Help Support ShoppingTelly:

I usually take the opportunity to cook some new recipes the Christmas week but don’t care about traditional Christmas meals .

A bowl of pasta will do me if needs be and if there is a bottle of wine as well great, if not a crisp butty will be grand!

I wasn’t a fan of Christmas previously but now I’ve even less interest. Hate the hype and manic shopping but thankfully all that has gone now as. it’s just the two of us and we eat just want we want when we want .

I am not a lover of turkey. I eat it at Christmas if it's been cooked by my hosts, but if it's me hosting I prefer chicken or go for duck or goose.

My daughter in law is ex Army and passed her HGV1 whilst she was a serving soldier and drove everything from a supply truck to a missile launcher. This week she`s had a letter from the Dept Of Transport asking if she`ll drive a truck for them. They must be desperate because she left the Army 17 years ago when she married my son and hasn`t driven a truck since nor does she want to !

I actually bought a bottle of Sainsbury vintage Cava this week and put away for Xmas. :sneaky: Just in case I cannot get nearer the time for Xmas. I was thinking even before shortages of getting a small Beef or Veggie Wellington for a change this year. No supermarkets or even butchers are taking Xmas orders, you just turn up and whatever is there, that will be it.

Of course, the manic thing going on here is the £100 shopping voucher scheme. It opened on Monday and the system couldn't handle the 400,000 who applied on day one. Yes, I have applied and got my confirmation reference code etc, so things go well will get it mid-October. You can only use it in shops and not online. I have heard people saying they will be using for groceries.

Donna I don’t think they should have allowed us to use it in supermarkets as they did better than any other retailer during lockdown and the whole point of this is to regenerate the high street.

Again some at work are intending to use it in Curry’s for air fryers etc but they made a clean fortune on line even if the stores were closed.

If it’s at all possible I’ll use mine in the smaller shops.

Another sign of our DISunited Kingdom, nothing like this in England :(

If people can`t get a turkey then they`ll have to eat summat else.
If people can`t get that particular toy then they`ll have to buy summat else.
If certain chocolates, foodstuffs, alcohol or beer are out of stock then they`ll have to eat/drink summat else.
The whole thing is hardly life or death and at least unlike last year we can visit friends or family or have them visit us which is more important than anything else in my opinion.
A less commercialised Christmas would do a lot of people a lot of good and let them seek joy in the less material aspects.
Those who follow Christianity will always remind us that Christmas isn`t about how much we spend and what we eat or drink. I`m not a practising Christian but I will say after last Christmas when I could only see one son face to face because another son was shielding due to a lung condition and my oldest son was fighting for his life in hospital due to covid, then I don`t care if it`s beans on toast, no presents or cheap and cheerful gifts and me and Mr V sharing a bottle of Vimto instead of vino because hopefully This year everybody I love will be fit, well and safe.
Spot on V. Christmas 2020 was a strange one for the majority & in the middle of December I wondered if I'd be facing it alone. As it happened it was the most relaxed & meaningful occasion & I decided that I'd keep it simple every year. During two world wars people had to make the best of things & that's putting it mildly.

This cartoon would be funny if it was not unfortunately true for the doctors, including mine :(

Believe me Stratto we are and will be paying for this for the next 50 years.

The items which are not available to us on Q, Amazon and other on line companies grow by the day, food sits in lorries for days so when we get fruit it’s half rotten on the shelves - yes Marks I’m talking about you.

I was surprised about supermarkets, for a start. I was expecting a list of places and things like alcohol and tobacco being a no. But they are saying online is the only no. The way the first talked about it, I thought it would be independent shops. I asked out of interest in Boots can I use it here? Yes. Then House of Fraser and again it was yes. There is a small electrical shop round the corner from me, I have got my TV, fridge/freezer vacuum cleaner and my microwave(well the last time they stopped selling microwaves) from them. So was thinking of going to them to use. They had to close down as it has two men only running it they closed the whole lockdown. They deliver and set things up for you free. I was thinking of using it with them?

If we can't get anything for christmas I won't be bothered. Mr CC will though as he just has to have tradition. We're at home this year so it will be my cooked meal on Christmas Eve, some champers, and "A Christmas Carol" DVD. Then our Christmas breakfast of bagels and scrambled eggs and bucks fizz, then the presents and watching Bry tear his stocking open, a walk, pub for a couple, nap, sly g and t (me), another dog walk then our meal (curry and more champs). What could be better? I know there's two of us now which makes it more enjoyable but I used to do all of this when it was just me and you know what, it wasn't so bad 🎄🍾

Lovely to have you back! Sorry to learn you have been ill.
They do say laughter is the best medicine, after all. Dr Strato to the rescue!
Take it easy.
💐 It's lovely to have you back with us.

Thank you, both.

I'm fine now (well, as fine as I can be), but my cheeks are now hurting after laughing so much at the Boris/Queen joke!

I now have everything that I wanted as a teenager, only it's 45 years late.

I don't have to go to school or work. I get an allowance every month. I have my own place to live. I don't have a curfew, but then I don't go out anyway. I have a driver's license and my own car, but again, I don't go out. The people I know are not scared of getting pregnant and I don't have acne. Life is great!

Gone are the days when girls used to cook like their mothers. Now they drink like their fathers

I didn't make it to the gym today. That makes 59 years in a row. I decided to stop calling the bathroom "John" and renamed it "Jim". I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

When I was a child, I thought "nap time" was a punishment. Now it feels like a small vacation.

The biggest lie I tell myself is," I don't have to write that down, I'll remember it".

I don't have grey hair... I have "wisdom highlights"! I'm just very wise now.

Several years ago, I joined a support group for procrastinators. We haven't met yet, but I am still thinking about it!

Of course I talk to myself! Sometimes I need expert advice.

At my age, "Getting Lucky" means walking into a room and remembering what I went in there for.

I have more friends I should send this to, but right now I can't remember their names.

Now, I'm wondering... did I send this to you, or did you send it to me?
