Monsoon has been struggling for a few years now. They have closed stores, combined Accessorize and Monsoon stores where they have had both etc.....to save money.

The Monsoon store near where I live has closed down. Their stuff was frequently overpriced for what it was but their sales always did well because items were being sold at a more realistic price.

Vienna if I’m correct I think it’s you who often posts about Bon Marche- I haven’t been in one for a decade or more but was in a different town last week and popped in with your posts in mind. Very pleasantly surprised. Got a lovely linen mix dress and a top, would have bought more if the style was in different colours. A bit disappointed the summer trousers didn’t fit but I didn’t have enough time to try on all the various styles so if I’d persisted I probably would have been lucky.

Typical - they closed in my town so it’s a train and fair walk to get to this one but I’ll definitely keep it in mind.

I was the same as you LATI and never went near a Bon Marche for years. I always thought they were too old lady for me but when I remarried and moved towns and with a BM on the doorstep I popped in and same as you I was pleasantly surprised. I`ve now got quite a few items from them, mainly their linen mix tops and a couple of dresses but their trousers are rarely ever long enough for me. I usually browse their website too because my local store doesn`t have room to stock everything they sell plus you can collect bonus points and use them online too.

As a real short ass length isn’t my problem, it’s my big hips and thighs which are the problem, either I have to take the waist in or they hang down like a dirty nappy.

BonMarche summer crops are a dream because they're not too short up the calf. I've got pairs that have lasted me years that I wear every summer, and every winter I buy their excellent fleece lined tracky bottoms for walking the dog in all weathers and at £14.99 they wash and wear brilliantly.

I vaguely knew someone who worked in Monsoon she was always getting friends discounts. I never bought from her but know from others their stuff was not the best quality for the prices.

A number of years ago I bought a raincoat from BM, stylish cut, I loved it. I washed it regularly in the machine and wore it for about three years, never a break in the stitching and kept it’s shape. I’m buying their latest one and hope the quality is as good.

Unfortunately, Bon Marche is yet another retailer currently on the ropes. I've had some lovely things from them. My elderly mum was a big fan, and I used to find something for myself whenever I took her!

I got a lovely warm jacket last winter from BM (£45) about half the price of centigrade or any of the qvc offerings. Just the job for shopping trips. I hope they don't go under.

Amazing how everything on the site is postage free. How do the prices compare to store prices? Has the post been factored in or are they specials so no direct comparison able to be made?

I'm too small for giant prints and big stripes, they're too overwhelming. I also find Monsoon are for tall people, the proportions are wrong on me.

Umm, watching the premiere show tonight, am I the only one who felt a bit uncomfortable when the guest referred to the Indian ladies (photo appeared on screen) as 'artisans' ? Maybe its the cynic in me, but when we repeatedly get told how little these people are paid in producing clothes for world consumption, then I wonder how much these 'artisans' are rewarded for their efforts. just saying.
