Ryes is saying how he has pushed the buyers to offer some candles at a cheaper price in some pressure meeting today. Now.. he may well have done that. I’m not saying he’s lying. But what I am saying is, when a channel uses lots of other tactics which are open to question in terms of their selling techniques, in the end, you don’t believe a single word they say - even if it may be the truth. That’s the damage the likes of constant ridiculous price comparisons, showing faux shock
at options they probably knew anyway, and stating stock has sold out only for it to miraculously reappear the next day does.

He said similar yesterday, said they had a high pressure meeting earlier for the show.

Might have been believeable if they hadn't left his mic on between the previous show and his show. I've always wondered why none of their shows seem to start on time, always have a few promos on a loop. Well yesterday, during those few minutes Mr Ryes was in convo with someone, only Ryes's side of the convo was heard but he was obviously going through what was on the show and the order and the amount of time being allocated to each product, he was very doubtful he could fill an hour with a William Hunt fragrance, also he didn't want a half empty bottle (which had probably been used in previous shows) etc. So from that snippet i heard i would guess the high pressure meeting is when they are a few minutes late at the start of the hour. ;)

What I would like to say to everybody on here this evening is thank you very much for all the contributions that you make to this forum. I’ve had my bad times over the last few years, and this place has been somewhere to seek sanctuary away from those sadnesses. I think there are some wonderful posters on the Forum in general, and certainly on this particular thread. I have learnt more about watches from Hammy and others, than I ever learnt in a jewellers, and certainly from a shopping channel. I do hope that this thread can keep going along similar lines throughout 2024. And I do sincerely wish you all, regardless of your views on shopping television, or regardless of your views about our views, a very peaceful and happy New Year.

Nice Andre Mush watch now… Swiss made, apparently? If Mason was doing the presentation he’d tell yer to position yourself vertically in the pubic bar, hold yer bleedin’ arm up, vertical, like, spray yourself in Gammon, and wait for a man to come up to yer and say: “What yer wearing, Mush?? And can you serve it with a fried slice, beans and chips??”

Just had this pop up in my adverts - - -

I have no interest whether or not you criticise the channel's behaviour and tactics, believe it or not. I would just love to know why you enjoy it so much. So bad it's good. Yep, I can see that. But all day, every day? For years? Are there not other things to get steamed up about?

And you're right, if I question one poster's claim that this place extols a kind of cynical, humorous satire like Have I Got News For You, I can't possibly have a sense of humour. But (again) believe it or not, I find a fragrance called Gammon pretty hilarious too!

People post their views here because we can, suggesting 'steamed up' just shows a lack of awareness in grasping things Paz.

I politely suggest you concentrate on you rather than everyone else here - its a Ideal World forum, it aint rocket science (y)

Thank you for your polite response, even if the last sentence does smack a little of passive aggression. Again, I've never used words like 'petty' or 'ridiculous'. Why put words in my mouth and then respond to those words rather than what I actually wrote? It seems, and I mean this respectfully, a little over-defensive.

Why do I bother with this forum? I look on here for occasional updates on Ideal World as I quite enjoy watching from time to time. Believe it or not, but I actually agree about the 'heavy selling' technique employed by some presenters and it contrasts with the way others present things. But there's just a wall of continual moaning page after page that is often really unfair. So again I ask, and this is a general thing, why do you bother with watching? I'm told I've had it explained to me but I see nothing that qualifies as any kind of explanation.

I wouldn't wish to impact the way people post, not that I could if I did. I just genuinely do not understand. It doesn't, and never has, changed the way any aspect of shopping telly has been run, so why? Is it masochism? Or does posting stuff like 'Oh no, another four hours of Pedro flogging walking sticks again' actually cheer people up?
Thank you for replying, my last comment wasn't intended to be passive aggressive, but just suggested an alternative reason for you being here.

I only asked your reasons for posting here because you asked us, several people gave their reasons so I was curious as to your motivation.

