Our Meg is the same.
The basket is sneaked in from the garage, up-ended and hidden in the ...... what are we calling it now? ..... littlest room in the house lol.
Just before take off, she is picked up, reversed into the ... do-da , lowered feet first into her basket & the door is slammed shut!
There is always complete silence on the outward journey.
A lot of lip on the homeward leg!

louis is the opposite - swears all the way and silent on the way home. i say to him 'it's ok, it's not the vet, you're going on holiday' or 'it's ok, it's only the vet'. lol. although i have found if i answer him, he's worse. i have to hide the carrier until i need it then he's put in back end first. he's then like a spider on a glass - take one paw off and another 3 latch on. when i took him to the vet at the start of this he didn't put up even the smallest fight :(

Janie I'm so glad he's home, he'll be much more relaxed and less stressed which has got to be good for his IBS and I'm sure things will get easier as you both get used to it. I'd be surprised if the tube comes out if he's sick, Katie's was about 8 inches long so was well down her windpipe, but if it did is there someone close by you could call on to help you?

Katie was so happy to be home she spent most of the first week purring non stop and wouldn't let me out of her sight, at night I had to sleep on my back because she insisted on sleeping on my chest with her head as close to my face as she could get! I had trouble sleeping not only did the purring keep me awake but her breath smelt absolutely dreadful, but it was all worth it to have her back ! :mysmilie_515:

One of the problem's of all her treatment was that she absolutely hated going to the vet's and she associated her carrier with a visit I'd have to put it in the guest bedroom days before I needed it so she'd get used to it being around and relaxed, then when I had to take her I'd just pick her up and quickly put her in it before she knew it

Keep us updated of how Louis is progressing x :mysmilie_484:[/QUOTE

good point about the stress and IBS! i do have a nice neighbour a couple doors up and a nurse next door but she's only home at weekends. the vet has told me to cut the main stitch holding the tube in if the worst happens and he has it hanging out of his mouth.

Well lack of fight clearly says how ill he was poor little devil.
Wonderful news that he eating on his own and a relief for you too.
I hope the rest of the weekend proves to be as good or even better.

We've got an old wicker carrying basket & have to line the bottom with magazines as Meg is quite convinced she can dig her way out!

Great news Janie about the negative test, fantastic that he's started eating again small steps I know but all positive. :clapping:

Because he was being sick every time he ate I expect he's apprehensive about eating at the moment but if he carries on like this they'll be able to take his feeding tube out! He's just got to get his confidence back which will come but it'll probably take a few days.

Obviously he'll be happier and more relaxed at home so hopefully this is the start of his full recovery, try not to be too anxious yourself as he will pick up on it

yes i'm really trying to keep calm, hard as it is and to ignore him rather than stand over him. i give him a head rub now and then and leave him to it to do his thing.

it's not eating per se that makes him sick, it's the pancreatitis. he didn't eat for 10 days in the local vets and was still vomiting despite antisickness injections. then he started to eat tiny amounts, came home for a few days, tube out, still eating tiny amounts, went downhill and was admitted to specialist vet. ate a bit better for a few days then stopped and hasn't eaten for a week. the specialist vet is on holiday for 2 weeks now darn it - would love to tell him louis ate a few biscuits within hours of being home. the downside is he's supposed to eat nothing but the pap i put down the tube for 4-6 months.......although he did say tempt him with anything to get him eating again, then try putting the tube feed in a dish. i have a strong suspicion he won't go anywhere near it......

we had a reasonable night thanks and we forgot about the clocks changing when we rang best friend with the morning report. hehehee. :call:

he ate 28 biscuits and a couple mouthfuls of fish for breakfast. the dtug administration went smoothly until next door's cat strolled across the garden (they're a bit werid, copy EVERY thing i do and got a cat especially to look like louis. been red rag to a bull and the cause of 7 trips to the vet and £350 in fees post fight). anyway he saw him through the window and went berserk, shot off with syringe attached. had to chase him round and we finished halfway up the stairs where he could get a good view of the garden. then he had half a feed which went well, curled up on the sofa for a while, had a wee and is now on the windowsill in the spare bedroom - jumped up on his own

