Andrew is back(he was the one telling people the truth about Mone), and saying what a pile of crap basically Yankee Candles are these days. Tunnelling, no smell etc. A few outraged Yankee fans are calling him out but others agreeing.

Not just tunnelling. The small jar candles I've had have all become useless because the wick has somehow 'drowned' in the wax pool - no amount of trimming (or not trimming) solves it.

Yes me too, the small jar candles I bought last year all came with wicks that were virtually invisible to the naked eye, absolutely useless

I've had the same problem with the small jar wicks, but only some. I've not had tunnelling but then my life's work is preventing tunnelling! When I relight the recent small jars now, however, I use scissors to cut literally 1-2mm off the tip of the wick and (I know it sounds weird) but I balance a large jar Illuma-lid on the top which helps it pool and keep burning longer. Shouldn't have to do this though. As was previously discussed, there's definitely some kind of skinny wick thing going on with those small jar sets from the TSV/AD.

I'll have to try trimming them again then - thanks for the tip. I haven't got an Illumia lid, but maybe I should try one. I got a large number of small jars before Christmas (I think it was a TSV) and the only one that didn't 'drown' was Crackling Log, which was a lovely smell. The Red Berry Wreath plus a load of others I had before (Baby Powder, Clean Cotton and several others) all just ended up like they'd gone out about 10 minutes after lighting. I was annoyed with myself because I didn't really need any more Yankee Candles anyway, but they seemed like a good deal and I was in Christmas panicking mode and buying stuff 'just in case'.

It seems to me that if candles don't burn properly then they are unfit for purpose and should be returned for a refund

Very true, although QVC will surely just argue that we aren't treating the candles right. Not sure I could face all that but I wouldn't blame anyone for doing so. If I found it a major problem (as I said, I have managed it), I would definitely have called them to argue this and pointed out that I (and "people I know" - ie the good people of st.com!) know enough about candles to know there's something wrong with these. Anyway, I cancelled my auto deliveries of the small jars. I'll keep an eye on the few I have left to use. And if the large jars in the TSV turn out to be in any way substandard, I'll definitely be calling CS!

PS I just checked the reviews of the various Yankee small jar sets and they are mostly not good, with mentions of poor burns - the only exception is the set which is all white candles and these are all older scents, from at least 2 or 3 years ago. Could it be they are cutting back with the new ones they're bringing out? On the other hand, I suppose the white, core range jars were only actually made recently too so should be suffering the same??

Rosa and QVC always seem to put the blame on the customers not doing it right!

SCW you are very very very lucky to never had a problem as so many now complain and just stopped buying Yankee.

i agree Donna & its weird cause i bought a set only the other week & they smell as fab as usual & never had any tunnling or anything so when i see people ripping it all apart im just like ive not got that issue there again i know lots of others who dont have any issues with the Q ones & im looking forward to getting these (they are a treat to my mum) so not going in to full details but i know a lot of others that i know who have gone for it will say the same

I've had loads of issues with tunnelling on my Yankee large jars-I trim the wick, burn for required time but still some just don't recover.

I've turned to Candleberry recently and had no tunnelling issues and some yummy scents!

I saw a comment earlier today quoting Ms 'I've got a pointy finger' Cleeve stating Ultrasun is available on prescription. Having a few spare minutes I found the clip where, once again, she made this claim. The post also included a screenshot referring to new NHS guidelines about items that will no longer be available because they are over the counter products. QVC was once very careful about any claims made that were even vaguely connected to medical issues, that doesn't seem to be the case now & this person seems to be allowed to say anything.

Be nice to see some hard evidence that it is prescribed on the NHS wouldn't it? Is it listed by NICE or in the British National Formulary? And if so, what actual product(s) in the range (bet it is not all of them but only specific ones, if Ultrasun is indeed listed).

And if it is prescribed, who is actually eligible for prescriptions on the NHS? I can't imagine it is available on prescription to anyone who doesn't have a serious medical condition where sunscreen has a medical benefit. In the past when I've heard the "prescribed by the NHS" message the implication was that if you worked for the council or other government body and worked outside you would get sunscreen. I can't believe that for a minute!

This NHS claim is as annoying, and in this case potentially misleading, as any of the breathless claims of this or that celebrity can't live without product X.

QVC's standards in so many aspects have clearly declined. They allow claims that wouldn't have been allowed in the past; they let presenters tout their side gigs live on the channel; they have become increasingly slipshod in what information they do provide. Certainly not the behaviour you expect of a trusted retailer!!!

Every QVC brand claim their product is the "number one best seller in Britain" and come out with a load of utter rubbish reading off ingredients, surveys etc, with absolutely no back up, no scientific facts or proof, much like the resident beauty presenter, oops sorry "expert" who's only real expertise is selling endless amounts of QVC beauty products.

Abi is always going as close to the line as she can with her marketing, trying to give her overpriced Soltan a justification for its ludicrous price point. What she'd desperately like to do is mention cancer more often, and how much her product 'protects' against it, but she can't. So she has to stick with scaring people into buying her product by insinuation, and reminding us that if we let our children/grandchildren see but a ray of sunshine without adequate 'protection', they will instantly fry and die in the blistering 'dangerous' sun. I always believe that if you have to resort to scaring people into buying your product, it's not a good product. Step up - RFI wallets.

i have had to perform surgery literally mixed with science to get my yankee candles to burn properly

I started wondering whether the answer was to buy appropriately sized wicks from a craft shop, melt the wax to remove the pre-existing wick and replace it with a correct one. But it really shouldn't be like that when I"ve paid top dollar for the candles in the first place.

You have to think it's the beginning of the end of a lucrative relationship! Other good brands out there...

I've always wondered if Prices Candles are any good. To me, Prices candles are still something you have in great quantities in a box under the sink in case there's a power cut. I think I've had the same box under the sink since the mid 70s when we actually did have power cuts! But it seems that Prices have gone upmarket and do 'smellies' now as well as your bog-standard 'household candles'.
