The best treatment for the wound assuming it is not infected is salt water.

How could I have forgotten good old salt water?! Worked a treat for a recent sore throat and gums. It's going on my "ill" list right now (I keep tip lists on the inside of kitchen cupboards).

Hello again,

How are you doing? I was thinking about you at work today!

A soak in salt water will not harm but rubbing creams and gels like arnica into broken skin can be a problem, especially if there has been any nasty bacteria introduced with the bite. There are some very nasty bacteria in an animal's mouth, including human mouths, they breed on the teeth and tartar on gums and are particularly dangerous if the bite is in a joint. Similarly, we have bacteria on the surface of our skin. They do no harm where they are but when they get under the skin, they are dangerous, like Streptococcus for example but there are many others. Don't rub creams over the top as they can trap the bacteria beneath the skin and cause the infection to compound and spread. I hope that you have seen a medical professional but if not, please don't wait!

Inge xx