Sounds like he's well on the mend and ready for a scrap with the intruder. You sound a lot more cheerful too Janie, I hope you're feeling more comfortable with the medical procedures.

thanks mam - i do feel more relaxed today. i must try and remember not to be too disappointed if he has a backward step because the vet made me very aware it will be a rocky road rather than gradual recovery.

i'm still unsure about the feeding - like now for instance, he's curled up in the bottom of the shelving unit in the wardrobe  (mama put a blankie in there and also made a space in the airing cupboard), sound asleep and content, i don't want to disturb him to mess around with his tube. i also want to see if he gets hungry and eats more for himself. so i think for the third day he won't get his full quota. i'm pretty sure the vet did tell me to leave him till about 6pm to see if he'll eat again, if he's eaten in the morning. kinda playing it by ear rather than following the instructions to the letter. hope everyone agrees that sounds ok. *worry*

I think you are doing the right thing janie.
So, he doesn't get his full quota today. He's not going to fade away.
More important is - he's got food in his tummy & was not sick.

He sounds right as rain Janie! Cwtching up in wardrobes and airing cupboards. He's one happy puss!! I agree with Minim, I would carry on how you are as he seems content and isn't being sick. It is a worry though. However, I think you're doing a sterling job ;)

From mobile, please excuse any silly errors!! :)

thanks for the vote of confidence min and cap :) i know i'm meant to be building him up to make him strong and more able to get better but i think his happiness and comfort counts for a lot - as well as my fear of him vomiting the tube up, i'm anxious to keep those drugs inside him! he's just eaten another 30 biscuits! that's 38 today and 28 overnight plus a few bites of fish :)

was funny yesterday, he broke into a short run which is what he does when he's going to be sick but he stopped, then walked up to the sofa and shredded the arm - i was so happy ;) funny how your priorites change. lol

I'm with min and cap too janie. You know him better than anyone and your instincts will help you decide what he needs and when. Sounds like one happy puss to me alright:)

hi everyone :) just wanted to let you know louis ad i are soldiering on. he ate 61 biscuits overnight (out of the 62 i put in his dish, lol) 62 = a quarter of his daily intake. since then he's had another 60 and a little fish. i rang the local vet today only to find he's on holiday as well as the specialist vet (half term these days always seems to involve fathers. unheard of in my day). i was really disappointed because i have to take louis to have the tube checked (routine) and wanted to check in with james. i asked for the second in command only to be told he'd left. eekk! anyway one of the other vets rang me back and she was very confident and reassuring that what i'm doing is ok :)

forgot to mention mama didn't get to bed till 3.30 am because louis decided he wanted to cuddle at midnight. i couldn't refuse or turf him off my lap so had to doze in the chair till he moved. not that he's spoilt you understand.......:cheeky:

Haha Janie. You're not the only one that doesn't move due to puss on lap!! We're all mad!

That all sounds fab though, all very positive and happy. He's doing so much better isn't he? You sound more relaxed too. Is your vertigo ok? It's so lovely to log on and read your good news every day :D

From mobile, please excuse any silly errors!! :)

Would never be without insurance for the furries...little bunny has just gone through £2,000 ++, must admit the insurance company was super, the money was back in my account before I'd even had to pay out the vet part on visa. :mysmilie_484:

daydreamer

yes cap, so far things have been going well, fingers and paws crossed. today's newsflash is i put a teaspoon of the special diet that goes down the tube, into a dish before i went to bed. to my amazement, when i woke up during the night, a tiny amount had gone and this morning, the dish was clean. he also ate 60 biscuits and a teaspoon of fish. when i walked into the kitchen, he followed me asking for more so despite badly wanting to give him something nice, i put another teaspoon of diet down. he only ate a couple bites but i was so excited!!

he seems to have lost his confidence - a delivery man turned up (not even for me despite having my address on it) and when he saw him through the glass door, he was very frightened and tried to hide. that was when i was giving the drugs so not exactly ideal. anyway, we got through it, i told him not to worry and he'd soon be king of the road again and since then he's been comfortably asleep in the wardrobe.
