I don't doubt she's under pressure to dish out the food, but most of it was prepared ahead and all she had to do was take it from the ovens and put it on plates. The only thing she prepared from start to finish was the focaccia. It looked very nice. I still think that the chef Theo does a better job of choosing the food to present. As you say, how the food on camera is really important. Her broccoli was very overcooked and looked awful. To be fair, that’s quite a judgy thing to do (Julia scratching her meringue), so don’t blame Gail for her comment!
I used to really like Gail - but not seen her for couple years - and think it’s quite limited what she or anyone can produce as such insane speed and on TV.
Don’t think her cooking is bad at all but she used to have a tendency to sort of slop it onto plates/dishes at end (again, speed!) which probably did it no favours!
And it’s all about how it looks on air I suppose.
You need ages to make a “proper” risotto.
Hence decorating her pavlova with unripe nectarines etc.
(Incidentally I don’t think Tesco - or any supermarket - should sell things like nectarines and apricots out of season.
They’re usually unpleasant and also can’t be “green” as must be flown in from somewhere very far flung!)
