I mentioned the Shadazzle to Mrs Ranger yesterday and she informed me that we have been using something called 'The Pink Stuff' for quite some time. It's not a sexist thing but Mrs Ranger is chief cook and cleaner in our household-I do the decorating, household DIY, dog walking, etc. Works well for us. Anyway, this Pink Stuff can be purchased on Amazon for a total of £3.50 (inc delivery). My good lady informs me that "it does the business" and I have no reason to disagree with her. Our place is spotless. (I don't think Mrs Ranger uses a 'specialist' sponge with the Pink Stuff, but she wouldn't have paid much more than 50p if she does :mysmilie_59:)

Our place is usually tidy and clean too, we've got to this stage in our lives and survived without Shadazzle. But when Shadazzle is merely very fine grain chalk and cleaning agent it's hardly surprising is it?

That doesn't sound as exciting as 'Shadazzle' does it? The £22 Shadazzle :mysmilie_59:

I took my sink from looking like an accident in a cat food factory, having washed up a weekend's cat bowls, from being away, with simple bicarbonate of soda and white vinegar, probably costing 20p

I do remember seeing that character some time ago-think he was on Ideal World. Just like the German chap selling the Shadazzle, it's the old (contrived) eccentricity routine. I get the impression that all these 'miracle' cleaning products are massively overpriced.

The profit margins must be very generous indeed... rope.jpgequals.jpgcash.jpg

In those rare times I'd need a mild abrasive I'd use Bicarbonate of Soda too. Kim and Aggie always did, don't recall them ever using Shadazzle.

Or perhaps even Cif. Miles cheaper, been around for decades too :mysmilie_59:

there you go it still exists, I used to love Simple Green, but it was too difficult to get hold of once Q stopped (I just looked for it and actually you can buy it on line and it is v expensive) and the orange oil based wood polish too, which astonish make a version of, that is perfectly fine.

Anyone remember that shonky 661 channel ..David Ades? Can't remember the full name..it's long gone now. As bad as it was, I found that his EGR cleaner was the best ever....It cleaned EVERYTHING and I mean everything, kitchens, bathrooms, upholstery, got stains out of clothes and wasn't that overpriced either. A sad day when I ran out, a sad day indeed! Subsequently tried other cleaners including the blue one which incidentally was rubbish and haven't found anything anywhere near as good!

It was Yes661! Was he the 'No Wet Wonder Foam' man Merry?

Slightly balding, glasses? :mysmilie_59:

It certainly was, (sorry not speaking for Merry, here) tried to look for him, he has no internet presence at all, wonder if he is ok. According to one website he was the representative for EGR until last year, then he and it vanished completely. His telly channel was Price Crash I think?

He was on QVC in their early days wasn't he? I was talking about that crap No Wet Wonder Foam just the other day. They ditched loads of the 'Selly Telly Fodder' products like miracle cleaners when QVC became established, and boring, and people like him ended up on those obscure channels on Sky Digital.

But now Ideal World is becoming like a cross between Bid TV, Yes661 and QVC Circa 1995 :mysmilie_59:

De Knees says that 'Shadazzle means you can clean once and clean less often'. And Helmut says 'Shadazzle gives 10 times longer clean surface'.

So how come that Oven and Fridge are covered in 'deep grime' again? They've been 'cleaned' at least 3 times today, maybe they've changed the Oven and Fridge?

You don't think that De Knees and Helmut could be pulling a flanker do you? I'm beginning to suspect that the grime isn't really grime at all :mysmilie_59:

Miraculous isn't it?

Amazing how that Fridge, Pan and Candleabra are filthy, then clean, then filthy and then clean again.

You're right about Gravy Browning, our house is positively covered in the stuff. Your's too, I assume? :mysmilie_59:

Or maybe a sprinkling of finely ground coffee granules and then a quick spritz with an ironing spray? Either way, someone ought to tell Mr Muscle et al that they've got it all wrong. IW have conclusively proved that oven cleaners based on sodium hydroxide are entirely redundant, because people's ovens can only be soiled with water soluble dirt and thus steam cleaners and wet cloths can simply 'dissolve' all that dirt and wipe it away. Or have IW actually produced a water-based compound which can dissolve grease? Who knew!

Thanks, Ideal World, for showing us that a fundamental concept of chemistry - hydrophillic-hydrophobic interactions is, in fact, entirely wrong.

I will be completely honest and state that much of your most excellent post is more than a bit above my pay grade (I should really be considerably below minimum wage really).

But might you possibly be saying is that Shadazzle is just another example of this channel selling well overpriced tosh?

Surely the Scientifically Developed, Patented Sponges are worth £6? :mysmilie_59:

I think we like to call that an excellent and concise summary.

But he's German. Germans do things like engineering and stuff. And Audi. And Volkswagen (we'll forget about the emissions scandal just for now). And Miele. And Beckenbauer. So surely, if he's German, it can't be tosh? It must be, well, understandably why we're 14 nanoseconds into the hour and already 60% of the stock has sold out (and gone).
