prices are so good that I'll assume they've been nuked, dyed, made from plastic, farmed using oysters as slaves etc and that way I won't be unhappy!

I still would encourage people to buy the TPs from Gems because you can match but very rarely beat their prices.
