I have got my nails looking good again, thanks to Nail Envy and thought I would give my RCM another go now.

I am sure someone posted the best way to combine the two but I cant remember how.....can anyone help me?

Nail Envy with RCM as normal over the top?

Or maybe it was Nail Envy sandwiched between the RCM???

Hope some clever person can remember, thank you!!

I posted some months back that Alison Young had told me (via Twitter) that you could use the Nail Envy underneath the RCM, but that it was essential that you allow it to dry thoroughly. I have done this, having allowed a few hours (for convenience, actually) between the two and thought it had no detrimental effect on the longevity of the RCM. Although, I can only really 'go' just over two weeks, since my nails grow very quickly, so the Nail Envy may affect other people's length of wear. Generally, however, I've applied without the Nail Envy since, once you have the RCM on, it won't get through to the nail anyway. Then I take a break, every few goes and have an intensive Nail Envy programme for a while. It seems to work for me. But the Nail Envy under the RCM does work!

I found that the nail envy caused the RCM to chip the couple of times I applied it first. I think I will try that combo again though as I'm having problems with the RMC and 2 nails on my dominant hand. The rest of the nails go 2 weeks without a chip

Thank you both so much for the replies.....off to see if I can remember which order to do the RCM in, I just realised I haven't used it in AGES!!

I have recently had Shallac nails applied in a salon, is 'Red carpet' the same? At least my pathetic nails have started to look mildly presentable.I am just not sure about having this treatment all the time ( both for the health of my nails & the expense!) I use nail envy but find my thumb nails tend to get get splits down the side.I go in a swimming pool quite often & don't think this is helping the cause!

Shellac is produced by CND, while RCM is produced by the same company who do the salon product Gelish. But they are essentially the same sort of product. I've used Gelish colours in my RCM lamp and using their other colours and it's been fine. When I had gel nail enhancements I had terrible trouble with my nails afterwards and, I must admit, was a bit reluctant to try anything with the word 'gel' in the name, but this is entirely different and I've had no issues. My nails do get a bit dried out during gel phases, but I make sure to use cuticle oil and hand creams and so on and, as I mentioned earlier, I give my nails a 'rest' every now and again do an intensive nail envy course, to make sure they don't suffer too much. Because mine grow quickly, it doesn't take too long for the drier bits to grow out anyway.
Right now I am on a normal polish phase on nine nails and a gel 2 base and 1 topcoat to secure a nasty crack about a quarter of an inch down. The RCM has allowed me to grow these out on previous occasions.
You just have to be sensible, remove everything very careful and never, ever pick at the polish - you will take layers of nail with you!

I actually have to file my nails now I am using RCM. Never had to do this before in my life. I am also hard on my dominant hand as I am always gardening and even wearing gloves the dirt gets in. Really pleased with RCM and I can apply the whole lot inaround 20 mins because I do 4 fingers on one hand and the thumb on the opposite hand and put the 4 fingers of the hand in the lamp and place the thumb of other hand in between 2 of the fingers. Have to stand up over the table to do this last bit.

I've stopped using RCM colours and just use the base and the top coat. Main reason is that I am short on time and the clear coats last a good 10 days and even if they chip slightly it is not visible. I can also apply coloured other nail varnish over them if I fancy a colour for a few days.

I am convinced that, when it comes to the nails, there is no substitute for a good diet which, unfortunately I do not follow. I have tried Nail Envy, Perfect Formula, and nothing works. I would love to be able to apply polish to my nails which, although are not an ideal shape, would be passable if healthy and I don't bite them. I don't think I would opt for RCM, though. I don't like the idea of all the faffing about, holding my hands under the light to set, etc. Now, if someone would invent a machine which would instantly give you great nails, I would hold them under anything. They would probably be a millionaire!

Boots have the full Sensationail kit as Offer Of The Week at the moment, reduced to £50.

BUT..........

I have been having regular IBX treatments with a manicurist and my nails are TRANSFORMED!!!

Worth seeking it out, my nails were weak and peeling (on loads of different meds) and broke and chipped and pinged off and bent.......too many problems to list.

IBX treatments have been a revelation....my one remaining weak nail should grow out over the next couple of weeks, still has the original peeling right at the very end of the nail but hopefully not for much longer!!

RCM made my nails really dry and flaky. Nail Envy and lots of oil rescued them! Plus, it was a huge faff, both applying and removing. I sold my kit on ebay. Someone had a bargain!

I love my RCM products. I very much enjoy doing my manicures and treating and painting my nails and find it very relaxing, so am not too bothered by a bit of fuss and faff. Generally I'll use it a few times and then 'rehab' with Nail Envy and ordinary polish for a few weeks (my nails are naturally flaky and dry without Nail Envy and, while I don't believe the RCM damages them much, it does make a difference to not be applying my treatments every other day) and this seems to maintain a decent quality natural nail. However, the last time I did my rehab, I used Nails Inc's new Nail Kale base coat. It restored my nails (and helped them grow) much quicker than Nail Envy. It'll be interesting to see what they will be like when this batch of RCM manicures is over.

I love Nail Envy and never thought I'd find anything as good but have been using the Nails Inc Nail Kale range and am very impressed. I've not come across IBX before. Can you tell me whether it's just an in-salon treatment?

i have poor nails due to illness and meds. i have never had nice nails. they split with me just making the bed lol..i just want to put nail polish on them that does not flake off in a day. if they looked nice i would feel better. nail envy works but i have to put it on all the time and if i miss a day the nails go downhill in hours

That must be such an annoyance! Have you considered, if it's only for a few hours or a specific event, using stick on nails? They do some very good ones nowadays. I'm not sure of the brand, but a friend of mine came round for a meal with fabulous glossy, beautifully manicure red nails and they were just stick-ons from Boots. Might be worth a try?

I think it probably is at the moment, as its relatively new....but I have a professional site that looks like it might be possible to buy from, but haven't tried it.

I have pretty good nails, helped by having a long nail bed so I don't need to grow a long free edge, but nail polish only lasts a couple of days, rarely a week. With Red Carpet (just a clear base and top coat as Iloveshopping said). It keeps the nail surface rigid and is uber-smooth which means the nail doesn't flex and allow moisture under the polish or general lifting which allows chipping. Polish on top of RCM lasts easily a week, usually I get bored and change the colour before it looks tatty.