I wasn't intending to put specific words in your mouth like ridiculous, it only appeared that you felt this way from your posts.

We enjoy this forum, we enjoy having a good moan, its human nature! As I've said, I rarely watch more than 2 minutes at a time, but I love reading this forum (the gift that keeps on giving!). If you don't like our comments that's fine. But when you continue to post the way you do you will get a potentially sarcastic response, or ignored totally. And its unlikely we will change our view because of one person.

Thanks again for the response. Maybe there's a Facebook group (either by IW or a viewers/fan group) that may give you better updates. I'm not on Facebook so not sure personally. Pretty sure QVC has groups like this so I'm sure IW will have something similar.

Surely, by that token, I'm allowed to speak my mind too? You mention Rob Locke. Strange then when he actually took the time to post and confront those whose daily posts complain about a business he is/was part of, suddenly posters here can't wait to tell him what a great bloke he is! What might we call that if we're being polite? Hypocrisy? Psychiphancy? Cowardice? So then, if Peter Simon or Mike Mason started posting here, you'd all suddenly be their best friends too? After all, we're not allowed to slag off other posters are we?
I've personally never complained about Rob Locke, I've never seen his shows but read his comments on here and found them interesting.

I can promise you 100% that if PS or MM openly came on here I certainly wouldn't change the style of my posts. I've had suspicions over the years (Bid/Price Drop era) that presenters have been on here. And if I remember rightly someone was on here years ago who we all thought was MM (or his partner) as they were his greatest fan. They denied this but I think did claim to be connected with them. That was some years ago so my memory may sadly be playing tricks on me!

If PS or MM did openly come on here, as opposed to pretending to be a fan, I suspect the forum members would form an orderly (or disorderly queue) to say what they thought or their selling techniques.

I did the same. Quite recently I contacted the Forum people and asked them to delete my identity because I became embroiled in a similar situation. But after a couple of days, I decided that I still
had decent contributions to make, enjoyed being here overall, and decided to reapply to join. Nothing furtive or secretive in me rejoining, and I think it is pretty obvious working out my previous username from this one. I don’t think people should be forced off the forum for their views – either negative or positive.
Glad you came back because I was gonna miss all your references to things I'd forgotten like Green Shield Stamps and The People's Friend! If I hadn't spotted the author I could usually guess a post was from you.

Never gonna happen, be a no win situation for them. There is no defence for their on screen behaviour, lies, bullshit etc and they know it. Same goes for any other of the shysters. The only folks that could post here and get a polite and respectful replies are those who's behaviour on screen has been okay or at least acceptable given the ethos and policies of organisations they are/have worked for and that's not a long list.

Yeah, it's those two I have a real problem with, as well as Sally as I can't stand her shouty delivery style and of course her way of selling (I'm no medical expert but...).

Because I don't watch that often I don't really know many of the other presenters, I've spotted a couple of younger ones. I've not seen enough to criticise but conversely I wouldn't pretend to be their bestest friend if they came on here. If however they asked for honest constructive comments (as Rob Locke has done) then I may (or may not) write something polite.

But, if they continue to say that a £20 cheap and cheerful handbag should cost £6000 and that Mrs Beckham and the Princess of Wales are desperate to get their hands on one, then I'm gonna continue to take the piss.

I am not sure who Paz is or whether they have a direct link to Ideal World or any other area of shopping television. They do strike me though, as curiously defensive of the channel and the genre in general, whilst trying not to be, by regularly quoting their interest as purely a fascination of why people who are negative watch something so much that they ‘hate’. I do remember them quoting something I said about Ideal World a few weeks back and replying in words to the effect of ‘They are all laughing at you, mate’ Almost a Masonesque thing to say, and if ‘they’ was meant to be Ideal World staff, an odd thing to say or know if you had no actual link to the channel. In a sense, it doesn’t really matter who Paz is or any of us are on here. All views should be welcome regardless.
