I think the Sun woman needs to open her mind a bit to other people instead of looking at the shoes from her own selfish perspective.
Obviously she's never struggled to get shoes to fit, isn't blessed with a wide hoof, has never had to get scissors out to cut shoes to get them to fit and has never wandered around tens of shops without getting a single pair to fit - let alone a stonkingly great fashionable shoe to fit.
As for the velcro being for lazy people, she's obviously never had mobility issues which mean she can't bend to do up fiddly buckles either. :wonder:
Since the moment I was unable to have kids clark's shoes I've suffered when it comes to buying shoes. Instead of being able to wander around being spoilt for choice, I used to go shopping for shoes when I needed a pair, not when I fancied a pair - because the whole experience was mind-numbingly painful, traipsing here there and everywhere for a size 5 and a half, wide fitting.
When good ole British shoes were made and sold in this country in half sizes, it wasn't so bad, but these ruddy continental sizes and skinny fits imported from who knows where which have gradually taken over have made life a struggle for me. Size 5 was too small, 6 fell off - and NO those sodding insole grip things do not work!
I now have an arthritic knee and often I have to walk with a stick so I can't wander around the shops. The first shoe that was slagged off I actually bought on ebay and they enabled me to be a courier as I could WALK. OK they aren't a fashion statement - little ole ladies used to be dead jealous of my fabulous frumpies - but there again, little ole ladies need shoes too! Pavers caters for them without breaking the bank.
If I have one gripe, it's that WIDE fitting shoe selections are still too dull and boring - just because we have wide feet doesn't mean we always want one inch heels or less! They do my achilles tendon in, which is now playing up as a result of my arthritic knee *groan*.
Sorry for the rant, but I'm hoping Pavers sit up and take note. Their latest wide fit selection are a start, but they still leave a lot to be desired. Black and white is boring! And the shoes which are more for winter are more like men's shoes than anything - and too low. Let's have a 2" heel with the "spongefactor" please. And for high instep peeps like me, don't make the shoe go up over the foot. Cut in towards the toes on the top part of the foot, a little like the current peep-toe black and white offerings, but in a winter style (so no peep toe) and let's have some colour please!
Next winter, it would be lovely to have some ankle boots which I can do up. Stop having models who say they have wide feet when they clearly have the bones and stance of a sodding ballerina! What about us poor girls who are not blessed with tiny ankles? Debbie Pavers, feel free to invite me to one of your shops, I would love the opportunity to show you what I mean, surely I can't be that unusual!
And finally.... the last thing that pees me off (and isn't restricted to Pavers) is this "go half a size up or half a size down" business. Er DER??? Just bliddy make the things in a standard size FFS! I've long since forgotten what size I ruddy well am.
As for Julia Peasgood, it's bugging me - was she in Broookside years ago??
